Thanks so much for sharing this info! I had just received my Tilta cage from B&H and I didn't know why it wouldn't slide onto my Z9. Your video was the only one I could find. When you talked about removing the little triangular things, that solved my problem. Tilta should have let you have the cage for free. You're doing a service for them that they should have done. Thanks again!

great video as always. I have the smallrig and the 10 pin Nikon WR-R11a fit perfectly. I had a Vello and it did not always fire. I guess you get what you pay for the actual Nikon trigger and remote work perfectly. Expensive yes but I was tired of missing shots so I took the plung.

    Hi Scott,
thanks for the video! It helped me make the right choice for my Z8. The TILTA would solve more of my problems, especially with the 10-pin plug. I'm only concerned about the 3/8" threaded connector, is there anything you can do to fix that?
    Thanks again!

I have the Nikon Z9 myself and been looking for another cage. The Small Rig is good, especially for the price but it is starting to wear out. Might check out the Tilta cage. Tilta is more on the premium side of video gear. So as long it is good quality as your video showed I don't mind getting a Tilta.

Hi Scott! Thank you for the Video. You mentioned at the beginning that you use a phone holder on your rig. May I ask which one are you using? I am looking for a phone holder that I can mount on my tripod leg or on the camera. As a beginner I like to make notes and have the Merlin App running. I struggle most of the time and don't know where to put my phone. Have a wonderful weekend

You failed to mention all the various hardware accessories that are designed to fit Smallrig cages. I’ve used Smallrig cages ever since I shot Sonys and now with the advent of the Z series I am acquiring Smallrig hardware for my Z9, Z5 (reusing that of my Z6 and Z7) and my Z50 (albeit minimal). I choose Smallrig because of my extensive experience with them and all the accessory hardware that I already have. Thanks, Tom KC3QAC

But Scott, one of the best things about the 3/8" holes is that they are made for the ARRI 3/8" devices, the Tilta doesn't have any. Using an Atomos with the ARRI mount to the Z9 cage and Atomos cage, nothing swivels or loosens. The Tilta does seem like it would accept a NATO mount but that means extra parts and an outdated clamp (bulky).

The Small Rig cage requires removing the Z9 camera's right strap ring before mount to the cage. Not a problem if using the camera with the cage 100% of the time but a problem for those also doing still photography with the Z9 camera as well and switching back and forth.

Same for Tilta cage - both triangle rings must be removed.

I don't know about the small rig cage, but the Tilta cage has slots on each side of the cage for camera straps. I was wondering the same thing, so I looked for something and there it was, right there on the cage in approximately the same position you'd find the triangles.
