Except even Tarja doesn't specialize in opera. Classical singing, yes, but opera is specific type of classical singing. Tarja's speciality is/was church music. She'd be weak to mediocre as an opera singer.

Actually Tarja is one of the most mediocre and definately the most boring i´ve ever heard. Before they found Anette to replace Tarja, I dreamed that Floor would be the new lead singer. I never liked Anette as a fit for Nightwish, but I'm so glad that my dream came true and Floor has KILLED IT as the new lead singer of Nightwish! What a perfect fit. She can hit the classical notes AND brings her own style to the band. I will always love Tarja, but Floor is a different type of perfection ♡

To be honest. I'm a Floor Jansen fan, but they both ( Tarja and Floor) reach not the performance of the original soundtrack. You need a lighter soprano voice to match the original. Sorry. I believe, however, that Floor has now made more progress with her voice as she sings at Nightwish, and could make it sound a lot better.
Michael Steel I agree it isn’t a perfect match to the London Original versions. However, Floor’s voice is needed if you lay the song it over metal music replays, lighter soprano is lost in heavier music usually or is hard to highlight without heavy mic volume. Their singing style requires less mic intervention too
Marco's voice really makes this song great. Although I prefer Floor's singing I like Tarja's version better. This one seems to drag with no power (only when Marcos belts out).

No guys, Tarja didn't hit the right note either. She hit Eb6, original note should be E6 or smthg. To be honest, I don't like these versions too much, song is written for lighter, slighly higher sopranos, with youthful sound. Tarja has dark timbre, Floor is forcing this dark sound, and it doesn't feel like Christine. Check out Sierra Bogges performing it.

No es un grito, lo que pasa esque son dos tesituras diferentes la de Tarja y la de Floor, Tarja es una soprano lyrica, al igual que la canante original de la canción, de ahi que ambas tienen un timbre muy similar en la cancion, bastante mas suave y con un rango vocal ligeramente mas alto, capaces de atinarle al E6 con facilidad, cabe recalcar que ninguna de als dos realiza muy buen desempeño en la actualidad en esta canción. Por otro lado está Floor, ella es una soprano dramatica, con un timbre mas alto es decir con un sonido mas potente de hecho puedes comparar ambas presentaciones y vez como la voz de floor pareciera tener mas peso que la tarja, es mas oscura, esto da en notas altas la impresión de ser mucho mas ruidoso el tono de voz de lo que debería ser para la canción, esta caracteristica es precisamente la que hace que las sopranos dramamticas sean las escogidas para interpretar arias que requieren atravesar muchas capas de instrumentacion a altos volumenes lo que una soprano lyrica o coloratura como Tarja no podrían hacer, ya que ellas son escogidas para arias con instrumentacion mas suave y un que requieren un rango vocal mas alto que el de una doprano dramática. Entonces en resumidas cuentas Floor aunque si cumple con los requisitos para cantar la cancion en terminos de rango vocal, pues es capaz de alcanzar las notas, esa ultima nota no se ajusta a su timbre pues al ser una nota tan alta genera un incremento proporcional en el volumen de su voz que hace que sea mas ruidoso de lo que debería ser. Aunque en el resto de la cancion por ser notas mas bajas logra tener un desempeño bueno, esto se debe a que las diferentes clases de sopranos encuentran mayores diferencias en los estremos mas bajos y altos de sus respectivos rangos vocales pues es donde salen a luz estos diferentes tipos de timbres y caracteristicas en la voz.

You are watching a spliced & diced performance, of the wish for many of us to have seen Floor & Marko having been able to perform it together. She is singing at a different tempo based on the musicians she is with. There is always this desire to one up Tarja over Floor, I don’t get it. I think NW gave it the Phantom was Tarja’s NW staple, & Mark, & didn’t want anymore flack, so we were denied a famous song from another singers interpretation. So is Floor’s Beste Zangers 2019 Phantom PAINFUL to watch? Of course NOT! I much prefer it!

A valiant effort on her part, but clearly not the style of music that she's best suited for. This is why tuomas doesn't let her sing this song with nightwish. Doing so would invite comparison to a certain former vocalist who often sang this song and that comparison would be most unfavorable to Floor. It's always better to play to your strength rather than to your weakness.
Nikyu Listen to Tarja's act I rendition of Phantom of the Opera. Then realize that during that concert Tarja was 6 months pregnant! It's not obvious because Tarja stayed very fit during her pregnancy and the dresses she wore hide it quite well, but at certain points in the video when she's filmed from the side, especially in the white dress, you can see it. Also at the very end when they all take their bow, Doug (Wimbish) gestures and points to her womb. Anyway, Tarja is 6 months pregnant and she still delivers a solid rendition of the song, far superior to Floors rendition. When it comes to this song and this style of vocals Tarja is just light years beyond Floor and the proof is in the performance. And yes, nowadays she can still sing this song better than Floor ever has been able to.
Oh yeah, and what rendition of Tarja did you mean, Stefan? The old one in the year of 2005? Yeah that's good buut... compared to Floor's even that rendition is only a so so... Soo??

Marco's voice really makes this song great. Although I prefer Floor's singing I like Tarja's version better. This one seems to drag with no power (only when Marcos belts out).
The fact that Tarja's version has the benefit of being played by Nightwish and Floor's isn't has something to do with how the song is as well.

@@anne29030 This is a fan made spliced video, at two separate concerts. Tarja is woman singing with Marco in the original video they are using here. They just don't show her in this version.

No guys, Tarja didn't hit the right note either. She hit Eb6, original note should be E6 or smthg. To be honest, I don't like these versions too much, song is written for lighter, slighly higher sopranos, with youthful sound. Tarja has dark timbre, Floor is forcing this dark sound, and it doesn't feel like Christine. Check out Sierra Bogges performing it.

No es un grito, lo que pasa esque son dos tesituras diferentes la de Tarja y la de Floor, Tarja es una soprano lyrica, al igual que la canante original de la canción, de ahi que ambas tienen un timbre muy similar en la cancion, bastante mas suave y con un rango vocal ligeramente mas alto, capaces de atinarle al E6 con facilidad, cabe recalcar que ninguna de als dos realiza muy buen desempeño en la actualidad en esta canción. Por otro lado está Floor, ella es una soprano dramatica, con un timbre mas alto es decir con un sonido mas potente de hecho puedes comparar ambas presentaciones y vez como la voz de floor pareciera tener mas peso que la tarja, es mas oscura, esto da en notas altas la impresión de ser mucho mas ruidoso el tono de voz de lo que debería ser para la canción, esta caracteristica es precisamente la que hace que las sopranos dramamticas sean las escogidas para interpretar arias que requieren atravesar muchas capas de instrumentacion a altos volumenes lo que una soprano lyrica o coloratura como Tarja no podrían hacer, ya que ellas son escogidas para arias con instrumentacion mas suave y un que requieren un rango vocal mas alto que el de una doprano dramática. Entonces en resumidas cuentas Floor aunque si cumple con los requisitos para cantar la cancion en terminos de rango vocal, pues es capaz de alcanzar las notas, esa ultima nota no se ajusta a su timbre pues al ser una nota tan alta genera un incremento proporcional en el volumen de su voz que hace que sea mas ruidoso de lo que debería ser. Aunque en el resto de la cancion por ser notas mas bajas logra tener un desempeño bueno, esto se debe a que las diferentes clases de sopranos encuentran mayores diferencias en los estremos mas bajos y altos de sus respectivos rangos vocales pues es donde salen a luz estos diferentes tipos de timbres y caracteristicas en la voz.

You are watching a spliced & diced performance, of the wish for many of us to have seen Floor & Marko having been able to perform it together. She is singing at a different tempo based on the musicians she is with. There is always this desire to one up Tarja over Floor, I don’t get it. I think NW gave it the Phantom was Tarja’s NW staple, & Mark, & didn’t want anymore flack, so we were denied a famous song from another singers interpretation. So is Floor’s Beste Zangers 2019 Phantom PAINFUL to watch? Of course NOT! I much prefer it!

A valiant effort on her part, but clearly not the style of music that she's best suited for. This is why tuomas doesn't let her sing this song with nightwish. Doing so would invite comparison to a certain former vocalist who often sang this song and that comparison would be most unfavorable to Floor. It's always better to play to your strength rather than to your weakness.
I think she did pretty great. But of course, Tarja has a much more opera-oriented voice.

Nikyu Listen to Tarja's act I rendition of Phantom of the Opera. Then realize that during that concert Tarja was 6 months pregnant! It's not obvious because Tarja stayed very fit during her pregnancy and the dresses she wore hide it quite well, but at certain points in the video when she's filmed from the side, especially in the white dress, you can see it. Also at the very end when they all take their bow, Doug (Wimbish) gestures and points to her womb. Anyway, Tarja is 6 months pregnant and she still delivers a solid rendition of the song, far superior to Floors rendition. When it comes to this song and this style of vocals Tarja is just light years beyond Floor and the proof is in the performance. And yes, nowadays she can still sing this song better than Floor ever has been able to.
