    Higher inductance on the output inductor seems fine but it can make the power supply "sluggish", meaning the feedback loop is slowed down and the output voltage may struggle to ramp up.

    • @DiodeGoneWild
      @DiodeGoneWild  2 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      You're right, if the inductance is way too high, the responses to sudden load changes are slower. But it still could be mitigated by a suitable PID regulation in the feedback.

    Recently I've bought a 3d printer from a known china brand. The fan failed after a month. I've decided to figure out why. Find the driving IC. It was rated up to 18V (absolute maximum rating). That fan was a 24V fan.
    My new fan is the exact same thing, but I've lowered the pwn to hopefully have it last longer...
    When I've discovered why the fan failed i was literally out of mind.

    Nice test and autopsy. Its a shame the chinese tend to cheat somehow every time, if its just used parts or fans that are overdriven at 200% or what ever. At least it sometimes works for a more or less short period of time. Yes, try to figure out why the bad gate signal happens. I would guess the fan is also re-used from some scrap part and probably needs lubrication - thats most likely the reason for the bad sound.

    I wonder Any advantage between forward converter single switch and two switch ? Recently i'm thinking to design a forward converter for 750W and 1500W and maybe 3000W by using the common MOSFET 20N60 or IGBT FGA25N120 i have . For single switch the transistor need to withstand twice of B+ voltage and need additional coil to reset the core, for 2 switch since both transistor conduct , the conduction loss will be twice? since the voltage split into 2 transistor so the switching loss will be half in each of transistor? Forward converter transformer size is about 4 times larger then half/full bridge topology.. When operate at higher switching frequency such as 10Khz and above in IGBT switching loss will be major loss in total.
    In malaysia our main is 230VAC which after rectifier about 320VDC , in single switch forward converter the Vds or Vce need to able to withstand twice of B+ which require 640V and above and 20N60 is unable to use for single switch ,so i have to use FGA25N120 which is 1200V . for IGBT it suffer for switching loss especially switch above 40Khz? by using the datasheets curve IC versus switching loss and IC assume 10A the Switching loss about 2.1mJ when switch 40Khz the switching loss about 84W and 10A with Vcesat 2V conduction loss will be almost 104W . When i have time i will try build and try to load and see how it work.
    I saw your video 600W and 1000W (from autospy your video) both CCA wire in 600W and copper in 1000W both operate at 12A per mm2 density.. for CCA version it fail after 1hours , I really curious for Copper with 12A per mm2 current density will it last? Seen like most of china SMPS they are design in 12A per mm2 , i have try to find any experiment about 12A per mm2 in SMPS power supply how reliable they are maybe need to operate with good air flow? typical low frequency transformer are using 3A per mm2 due to the wire is alot more turn and recently i bought the wire from local electric shop they the wire are rate for 6A per mm2 which use for house wiring.. such as 10mm2 wire they told me can use up to 60A.
    I bought some transistor from china, there is some fake one, i open up the transistor and diode , i found that a correct size of transistor or IGBT or MOSFET is about 1A per mm2 and for diode is about 2-3A per mm2. i can't find any information about transistor die size versus current.. that just base on my experience after break many of them.

      Grounding the negative output to earth shorts any common-mode noise to earth. The whole circuit powered by the secondary side acts as an unbalanced antenna to radiate common-mode voltage. So grounding can improve EMC a lot.
      It's similar on the input side: Earth provides a nice way to get rid of parts of the HF noise generated by the supply. Some people claim (I didn't check references) that HF emission limits are specified "per conductor" in some regulations. Distributing HF emission over three conductors (live, neutral, earth) instead of just two thus allows for higher total emission to be in spec.

    Whoever designed this PS, was a complete noob in thermal design and pcb layout.
    I wouldn't pay $1 for a junk like this.
