  • In this week’s episode of MasterTalk, I’m going to teach you 3 easy ways to WOW your audience as soon as your start. Follow me on Instagram: @masteryourtalk
Obviously, as you probably guessed, there’s no right way to start every kind of presentation since an introduction that applies in 1 context won’t necessarily apply in another, so take my examples as inspiration and feel free to comment below if you’re looking for specific ideas for intros. Now, let's dive into how to start a presentation.
    1. Complement your audience/key decision makers (1:07).
I always like to start client presentations at work (or back when I did case competitions) by saying something very specific about the company that showcases that I understand their business and touches their hearts.
So, instead of saying Hi, board of directors of McDonalds, I would say something like, ever since I was kid, I still remember forcing my mom to stay at a local Mcd’s so I could keep playing in the Kid’s area, in the same way, Mcd’s has marked a generation of loyal customers that have fond childhood memories of their time at the restaurant.
You could start with 1 word that you feel describes the business or the topic well.
    Iconic.
In any country you go around the world, you can recognize the golden arches that exemplifies a long-lasting brand like McDonalds. This way, you'll better understand how to start a presentation.
    2. In a world that’s ever changing, some things never change (2:46).
The best thing about this introduction is that there's always something that's changing and aspects of that change that remain timeless which means you can apply this type of introduction to almost anything at all.
In the example with charity:water, I explain the CEO's journey, Scott Harrison, from the day he started the organization to the powerhouse it has become today and what made him successful whether it was the aspects that he kept innovating upon to the timeless values, culture and mission that's always remained the same.
Once you really push the details of your story, you're slowly convincing your audience that what you have to say matters to them and they start to believe that you've been with them since Day 1. Now, your focus will be on mastering how to start a presentation like this one.
    3. Everything starts with an idea (4:48).
I love this introduction because everything pretty much starts with an idea. A company, an organization, a movement, a mission, a research paper - it all stems from an idea and by leveraging this, you can then use it to make any presentation that much more powerful.
Using charity:water once again in this example, I talk about the idea that the founder (Scott) had to start an organization to help the world gain access to clean drinking water. Playing off that idea, I explain the movement that he created from that idea.
You can use this powerfully for any type of situation or project you're working on for maximum effect. Now, with these tips, you'll know how to start a presentation like this one and give amazing speeches.

Sounds like ass kissing. But I get it. Complimenting others to draw them in. I come from a people with a warrior mentality, we do not believe in this. But I can see its importance in turning a foe into an ally.

Pick the way that works for you, no right answer - just giving different ideas.
