  • Vibrato Lesson for Classical Guitar - In this video I cover five topics: how to play vibrato, musical context (when and how to use it), using vibrato to relax the left hand, and intonation or tuning problems. Vibrato is a great way to increase your musical expression and is used to great success by other string players. Listen to lots of music from various eras to hear how singers and string players use vibrato. Also, when playing your pieces, orchestrate the music by imagining the voices to be other instruments. For example, maybe your bass line sounds like a cello. I’ve found vibrato to be an excellent aid to relaxing the left hand for students who keep a very tense and static left hand. It really forces the hand to loosen up.

Back in my high school days I learned the basics of classical guitar and enjoyed a lot. The time passed and nowadays I play rock/metal styles mostly as a hobby but sometimes I just want to practice those classical lessons and every time I just got amazed by how good those techniques sounds in modern genres.
I came for a refresh lesson in vibrato and ended up with this awesome channel.
Thanks for all the effort and the lessons.

Even as a more advanced guitarist I find your video's very useful.
The passionate and yet measured way you talk about music certainly helps and is a real joy to listen to.
    Thanks.

7:39 that would be very awesome in the right context, imo.

Coming from a violin background, and knowing the complexities in that context, I never thought it would be possible/practical with a fretted instrument. I was very pleasantly surprised! It can really add dimension to some of my favorite pieces.

Yes, it does seem to work well, it's a bit more subtle in pitch variation but certain there as an expressive effect.

Thank you so much sir ! My mistake is that i was bending the string left and right, instead of tilting my finger up and down...

Classical Guitar and vibrato cannot live without each other. Try playing Concierto de Aranjuez without vibrato, it’s impossible.

Can you do some classical Filipino music? Music arranged by Jose Valdez is often very beautiful!

Beautiful vibrato! But you built it up by using your fore arm and with a kind of fixed wrist.
That all with a relaxed movement of your arm. The "rolling" fingertip is only an effect and
not the cause of making a good vibrato.
