    Biffa: Violates his own rules of traffic by not having enough ways in or out of a section of the city.
    Also Biffa: Considers destroying that section with meteors, instead of adding an additional entrance/exit.

      If he had added another highway exit it could have been too much near the one he already has or he had to buy another square, and I am not sure that he could have done that without waiting to grow over 15/18k of population

    There are underground metro stations on the workshop with 0 noise. Some say that’s cheating but it’s super unrealistic to say no one would want to live next to a metro station. Some of the highest rental property values are next to them because of the convenience so… take that C:S

    • @サッティクサルカル
      @サッティクサルカル 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      No actually people generally don't like to stay near metro stations but yeah those r elevated. Underground metro stations don't actually have much noise which comes to the surface.
      But yeah elevated metro stations and at grade ones do have a lot of noise pollution and people tend to not live close by. The rental value also makes it kinda unaffordable for residential zoning and so you'll mostly find high density commercial and stuff near metro stations.

      If nobody wants to live near a metro station and it raises property values so that only businesses are nearby... who the Sam Hill is riding the train? I live in a suburb with an above-ground metro station nearby. Is there some noise? Yes, but it is absolutely a feature that makes more people want to move to this neighborhood and aside from a corner shop it is all residential all the time (to the point that it's actually a hassle to get to the nearest grocery store.) Crime isn't a big issue, it's well lit and we have a good PD. Oppertunists go for the easy target and the dingy, less used stations elsewhere absolutely qualify. Some suburbs only have outbound in the morning and inbound on the evening, and that's going to ensure that only the more affulent people with regular 9-5 hours are coming home in small numbers later in the evening. Way more dangerous than a busy train. C:S seems to go too hard IMO with how powerful the "sick from noise" is for these stations compared to real life... but hey, it's a video game and it is going to do simplified things. As the risk of mugging goes down because people aren't alone in the station the noise of large crowds and the chance of communicable disease goes up.

    In the U.S. we have loads of big box stores such as Wal-Mart, Target, Home Depot, Best Buy, etc, and they all have large parking lots. Sometimes you would see several in a row too or maybe one with a strip center on one or both sides. Anyway, I think it would be a unique challenge for you to see if you can do that. It's something I haven't seen any other youtubers do. I always add them along with other American restaurants and stores into my cities, otherwise it's just unrecognizable.

    • @RebelPhoenix13
      @RebelPhoenix13 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I came to say the same thing. If Biffa just disconnected the road closest to the 🚦, it would allow the cars to stack up further until their chance to get on the main road. I feel Biffa’s downfall is that sometimes, because he is the creator, he is too close to the issue and misses the simple solution. (I hope that doesn’t sound disrespectful)

  • @jimwanshue2376

    Sever the connections for the first couple local streets into the collector, to create a longer block leading into the main arterial. That might give more room for traffic to stack up for the traffic signal, and back up less into the neighborhood.

    They put three roundabouts in the small town I'm from in North Carolina. They are not common around here. Once they were finished we had so many people not using them right. One elderly woman kept going in It the wrong direction. She kept treating it like a regular junction.

  • @matovic27

    You could just detach the small roads close to the busy intersections to give more space for everyone trying to get through. Just end the street in a stub to keep the zoning. Hope this helps!

  • @OnTheNerdySide
    @OnTheNerdySide 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I know you don't want too many junctions on that main road coming onto the city, but I'm wondering if you haven't gone a bit too far in some places. It seems like adding a few other ways to get in and out of those big residential areas would help. I'd consider adding another road from your industry area road to the first residential area closer to the roundabout. That might bring more people that direction instead of down the main road. You seemed to have solved it temporarily with some timed traffic lights, but in the long run, something else may need to be done. And eventually, some of that will be solved by another road along the railroad tracks that connects to the highway and brings people in from another direction.

    The problem with saying that you have a USA themed city is that the USA has a ton of different regions that are quite different from each other, to the extent that that some regions feel very foreign to people from others. If the city is named after the state, you are pretty stuck with the deep south, but if it is named after the river, it could be in the Midwest as well. Neither of those regions is known for public transportation, although a few of the very biggest cities there do have some.

    • @StarShadowPrimal
      @StarShadowPrimal 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines That's fair. I'm just trying to provide some context as someone from the US. This city does actually make me think a bit of some of the newer communities in the area where I grew up. The downtown areas of 'relatively' older cities like Pittsburgh are smashed into small areas and have little room for new roads, so you end up with very odd traffic patterns and block shapes (4 consecutive right turns might not get you back where you started). When larger businesses like Amazon or Tik Tok put regional HQs or distribution centers in now, you end up with rapidly growing semi-suburban regions outside of the bigger city (in the Pittsburgh area, I think of Cranberry Township). These newer areas really do try to put effort into intelligent planning, so while they might not have their own subway system, they would if they could afford it. They are far likelier than other areas to be willing to use traffic circles and whatever else is most efficient. They also seem to attract STEM schools, commercial, and service industries.

    I think the biggest issues with that "main road" is that there are only two points of connectivity. If you add another way in from the main road to the middle up towards the park I think that would solve a lot of it. If you look at the traffic patterns it would be interesting to see how many people are coming into the area on the ends and then making an immediate turn to go to the middle. We just don't have any connectivity in the middle from the main road. Only the ends. So EVERYTHING is funneled there. Even if it was a one way in it would elevate some of the traffic flow.

    Just delete the two lane road directly opposite the main road, so there isn’t a junction right off of the main road. You’ll end up with enough room for people to queue for the next junction up the road and for the main road junction without blocking the box, plus you can fit in more houses or businesses in the space where the road used to be- or hell, make it a pedestrian path!

    Have you noticed that you can turn on "Allow Right Turn at Red Lights" in Traffic Manager's Options? It's a thing in America that means traffic turning right can ignore a red light and would make it closer to real life traffic rules. That would at least help the traffic line at 22:32. Also, Auto-Dedicated Turning Lanes is a thing :D

    • @davidroddini1512
      @davidroddini1512 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, that would make it more realistic. Many places in the U.S. allow right hand turns on red unless there is more than one right turn lane (in which case only the curb lane can turn on red) or unless the particular intersection has a sign stating otherwise.

    We start with great news today as the city is finally named Missisipatea. This will make things much easier for intercity post , We at City News will be keeping our name so don't worry about that folks.
    The much anticipated mertro system began construction with statiions at the Brook Heights shoping district, Cret Square and Spring Hills. The location of the station in Spring Hills has raised many an eyebrow, as it is directly behind the elder care facilty the was relocated several weekes ago right after its intital construction. That not all as the tram tracks have been redicected to loop around the facility. What grudge does Mayor Biffa hold against the residents of this facility?
    Despite the addition of the metro and the mayors commitment to walkability inter-city traffic remains abyssmal with tail backs for miles. A new bridge has been construsted in a desparete bid to resolve the situation. The main road has also been widened remomovng planters and parking in order to improve traffic flow. These fixes seem to be working for now but will they hold up as Missisipatea continues to grow.
    New offices, parks and trees are sprouting all across the city, but they may soon dry up as a lack of water once again becomes an issue within the city. With both sewage and fresh water facilities struggleing to manage, it is a advised that all citizens keep a stock of bottled water on hand at all times.
    The possition of suggestion manager at the Mayors ofice has been filled by Hugo. They say they "have no idea, if they will ever be able to processes all of the suggestions, but are willing to do their best" . We wish all the best for Hugo and a out dear readers here at City News and look forwards to seeing yoou all in the next issue.

    I agree with the previous mentions of removing the connections of the "problem road".
    I would add:
    1. There are no cut-throughs between the main and problem road, even next to the metro station.
    2. The problem road is busy because some shops are facing the road instead of the main street. That is causing more traffic on a road not built for it.
    Please don't be offended. I love this series! You and City Planner are my favourite TH-camrs.

  • @yeedog
    @yeedog 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi Biffa. I don't mean to be too critical but this is suppose to be an American / USA Style build, but this doesn't really remind me of the USA at all.
    The suburbs wouldn't really be that close to High Density housing. There would be more office parks, shopping plazas and so forth in the suburbs. There may be downtown business districts with shops and office space in a given area, but that's about it.
    There would unlikely be as much public transportation that you are putting in. Bus service would be bringing people to specific shopping areas vs school bus services that would be around neighborhoods and bringing kids to school.
    There definitely wouldn't be a metro in the suburbs as that's something for a large downtown area like New York City. A suburb may have a commuter rail that has 1 stop dedicated for the large suburb to bring people to downtown offices and business areas in a New York City.
    Trams are just not common at all in the USA as it's mostly car centric in the suburbs. Though they do exists in a place like San Francisco but they are called cable cars.
    Also some assets like the old brick factories and old brick houses you use in your British City build could be used in here if you were creating an older city like Boston. Lots of old areas with factories look like this and housing for people who worked in the factories looked similar. Search for US Mill Buildings if you want to see areas that look like this, they are usually always around rivers because of commerce back in the 1800's
    If are you looking for an accurate USA build it may behoove you to go on Googles maps and look at some cities and their associated suburbs outside of the city. I
    Just some thoughts, obviously it's your city and should do what you find fun.

      The only issues with this solution is you would still have cars wanting to make a left across traffic which would slow the cars getting out onto the main road. I think the best notion would be to disconnect the first road off the main road. That would allow cars to queue back without interruption and get out faster when the lights change.
