I remember my lola (grandma) in her. She's also a public school teacher. Her students love her that even after graduating, they still kept on visiting her at home.

My mother was a public teacher for more or less than 37 years. She really touched a lot of lives. It was evident when batches of them helped shoulder her medical expenses when they found out she was very sick (they found out late, unfortunately) and the money still kept coming in, at least, months after she passed away--helped me pay for her funeral and stuff. There were so many of them during her wake and a lot had stories to share about her being their teacher-friend-confidant-savior...It was overwhelming.

Mandatory retirement is for those working in the government. At a certain age, one has to retire but they will receive a bunch of retirement benefits. Kust like my dad who is a retired military. He is receiving 45k pesos a month as pension. But they can get hired and work in private companies.

My mother was just like her, except she didn't have to travel for 4 hours. I miss my mother...

Mandatory for Public (Government) Service, she worked as a public school teacher. If she want to still work, she can apply on other private school or companies. But she will be given the retirement benefits for her service.

Public School teachers are given good benefits here compared to those who teach in private schools. They're given one-range salary raise upon retirement and lump-sum retirement pay equivalent to their higher range salary and monthly salary for the last 3 years. Plus the monthly pension which is about 90% of their retiring monthly salary.

I live in Makati City, and she teaches in Makati High School. In our city, i dont know about the other cities but aside from the pension benefits they get from the national government, our city gives senior citizens so much benefits like, all senior citizens get a free cake on their birthday, they get healthcard specifically for them aside from the yellowcard for Makati residents. They also can watch a movie in cinemas for free just present their senior citizen card.
    :)
I don't know if she lives in Makati or probably just works here but if ever she is a Makati resident, she'll get many benefits from the city government.

watching this again and again. mandatory retirement is given at age 65 in the philippines so they enjoy their golden years. however some of them have second careers.

Mandatory means, sadly, mandatory. Thankfully, there are some businesses that still employ people beyond the retiring age. Yes, some are still physically and mentally fit individuals who, despite age, are still productive individuals of society. Mabuhay kayo!

Mandatory retirement age for public schools are to give way for new teachers. In philippines, courses like education and nursing are very much sought of that people end up not working for the profession they studied for or just end up jobless because there are only limited hospitals and schools in which they can be employed..
Government owned institutions are required to lay off their aging population to give way for this new people so that it would prevent those new generation to prevent unemployment; the seniors will still get their benefits though and most of them end up going to private sectors as consultants and/or someone in the managerial position.

Mandatory retirement was implemented because also to let them enjoy the fruits of their years of labor. Also, to let the younger ones to have the priviledge to have a career experience just as what the seniors have in their younger career years.

Eligibility for retirement here in the Philippines is at age 60 but once you have attained the age of 65, you have to retire already. No more way for you to extend your tenure as an employee. You will be paid pension by the government for the rest of your life and it is then up to you to do other things to have an additional income on top of your Social Security pay.

The reason I'm here in USA because of mandatory retirement In Philippines. Lots of Filipino hates the mandatory. My mom serve the old American Naval base in Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority in Olongapo City Philippines for 30 years. Since the American left in 1992 the Philippine government change everything especially retirement. As far as I know Mandatory retirement in Philippines is 55 years old. There's some company 60 years old.

With all government workers there is a mandatory retirement age which is 65. After that you are dropped from the rolls and given your retirement benefits and all other privileges you earned. You can still work though not as permanent but as temporary employees only.

Hi angel, mandatory retirement here in the Philippines means you cannot work anymore it's the end of your working life, 65 also is our retirement age but sadly we cannot apply to any work even if we want to or continue working in our job.

Mandatory Retirement is only for non elected and non appointed Government workers. Her being a public school (government) teacher the Mandatory Retirement law applies to her sadly. However Government workers get better benefits than 80% of the retired population.

niclna , call centers don't discriminate applicants in terms of age so long as they find you are capable of doing the job for them, they'll hire you. Your conclusion is absurd.

    • @karlmarco3928
      @karlmarco3928 6 ปีที่แล้ว

niclna...do I need to show you proof. You said, once people reached the mandatory retirement age no one will hire them anymore. That's a futile conclusion, I myself is working in the BPO world, I have officemates who are already more than 60 years old. So I am the living proof that you need because I have first hand experience working with these people who already retired from their previous job and they are still working right after they retired.

I'm sorry Joe. I seen that video but don't feel very comfortable reacting to it. I feel it maybe in poor taste if we promote it because it involves so many real life elements and we are not familiar enough with the context to do poor Catie's memory justice. Us not knowing anything before might come off as disrespectful to her family. I know you have been asking for it for a while but I don't think it would be a good idea for us to do that.
