I was trying to work out why the song sounded so odd, so I listened to the police version again. It's Sting's accent. The Englishman in New York became an American.

How do you play like Copeland asked a young man at a clinic ... the guest answer .. "well you first FORGET ALL about drumming" Copeland can not explain Copeland . In fact he uses terminologies that are foreign to standard music description . Stewart claims HIS secret is (he says) "I play IN FRONT of the music . So if you translate that he claims he does not play a typical backbeat or even on-beat he plays ahead of the melody . if you listen carefully he IS but a great deal if missing blurs that cross-beat or hyperbeat . BUT watch Stewart LIVE. He is DRIVING the song not backing the song.According to him is a foreign ruthm similar to Ragae and other caribbean grooves . BUT Mr. Stewart never knew he was doing it and that is a credit to his band mates ...... who ARE fucking amazing
Adrian did a fabulous job channeling his inner Stewart Copeland here.. I know no one could come close to Stewart himself but I think even Adrian knew he pulled it off..
