    Thank you very much for these lessons!
    There is a difference between being able to communicate what you want and being understood. and expressing precisely your feelings.
    The latter is hard, and your lessons help me.

    Awsome...this was the first board meeting of the project and I was not prepared and got cold feet that day....soon after the meeting got over I went to meet my BFF over a lunch as I wanted to get something off my chest...she was very supportive and told me do not feel defwtaed and you have got this as she got my back...I was encouraged ...she even planned scuba diving for me so that I can let down my hair after being worn out from office work

    It is a good idea to tell us first a situation with the idiom is used and give us a chance to figure out its meaning. Some teachers ask students to chose once correct answer out of three, which is much easier and not that interesting.

    Annemarie, I worked as an Executive Secretary in a big company for 23 years so I could see myself in almost examples you used here. Oh, my Gosh!, I think you did it for me. LOL. Well, today I am not there anymore and I can say I am letting down my hair and I don't have a chip on my shoulder anymore neither those people that are a pain in the neck. I apologize to my colleagues of the profession but to be an executive secretary is demanding. I don't want it anymore. Thanks for all!

    Hi Annemarie, I usually go through your videos and look over the notes I take. recently, I´ve come across the idiom"to get something off one´s chest". could I use the idiom " pour my heart out to you" similarly?
    since both idioms refer to sharing my annoying feelings or upsetting thoughts ?
    thanks

    • @Speakconfidentenglish
      @Speakconfidentenglish  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for the question. It's a very thoughtful one. These idioms aren't exactly the same. To get something off one's chest suggests that someone is angry, annoyed, or frustrated and has been holding in that negative feelings. After doing so for a length of time, they need to finally share those negative emotions.
      To pour one's heart out is more about sharing deep, personal feelings at length.

    Once I had this girlfriend and as we've been together for some time and got along, we decided to get engaged. Here in Brazil, things are like this: if you're going to do that you've got to have a good engagement ring to show to her parents by the time of the engagement event (reunion, meeting, party, or something like that). Guess what? During my entire childhood and part adolescence, I was a stutter. Everybody knows that in situations like this you should be or even play like you are confident. So, having cold feet was as natural as a child having a sweet tooth, and to add insult to injury her father wasn't my biggest fan. Well, to make a long story short, I faced the music and things couldn't be better. What a relief!

  • @marymendonca233

    Hi, Anne Marie
    Here in Brazil the expression "cold foot" means that someone gives or brings bad luck. For example: Imagine that a group of friends is watching a football game and the favorite team is winning ,. Suddenly another person arrives, and the team starts to lose. Everybody say: "you are a cold foot". I don't know if you understood, I would like to know how to explain like you do
    Thank you, Kisses
