wow, really cool video. Its amazing to me how many are down there. It doesn't look like they have too much to defend themselves with and they seem to think that they do. I guess they are pretty armored though.
Hi, could you please tell me the depth of the water in this video? Because I'm doing a research on whether the king crab can survive in twenty or thirty meters undersea. Thank you so much for your help.
As a diving FANatic (hehe), I estimate that each cooked leg would cost about $250 between the SWEET diving equipment and the license. But I WANT to do it!!. What time of year is the season?.
I think this video was taken in February, its usually open Jan. 1st but we don't dive for them much past Feb since they molt and finding one that hasn't gets a bit tough. You notice I pinch the legs on a few in the video, once they molt they don't have any meat in them.
+alaskadiver1 "Once they molt they dont have any meat in them" Why is that?. Doesnt sound logical from a biological perspective. But I believe you, otherwise why do it?. What equipment do you use?: drysuit, regulator, etc.? I have enough stuff to outfit 3 SEAL teams!.
TEL it's similar to rock lobsters, crayfish and other crabs where they cannot take them if they have a black spot on their anus meaning theyre pregnant. It's so the species can repopulate itself.
Usually a permit and a fishing license. Depending on the limit at the time, usually we are only allowed to keep one male at a certain size. We pick several, keep the biggest and put the rest back.
You can only keep 1? That sucks man. Can you take as many female as you want? Also can you do this with snow crabs and also can you make a living with this
Jango Fett depends on the regulation for the year. Most years we don’t get to keep any, commercial fishing has depleted the population so we are at the mercy of fish and game year to year. We are never allowed to keep females and not sure about snow crab, I never grab those. There are lots of ways to make a small living diving in Alaska but catching crab isn’t one of them. They only come in shallow waters in winter time, mostly they are in 200+ ft of water.
Looks like kidnapping Crabs
I think it was about 80 ft.
where do i sign up for this type of job?
Should show you cooking and eating👍👍👍

Don't really remember exactly but most likely less than 90 ft.Crabs are very shallow that time of year.
Damn alaska locals are fucking stoked! Im jealous!
I'm jealous, I live in Seward and dive in Resurrection bay. We don't have King crab in the bay like that :( Nice visibility too.
Great footage guys. Wow! I’d like to take up diving.
Outstanding video. Thanks for telling me about it.

TEL it molted/no meat
Ummm....last one looked like a Female. If so, bad move. Did you throw it back?
Dayum
Do you need any sort of license to do this?
Usually a permit and a fishing license. Depending on the limit at the time, usually we are only allowed to keep one male at a certain size. We pick several, keep the biggest and put the rest back.
@@alaskadiver1 thanks for the insight!
