    Please continue to show us more information about these QUADLN_S boards and their different options. Seems like a very interesting product.

      They will be featured in several videos during the construction of the main layout.

    Signals will take the layout to the next level.

    HiWatch so many videos on layout construction, and again you were so thorough with your presentation.
    Every time I see somebody using some signals and switch machines like this I wonder how? Thank you for a great video that shows us the basics from the start.
    Also when the
    GOAT does a test track, it's proof that even you will research thoroughly before putting something together.
    P.S..
    Thanks for showing us the puppy!

      Until recently, I was in that same position. It's been quite a learning curve for me. Hopefully, this video and the one next week will help others to get over that hump.

    If the eventual plan is to be able to control turnouts from JMRI then there needs to be a separate occupancy detection for each turnout. That is the only way to prevent changing a turnout position when it is occupied. Of course it requires suitable coding in JMRI as well.

    • @mpeterll
      @mpeterll  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Turnouts can be grouped together and all of them can be locked when the block is occupied. In the situation shown, the two turnouts on the upper main are one block and the three turnouts on the lower main are another. That way, the turnout is considered occupied as soon as the first axle of a train has passed the signal that protects it.

    NCE also does not get feedback from turnout decoders, perhaps all dcc systems are similar? Was baffled until I worked that out. I kept my octopi and use the physical switch attached to the servo to drive two cheap arduino relays - one to switch frog polarity and one for turnout feedback sensors via NCE AIU boards. Frog juicers seem expensive and I've had a few of them fail. Using Train Controller, automation in JMRI was beyond me.

    The wire diagram would be helpful to understand how to wire it up

      All the wiring diagrams you need are in the manuals supplied with the various circuit boards.

    Is the second system you tried LCC? It looks familiar.

      No, it's the Quad-LN board from N3ix.

      Went to their website for the answer. Yes it does, this originally was part of Tam Valley and was spun off.

    Peter your test track looks great, one question the crossover you installed they look like #8 is this correct

    • @mpeterll
      @mpeterll  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes, they are #8. although I could have used shorter turnouts for the test track, I wanted to use turnouts that can be repurposed later in the project. They will all go into the upper staging yard once I've finished with the test track.
      The visible main-line turnouts on the actual layout are all #10's though.

    Is your layout DC?

    Have you created a problem by blocking the middle of the windows for fire exit in an emergency? I used to do inspections as a contractor for a cabal of insurance companies and we had to look at issues like this and send pictures back to the company I reported to.

    • @mpeterll
      @mpeterll  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Fire codes only require two exits. I have 3 doors and 10 windows. Windows only ever open to half the frame size anyway, so the hole through those windows isn't any smaller now than before I built it.

    Great idea to build the test track in the configuration of the parts of the layout. Is the test track hanging on the French cleats?

    • @mpeterll
      @mpeterll  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, everything is on those same cleats, even the computer desk.
