  • SIRIO GAIN-MASTER ANTENNA: A REVIEW AND SET-UP
Here is something for amateur radio operators, CB enthusiasts and shortwave listeners!
As the solar cycle makes significant gains, the upper high-frequency bands are really producing some excellent propagation conditions.
To help make the most of Solar Cycle 25, you may want to consider a great antenna for that part of the shortwave spectrum without having to break the budget by getting into beams, masts and towers!
This video looks at the setup and performance of the Gain-Master vertical antenna. It is manufactured by Sirio, an Italian company that offers a wide product range of HF, VHF and UHF antennas. After having tested it for some months now, I have decided that I really like the Gain-Master. This video presents a few of my thoughts.

    Nice one Rob!
Have used exactly the same method of guying on a 40m 1/4 wave vertical that I put up a few weeks ago.
Has also survived the high winds just fine so far.
Going to look into one of those Sirio verticals for the higher bands also.
    73's!!

Good comment, Adam! We seem to be getting lots more wind here these days than we used to even ten years ago. We need to make sure that our antennas stay up in the air! Thanks, mate. Cheers, Rob VK3BVW

I'm looking at buying the 2016, people say it works good 40-10m with a tuner.

I have the 2016, and I can tell you that with a tuner it will work on 40/20/15/12/6 without a tuner 25mhz up to 30mhz

Hi Rob .. I noticed where you had the antenna mounted seemed reasonably close to metal roofing and gutters .. how far is the antenna from these ? I am looking at roof mounting mine and would use a 3 meter mast so I am hoping that would be far enough away from the roof sheeting.

Hi Richard. The base of the antenna (below the red choke winding) is just under 1 meter away from the steel roofline. I have noticed no effect of the roof on the antenna. In fact, before it went up to its current location, I tested the antenna for about three weeks on a large tripod (old PA speaker stand) at about 2.5 m off the ground. I got the same SWR readings at ground level as I did when placed above the roof - which I was very pleased about. I suspect that because the antenna is center-fed, it acts independently of objects below it. Thanks for checking out the video.

@@RobVK3BVW thanks for that information Rob .. I was suspecting somewhere around a 2 metre clearance would be sufficient to have no interaction.. 73’s Ric
