Unfortunately it probably isn't possible - Mechabellum has a timer for unit selection, TABS doesn't. There's no time to spin the wheel for both players.
@@Timmeh7o7d there is no custom settings either, if I remember correctly. There’s no way to alter anything, no spawning units, no changing rules. You can’t even set up a match with a longer time limit, or change how the fog-of-war works for spectators. To be fair, this is Early Access, and the game just came out. But still, it’s pretty bare bones. EDIT: watch the start of the video, see those tick boxes under there names? That’s the extent you can customise custom matches. Those are the only options you can play with I believe.
@@zilentis1835 if you go into solo then testing grounds, that is basically like the sandbox tabs where tom played horse with wheel of wacky, you can spawn units, place for both sides and the timer is 9999
One upgrade they always forget about is the respawn on the pheonix. High DPS glass cannons, normally very fragile- respawn solves that. Even a solid Pheonix counter will struggle against them. There's a tendency in these games to go for more units, but low tier units can sometimes fall flat against their typical counters assuming they're upgraded. Sometimes doubling down on a strat and buying good upgrades is so good value for money wise, that you can win on a well managed economy basis.
I meet someone that used this and put one phoenix unit to patrol the far backside just for respawns. I was just lucky that i was mass sniper so i could handle it. Would have totally lost otherwise.
Speaking of, I never really understood the point of single use buffs (ie the sentry missile) due to the game mechanics and limited economy. If you are trying to buy time or it is the final round, arguments might be made for them; otherwise, I fail to see the long-term benefit and it appears to be harmful to oneself. Even in the case of buying time, though, it would require one to be able to make a significant difference by the extension of one round where your opponent squanders their resources/misplays, which is unlikely else you wouldn't be in the situation you were in at that point already. Unless I'm missing something...
It's not really a good tech against decent players. It's too slow to have an effect when it really matters and it's solved easily with giving marksmen or wasps electromagnetic shot.
With elite specialist, I like spending 100 on either the 10% attack or hp upgrade on the first round since you can't get another unit. Or well, you can if you sell one of your 200 cost units
Selling units isn't ideal early on, you want to put more units on the board so they gain xp. I typically save the 100 so I can afford 2 units on round 2
@@natvanrooyen it makes each beam only 17% as effective compared to un upgraded, so it usualy just makes the unit worse. @@Maglouk It also lowers the melting point's max damage to 17% of the original fyi. And both upgrades are worth it if all the unit is targeting is chaff. @@stevenglikin3219 I know the melting point also gets 17% but the reason it doesn't affect it as much is because of the base damage is super low & ramp up damage is where it shines, and 1 beam at 100% against for example sledgehammer tanks: Convert helps conversion of the next due to dps help since it's based on HP. then speeds it up. also provides distraction 5 beam manages to convert no tank, while 1 beam converts 2-5 depending on distraction from conversion. I loved how into this game LOLIP was. I think she brought more entertainment than any the other yogs you paired up with for mechabellum in prior videos. She's just got so much energy!
Great to see Lolip here, and really getting into the game. I'd love to see Tom host a Mechabellum Horse tournament, if he can find the time and willing* participants.
As Maurelius said a Wheels of whacky on this would be fun. The easiest one for this would be either "combinations of small units and medium only" kinda thing or "choose 1st/4th card only" for each player before starting the rounds.... surely would be WHACKY fun to watch😄
So early missiles/shields. It'd seem to be they'd only be worth it if they allow you to gain enough experience to make up for the 50/100 cost. And that's hard to calculate because then you need to actually spend the money to upgrade the unit. Am I right thinking that?
they also have use in preventing enemy units from gaining that experience. shields can also negate field effects placed in their area (e.g the free powers like the missile strike or the enemies own sentry missiles). shields also persist between rounds if they aren't destroyed which is harder to do in early rounds (assuming no early shield cracker loadouts like steel balls)
Well, if you want me to give some tips to Lolip: have you tried Not Sucking? But seriously, a couple of things I noticed that were MAYBE keeping her back a bit: investing in missiles might get you some very tasty unit kills in a round, but that's money down the drain. If you use it on units, that investment is still on the board in the next round, so trying to spend all your money on units and upgrades is WAY better in the long run. Also, you really need to factor in unit level when trying to counter things. It's still important, but if your Lv1 Arclight is deploying to counter Lv3 Crawlers, it probably can't oneshot them and you're not going to be able to consider that unit hard countered.
It's a great dynamic. Just like Tom and Ben. And Tom and Lydia. And Tom and Boba. And Tom and Lewis. And Tom and Simon. And Tom and Tom B. And Tom and Zylus. And Tom and Hat Films....
holy friggity frick how much did you pay Lollypoggy?? look Tom just because you consecutively suffered *pathetic* , *miserable* losses to every single guest in mechabellum - save the one complete noob at the start - doesn't mean you can stage yourself a 5-round smackdown against a pro circuit legend like this. I mean it's just... **unrealistic**, you know? also love the permanent confused status effect on lolip; "How-Why is this happening??!" 😄
My tip is, treat this game like star craft 2. In general, spend your credits efficiently, focus your spending around 3 or 4 core units. Make sure those core units each do something a bit different (example if you have a unit that already does AOE splash damage consider getting a different unit that does high burst damage or acts as anti air instead of a second AOE unit) Choose early if you are going to play "wide" or play "deep" (meaning are you going to go for mass recruitment every term with lower quality units or are you going to focus more around a few really high upgraded units). If your losing consider commiting to the air and winning the aerial wars. Be mindful of flanks and the dreaded concave (a c shape which maximizes unit damage), be mindful of unit speeds and try to get units to connect with your enemies all at once rather than slowly trickling them in. Avoid short term gains with consumables unless absolutely necessary, long term permanent improvements to your side wins games. If you use even half those tips semi regularly you'll probably win more games than you lose... even if you aren't entirely sure about every rock, paper, scissors, match up and the relevant upgrades to those matchups.
Surprised to see Angory Tom taking on the meta-master Lol10761307 AKA Lolipopgi. (Seeing her username change in the UI caught me by surprise). More Mechabellum & more new Angory dual duels are always just fantastic!!
there's 3-4 main units/types you need to focus on stormcallers, steel ball, "small stuff" great for aoe, great as a cheap+tanky spread out version of melting point, and chaff to counter whatever you're facing and tank for your storm/balls. a lot of the big big units are imo a bit of a bait because there's so much you can do to counter them so heavily, but that's me.
Loli was very fun in this, absolutely terrible at the game, no idea why tho, but I still enjoyed her presence tremendously. Seeing as she is one of the most excited yogs about the game I'd love to see the two of you play and learn from each other :).
idk why nobody seems to respect the hackers, every "kill" they get is at MINIMUM a 2 for 1, if the stolen unit gets a kill it only goes up from there (not to mention the aggro pull because all units seem to just target the nearest enemy), and they seem to cost less than the other big mechs, and a good composition will protect them in theory anyways. I think the biggest reason to not take them is actually if your opponent is doing something like aerial specialist, where going harder into countering their strat is going to be more successful
They're also slow with a short range, so I assume he's trying to hit the sweet spot where they get in during the main fight, but not as the first arrival
