    Not sure if you already figured this out or if someone already mentioned this, but in Artrage you can use whatever brush size you want. Just increase it using the SHIFT key or double click on the brush size in the down left of the brush panel and type a higher number than 100.
    The 100% cap through the drag option of the panel is based on an internal algorithm that defines what is the largest tool your system can support well (without lag). So the "100%" will be different in every machine (or so I've heard)

      Hi DiabolusBR, Thanks for the tip. I was aware of this, unfortunately on my Ipad Pro the brush size always defaults to 100% when typing in a value

    The ArtRage painting looks better to me. More dynamic.

    Steve. I am so glad you finally did this. It reassured me that my personal choice (goto) for digital painting is ArtRage. I have watched a bunch of artist using Procreate, and there are some really talented folks out there. I say that if you want a more water color or marker type look, then Procreate. Even your Procreate comparison here, the product just seems blurry. But you are correct in that ArtRage has no competition in a real oil paint look. Comment below from "Marshall Harrison", is true to your audience. I love taking the iPad for sketching, because of the long life of the battery and the FUN of the iPad. I would use Procreate if I were making buttons, posters, and xmas cards. But when I am working a serious paint look type peace which I intend to hang on my walls, I fall upon ArtRage. I would love to see another comparison. I am struggling with getting drawing sizes to print properly for framing. Please help. Printing for a picture frame seems the most difficult. I have no issues with printing on canvas.

      Hi Mity, I'm glad you liked the review. I think the secret to any app is to find out how it works best for you. Once that's sorted you are halfway there. It's all very subjective of course and people will come up with different answers and that's fine

    One advantage for ArtRage is that there is a desktop version while Procreate is limited to the iPad. It helps especially for us newbies to not have to switch interfaces when moving to the desktop. Still, I seem to favor Procreate. Great comparison. Keep up the good work.

    Steve, when you create a new canvas in ArtRage on the iPad you can turn on record script file and play it abc on the computer version.

    • @SteveElliottArt
      @SteveElliottArt  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Warhamster, you can indeed. I'm sure I have a video uploaded on that topic. To be honest, I always record the script when painting on the ipad, but never get round to playing it back on the PC

      Hi Ray, you should give the thick paint a go, it's a very different painting experience

  • @patriciacoveney1

    Hi Steve thanks for this, I have both apps and and I do think that’s the best way to go.. However if I could only have one it would be Procreate. I get very frustrated with the iPad version of Art Rage not allowing you to get a big size canvas and a big size brush and also find the lack of simple sliders makes quickly changing brush size difficult. Please, Art Rage developers update the iPad version. I also think it is worth pointing out that although the Nikko rull brush in Procreate has produced a very delicate painting in this comparison, there is a stable of painterly brushes in Procreate which would have given a nearer approximation to ArtRages oil. Another app which also gives thick paint is Art Set Pro, which is very similar to a real painting experience but is feature light. Especially entertaining for children I would think.( note there are several versions of art set, the latest I believe is Art Set 4 which has many features but is a completely different style of painting , so be careful which of the many versions you choose). Thank you re-visiting this old chestnut of a question and giving such useful advise.

      Hi Patricia, I agree with all your points on Artrage, the interface is feeling a little dated and clunky compared to other ipad apps. Hopefully they will address this in the future. I chose the Nikko Rull brush because it is so different to a thing in Artrage. I wanted to show the different end of the spectrum to both of the apps. The max size of brushes in Artrage is a real issue. If you have the pc version you can always record a script while painting then replay it at a larger scale on the desktop. I have done this myself, but to be honest it's all a bit of a pain

    I have only used Artrage on pc monitor, tried artrage mobile version but just not good. As for others Im too old in the tooth to make changes so prefer to stay with what I know with artrage, and find my work changes with use and more knowledge. I am still confused about canvas sizes and have now scaled down my canvas sizes. Steves vids are always informative. Well done Steve and thanks .

    Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I personally think your Art Rage painting looks so much better than the Procreate. If you were to compare Art Rage for the PC to Procreate for the Apple how would that change your conclusion?

    • @SteveElliottArt
      @SteveElliottArt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Adam, Artrage for the pc is a totally different beast compared to the iPad version. I would have had a very different painting to compare. Who knows which one I would have preferred!!

    I'm trying my second painting in artrage.....I didn't have lag on the first painting....im getting a half inch lag from tip of pencil to paint. What happened? I even tried Uninstaller and reinstalling. I don't understand why this is happening

    • @SteveElliottArt
      @SteveElliottArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi poocky100, this size of your canvas could cause lag. I wouldn’t go larger than 4000 pix x 4000 pix

    • @poocky100
      @poocky100 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SteveElliottArt ty Steve but I was using 3000 x 3000. But you know what? I spoke with artrage customer service and they told me that the lag is not actually lag. It's normal because there's so much to calculate the app has to wait till you paint ahead a half centimeter. It's not like procreate. And I watched videos of people using it and it's the same as mine. Lol. I just freaked out for nothing.

    Artstudio Pro on the IPad Krita on the PC because of their adaptability and of course Tayasui Sketches. And...just get both and use your favorite features of each.

      Hi Richard, I've done a comparison video of Procreate with Artstudio Pro. In-fact I've just finished a new video painting in Artstudio Pro using the Borodante brush, coming soon. It's been a while since I've used Krita so perhaps I should be looking at that again

    • @richardhaas1989

      I guess I’m just drawn to art studio pro because it thinks the way I think. Also I’m still doing a lot of photographic work so it’s nice to have a program I can do both. And Steve you’re the one who got me started on Artstudio Pro which I have to thank you for so thank you!

      Hi A2Z, I agree totally, but this channel is all about painting in a traditional manner, how to create a digital painting that looks as close as it can to being painted with traditional paint

    • @alekjwrgnwekfgn

      Steve Elliott cool. I’m kinda interested in having a traditional painted look in animations and games. Cartoon Animator 4 shows at a hobbyist level what can be done to animate anything. Definitely any PSD layer can be turned into an mesh and animated- checkout Creature 2D, you could definitely animate your traditional paintings.

    Too bad there's no procreate in android, but I got Artrage for free in my Smsung Galaxy Tab A with S-Pen, the oil paint is indeed great, but the pencil brush is somewhat very odd, and I find its very hard yo use.
