Matt Kenseth really showed his talent here replacing Bobby Labonte. Ironically, Kenseth would race with Joe Gibbs, but not in the 18, he would do so in the 20 from 2013-2017 and he was a consistent championship threat for so many years.

this track did bite Hendrick Motorsports and Jeff Gordon I am glad that Jeff did finally did win at Texas. terry labonte deserved to win at this track after he lost a chance to win the 1996 Daytona 500 in that very fast number 5 Chevrolet he had that day.

Ah, yes. The Primestar 500. The race where JG finished last after crashing out and Texas Terry won on his home track (The first time that a Lone Star State native won a Cup race in Texas in the Modern Era, if I'm not mistaken).

Then Jeff's only other 43rd-place finish was there 9 years later in the Spring of 2008. Can't believe it took him 17 tries to win at Texas Motor Speedway, and he started on the Pole in the Fall of 2008 and Fall 2009.

Glad they fixed those issues, I hated Texas for a long time, I still do to an extent. But I am glad they were able to fix that to where they weren't wadding the field up in the turn at the start of the race.
