    I'm a quilter and I love cats too. I have made fancy quilts. Just now I'm making my sweet Dil a quilt in her wedding colours, blush and sage. But just simple. Just a jelly roll quilt. Lovely fabric and a beautiful back. I like a simple quilt.

    I love your Make 9 grid this year! I also love that you include a row dedicated to Big 4 patterns. I live in the USA and have the fortune of getting these patterns at a very low price at my local store. Sometimes the directions are a little confusing but they’re not as bad as some people make it out to be and sometimes I find that I learn more from figuring it out than if my hand was held. I have made the Butterick 6051 and it’s a really nice pattern and fit. I made view A, sleeveless with the crossover neckline and shortened to above the knees. A piece of advice is to make a neckband that attaches into the front panel because the way they do a fold over hem left my knit fabric stretched a little at the front neckline. Once I made a neckband similar to the sirocco jumpsuit, it fit perfectly snug to my chest. Happy sewing with your Make 9! 🧵💖

    What a lovely selection Michelle for your Make 9. I have made the Sagebrush three times, two in viscose and one in cotton lawn, i absolutely love the viscose ones, more so than the more structured cotton lawn. Cath Craft has done a tutorial on how to reduce the puffiness on the Sagebrush sleeves which i found most helpful. Thank you.

    • @SewingBunny
      @SewingBunny  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh good to know or you prefer the sagebrush in viscose 👍 I have seen about reducing the sleeve so that is an option as well which is a great idea x

    Such a lovely set of patterns there Michelle and I think all those clothes patterns will look fab on you 👌. I love that you choose some bag and crafting ones too. The tote looks great and you will get that sewed up in no time Michelle 💪. Looking forward to seeing how you get on through the year 🙏💖🤗😘

    Great plans! I don’t personally do a make 9, I do plan out my wardrobe by season and keep a list of what I want to make. It helps me prioritize what I really need and what would be nice to make.

    I'm with you, I just finished my second quilting projects. One was a full size Christmas quilt, the other was I quilted my first quilt coat, I'm now trying to finish my third quilting project. I love those cat lap blankets, great idea. I also haven't sewn the TATB Lyra because a lot of people say there are fitting issues with the armsye, I've only been sewing for 18 months and I get flustered with adjusting patterns to fit me. I look forward to seeing if you run into any issues. Take care, I loved this blog❤

    • @SewingBunny

    Another very enjoyable video. Looking forward to seeing your 2024 makes. I've made 3 Lyra's, love the dress. Just like you, I'm not sure about wrap over tops/dresses, and steer away from jumpsuits - maybe I should give one a go!!

    I love your make nine. A lot of patterns I'd make too and I also have all of these except the jumpsuit. I like the new Zadie dress but I don't think I could do a jumpsuit. I just don't love my tummy area. I might sew along with you. ❤❤

    Great Make 9 Plans! I love how you organized them into categories. I have made the New Look 6449 dress pattern, also in denim, and just happen to be wearing it as I watch your video! Yes, I love it that much and wear the dress often, usually with tights & boots or unbuttoned over leggings and a T-shirt. It is really comfortable and versatile, and the pockets are the best, including the chest pocket where I can put my reading glasses. Happy Sewing!

    Lovely grid, Michelle! I totally copied your idea with separating the make nine plans into rows :)
    I have only made two of these patterns. I love the Sagebrush, and I have made several versions (including two without the elastic in the sleeve. Love that look, too). I have also made the Zadie, but I couldn't get the fit right. I have made two versions, and I sized down two sizes for both. There were still too much fabric at the back, and I looked like I wore a nappy. Ugh. Tried darts, and sway back adjustments, but I think it is harder to fit as I am slightly pear shaped. I have made two Zadies for my daughter, who has a more straight figure, and they look great on her. Good luck on your sewing!

    I was disappointed that Misty didn't come in and interrupt though! I have made the Sagebrush & I would definitely recommend a puff refuction for broad shoulders. If you end up enjoying bagmaking there are lots of You Tubers that do fantastic bagmaking tutorials that you may enjoy for future projects.

    I love that you do stuff for the Cats Protection. My first cat came from them. I was due to pick up a little grey and white cat but when I arrived, they had just raided a breeder and had a house full of siamese cats. They bundled me off with this scrawny, yowling siamese and I was a bit shell-shocked at first. It took us 6 months to get him free of worms but he turned into a much-loved and long-lived pet and was later joined by two other rescued siamese. As for the sewing, I really enjoyed seeing your plans. The bag willl be a simple make. You are a good sewer, so will have no problems with that. I am like you though - I need a pattern. I am off to look at Cara's jersey maxi dress as I really like the look of that.

    An interesting vlog, thank you. I am new to your channel. I like the idea of Make 9, but I've not yet done it. It might be a little too organised for me, but I will give it a go. My problem could be narrowing down all my planned projects to just 9 :-) I found the varied choices in your grid very interesting. I have seen some different ideas regarding what a Make 9 can be comprised of, for example choosing 9 fabrics from one's stash to get sewn up, 9 sewing techniques to use for the first time, and choosing 9 pattern designers to try. I love all these different takes on it. I haven't made any of the patterns in your grid, but I do sew for Cats Protection, making mainly cat toys and mini quilts. I have volunteered for CP since 2011 and used to sew all sorts of things for them to sell or raffle, but we are all growing older and we don't run the twice yearly sales anymore, sadly.

    • @SewingBunny
      @SewingBunny  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah thank you for watching! Yes there are so many different variations of the make nine, even if you don’t take part this year it can give you some ideas 😁 how lovely to hear you also make things for the cats ❤️ xx

  • @dianewilliams7931
    @dianewilliams7931 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, Michelle! You got me with your cat quilts! When you were introducing your grid< I glanced up and thought "She's doing placemats, too!" 😂 I just picked up some fabric to make some placemats with my granddaughter so I have placemats on my mind. I think that Vogue dress is adorable! If I catch a pattern sale and get the itch to make a dress, I may consider that one. I agree with your observations on fabric type. A draped viscose can really change how you feel in a. garment compared to a crisp linen or cotton. Though I am contemplating a linen shirt dress for summer...🤔 but how many dresses does a retiree need!🙄

    Sagebrush is lovely, I’ve made a long sleeve one too. Viscose is good for it. I haven’t made the Lyra either and the zadie I have an unfinished one made from cotton sateen. Wrong fabric but the sizing I found difficult. The top was fine but the bottom I sized down 2 sizes and it was still big so study the pattern sizes

    Hi Michelle happy New year 🎉 I can't believe you have not tried the Lyra dress😮 you would be so able for it, I have made a few times but I think the next time I will put elastic at the waste. I made the sage top as well if you are big about the bust I'd leave the frill off. The fat quarters you could also use to make some tote bags. ❤

    I find make 9 really motivating, it’s a January push in the right direction. I don’t beat myself up or berate myself for not getting one or two of them done because I find I’ve made many other things in their place. I’ve had that Butterick pattern for years unmade so I had a look on instagram after you mentioned it and recalled Cara’s version so that is going on my make 9. Thanks for sharing 🙏❤️💙💜

    I love the planning stage of sewing, so I've made a Make 9 for this year as well. Like someone else mentioned, it motivates me to try things out of my comfort zone, or just have a general idea of what I want to make because I can see the garments fitting in my wardrobe really well. Butterick 6051 (which is my favourite maxi of all time) has also recently been published as New Look 6751, which only has 2 views but includes the scoop neck view that you mention. Might be one to keep an eye out for when it comes to sales :)

My friend gave me a cross stitch birthday card with sewing machine and other sewing items and I have framed it as it was so lovely to receive and know the work that went into it. I’ve set out a rough plan based on 8 garment types plus 1 as other crafts. Happy new year! I hope you enjoy doing more garments. I think it’s lovey to be able to do a mix of crafts x

    Definitely on team Make Nine. Yours looks well thought out and I love that you included the cross stitch cards and kitty blankets. If you’d like to see mine, I posted a video of my Make Nine to my TH-cam channel last week.

    Happy new year Michelle. I like the V9237 pattern and have made 2. The only thing that I'd change, when I make it again, is to do a shoulder adjustment as it's a little wide for me - it falls a little off the shoulder but I think that's how it's designed. I'd be interested to hear how you find it, and I look forward to seeing your make 😊

    Hi Michelle! Happy new year. I’m not doing a make 9 this year but I have done in the past. I just wanted to mention that my very first garment was the New Look shirt dress. I made it in 2018 and still love it and wear it. The instructions are not as bad as you may think but it is about 1 size too big. I just wanted to let you know about that 😊

      Ah that’s so helpful thank you! It’s lovey to hear you liked it too 😁👍

    Happy New Year Michelle. I love make 9, only realistically set myself up for Make 5 & manage 3. Love to see your ideas & it motivates me to try & make more time for sewing 😀

      That’s a great idea to bring the number down to what is a more realistic goal for you! Happy sewing xx

    Happy New Year Michelle! It's a very interesting plan! The big 4 have nice designs but they required so many modifications to fit me that it is ridiculous😅... always make me feel like my body is weird... I was literally on the friday pattern co website this week-end and almost bought the sage pattern but I was there for the wilder gown and stuck to the plan😊. Can't wait to see yours!

      Yeah the big 4 can be quite hit and miss I find too! Oh have fun with the wilder gown I made that a while ago and it is lovely

    Can I make a tip ? When I remember I use Listerene as a gargle and I haven’t had a cold for 10 years they say that most germs start in the throat so if my throat feels a bit funny I have a gargle or if I’ve been n company and someone has a cold so give it a go 🤧🤧🤧

    I like your thought process! If you like it try it. I have had my eye on the Zadie for years, but not sure…LOL! Can’t wait to see your makes. What size do you make the quilted cat blankets?

    Love the idea of make nine but know I would never stick to it! Too much of a butterfly! I have made the Sagebrush because I loved it but didn't really think it was for me as I am quite 'busty' - but I love it so much and it does suit me so I now have three versions, so do try it. I am also thinking of the Lyra dress - I recently bought a shirt dress because I loved the fabric and realised that a shirt dress is OK on my figure if I fit it properly - I am beginning to think it suits most people.

    • @SewingBunny
      @SewingBunny  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the make nine isn’t for everyone and totally understandable 😁 great to hear you made the sagebrush x

    P. S. Do you use a specific pattern or instructions for your cross stitch cards? After hearing about them, I have a few special people that I might consider making cards for. I also enjoy cross stitch but a lot of cross stitch projects seem to take forever!

    • @SewingBunny
      @SewingBunny  ปีที่แล้ว

      I do a variety of little kits or i download patterns which are perfect for cards and don’t take as long 😁

    By no means am I insinuating you are small busted, but I have always had that problem with wrap styles and did the small bust adjustment on the last couple I’ve made and voila, no more gaping.

    • @SewingBunny
      @SewingBunny  ปีที่แล้ว

      You could be right, I often find that my bust size is 1 or 2 sizes smaller than my waist and hip dress size in patterns. I tend to grade between sizes by a small bust adjustment could be a better idea xx

    Happy New Year Michelle, an interesting make 9. When I saw the Lyra on your grid I immediately thought of Ruan @theyorkshiresewgirl, she may have made 1 or 2! 😂
