Lovely bracelet, John! It reminds me of a bangle I tried to make in my jewelry class in design school, which for some reason I bombed on totally. Why did you choose to start with raising it along the length of the still-flat piece of metal instead of shaping it into the cuff "C" first? Would that have produced a different sort of result? That's what I did: I soldered the ends together to create the bangle and then went to town trying to raise the sides and ruffle the edges. Emphasis on the word "try." My professor confused me to no end with all of the different hammers and stakes, and in the end, I ended up with nothing usable . But watching you do this, it makes me wonder if I wouldn't have been better off to form it first, and *then* to solder the ends...? (Please excuse any mangling of the terminology; that's another thing that I never really did get straight.)
Hi Wendy Ann, The reason why I curved the edges of the bracelet blank first is so that I could slide the blank along the stake easier and initiate the first curve. Otherwise, I would have struggled to create an anticlastic form. If you have the stakes and hammers you give your bracelet another try. Thanks for your support! : )
The wooden tool was made in another OJA video. But you can purchase metal and Delrin tools that are similar from most jewelry suppliers. The Delrin mallet was purchased online as well. Be sure to shop around for the best price. Thanks for your support! : )
OnlineJewelryAcademy Hi John , I had a question and hope you can help me by answering. You reckon I can cut this 22 gauge copper with a Dremel moto saw. Dremel said you can cut up to 20 gauge metal max but didn’t define whether they meant soft metal or hard metal. This is what I was told: Max 20 gauge steel and 22 gauge soft metals such as Aluminum. I reckon copper is soft metal. Here is the Dremel moto saw I am talking about: th-cam.com/video/rR1EmXG9ja0/w-d-xo.html Just wanted to ask the expert before purchasing it :) !
