  • Wind measured about 3 knots just right before went out. After about 20 mins the wind start to pick up a little.
    Kite: Ozone R1V2 17m (17m lines)

    extreme for newbies: 40 knots and 3mt waves
    extreme for expert kiters: 3 knots and flat water

    VERY difficult to pull this off ... well done!
    Also, an excellent physics lesson on the difference between apparent and true wind velocity ... 🤓

    Impressive water relaunchability. Both the pilot and the kite seem to be good ;-)

    @3:45 when you backloop the kite to start, hear the board gush through the water as you get up and then silence. So nice to experience first hand.

    5-6kts minimum. And the kite might behave a little better if you depower it at launch to keep it from stalling.

    Wow... thats pretty fricken awesome! Recently I've been thinking about getting a foil kite for the really light days, and I must say I'm much more convinced now heh.

      In 2010, Gunnar Biniasch also foiled in 3 knots of wind th-cam.com/video/fb68bZjXUbE/w-d-xo.html . With the right kite (foil kites), you can do it below 5 knots. However above 5 knots will be easier to foil for almost any light wind kite (include LEI).

      Oh wow yeah, and he's pulling back rolls and such too. The lowest I've gone is 7-8 knots with a 12 meter inflatable and a pretty fat foil and that was pushing it haha.

  • @kniefi
    @kniefi 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    holy shit! you reached very impressive speeds, considering how little wind there was!
    I am always afraid of dropping the kite, due to a messed up turn and there being no apparent wind anymore...
    happened once and had to take a huge swim back...
    nice that you got the kite out of the water again in the beginning^^
    what could have been a very frustrating start and end of the kite day turned into a fantastic journey in almost no real wind

    Noob question probably but why are you always holding the depower line? Are you constantly trimming ?

    • @danleow
      @danleow 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      FlyBenBo because there is where the front lines are and I don’t want to choke the kite by pulling the bar in light wind

    • @MatsBohlinsson
      @MatsBohlinsson 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danleow You mean its better to adjust the trimline instead of moving the bar in light wind?

    • @danleow
      @danleow 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MatsBohlinsson You can do that too but in lighter wind is good to choke the kite down into the power window and restart again from there.

    Hey man awsome video..I just started foiling 1 to 2 months ago,I have a liquid force rocket foil..I have a 12m north rebel and a 9m airush ultra..I get around 10knots where i am at..i tried taking out my 12m and couldn't even water start got dragged into a non wind channel tunnel and had coast guard come rescue me..its awsome to see this kind of video..I'm thinking of investing in a 12m or 15m soul flysurfer to be able to get out more..after my last incident I was a bit discouraged of heading out there with low winds..any advice?

    • @danleow
      @danleow 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey I am glad you liked the video. For sure foil kites are the ultimate kites in super light wind which is exceptionally great kite combo with foil board. The kite size also depends on your foil wings, usually lower aspect wings will work fine with smaller kites. But if you have higher aspect wings I would suggest using bigger kites.

    From experience i would say that riding 3x wind speed is pretty normal in Kite Hydrofoiling. 4x is already fast. Assuming very good material setup having 5x Windspeed (really possible?) you would have at least 5 Knots in that video as your GPS states 25 knots riding speed. Starting with a downloop with a 17 Kite with 3-4 knots is definitely possible but as we can see in the video is not easy to hold kite in the sky... but out on the water there was more than 3 knots

    • @danleow

      Michael Hucke Maxime was foiling in 2.5 knots in Korea last year

  • @Metroscan1
    @Metroscan1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    During his racing there is really at least 5-6 knots. even UL foils cannot hang on 3 knots officialy, they need at least 4 knots for it. Zenit 5knots at least.

    I am a foiler also When I go to the water and there's no wind, I go anyway. The kite wants to fall out of the sky. But when you get up on the foil, something magic happens. It still bewilders me.

    • @kniefi
      @kniefi 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      One thing you got to watch out for - messing up turns on your foil.
      As a kind of foil newbie, I was used to going out as far as I did on my twintip ( 1 - 1,5miles) often even further
      and let me tell you - swimming back to shore with a totally wet pile of lines and cloth (tried to fold up and roll up as much as possible) while leaning half on your board is no fun!
      took me over a freaking hour of swimming to get back to shore and that was it for the day, washed ashore totally exhausted - lesson learned - although you really should not go out further then you would want to swim back, one does it anyways sometimes...
