I see Colgate being used for cleaning switches, brass items, etc. Brilliant idea for Colgate to market it's toothpaste more as a surface cleaner.

Thank You for sharing this wonderful hack ! It worked well, had to rub a bit, switchboards were too dirty. I afterwards polish it with Rubbing Alcohol for shine.

industrial thinner bottle will cost rs 60 for 500ml and will work as wonder on switches you can find it at any local paint shop just as nail paint remover tried and tested hope it can help people 👍

Best things is that you've warned people to switch off mains and not to use sprays etc and use Rubber slippers.
I used to clean them with a moist detergent powder and water after switching of mains thereafter, blow air with a cycle handpump. Wipe it dry. In Delhi as temperature in summer is very high the switch assembly used to dry within three hours. This I used to do when I hired a new appartment. As long as I lived they never became dirty.
2 good information i was searching from long time
mix 50-50% vinegar and water, turn off main fuse and clean with this solution in a cloth then dry it with a dry cloth. no need to create coalgate mess.

Why to use Colgate paste. You can use CTC spray which are meant to clean electrical items or Thinner . That gives even cleaner results .

Easy and effective method .I will try.
Simply use mr. muscle or lyzol spray n clean with dry cloth after 5 mins;
while switching off main switch.
Then dry with hair dryer n its done

Toothpaste is an abrassive, you shouldn't use that to clean grease and dirt from hands touching the switches, it's much better if you just use rubbing alcohol or other solvent as it dissolves the grease and cleans easier (and also desinfects)

The simplest way is to use thinner used in paints, available at paint shops for ₹30.00 effortlessly.

I thought I was d only 1 who likes to clean switch board 🤣😂 I just use normal soapy damp cloth to clean n it cleans well. However this kind of board needs a lot of work 🤣😂 U did a good Job 👍

Good suggestion. However, a still better suggestion (in my view) is (i) after switching of the Mains, pick up a small piece of discarded cloth, or a 'banyaan' ie vest, wrap it around over your index finger, just one fold is enough. (ii) Take your both soap, wet it with little water and take a little soap over that index finger by rubbing it on the soap cake. (iii) Gently rub it over dirty switches , (iv) The dirt will go in tn no time , leaving the switches bright and shining. It is a much faster process. Regards.

Though its nice but its still wrong. Bcoz more paste will go inside switches & clogs them. Again the paste capture dirt-dust & impaired switch function, mechanical action💡👍

I appreciate this tip but it takes time and elbow grease too. I use nail polish remover/acetone or petrol to wipe the switch boards or any greasy surface like kitchen shelf. Petrol or nail polish remover dries off so not to worry about current.
using nail polish remover/acetone will instantly clean BUT will also take away the clearcoat sprayed over the plastic and then after drying will loose the shine your switchboard will get dirtier / yellow faster and bad. use Isopropyl alcohol rather than nail polish remover or acetone !!!
