The release of Better Call Saul’s series finale a few weeks ago also brought an end to what’s, in our opinion, the greatest television universe of all time after about 14 years. So, we think it’s time we took a look back at everything that went down in the 11 seasons across Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, as well as the Breaking Bad movie, El Camino, in timeline order, going through the events year by year. But if you haven’t watched some or any of Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, or El Camino, then make sure to check them out first, as they’ll each be linked in the description, before continuing on with our timeline breakdown of it.

I love it how every single one of us watched both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul as well as El Camino and still decide to watch an hour-long video about this universe. I'm proud of being the part of this community.
I saw BCS but not BB but watched this bc I wanted to understand the story better. 😂
@@helene420 Apparently if you watch BCS first then BB, you'll get a better experience.
I intentionally didn't watch a single episode of either muahahahaha
I disagree on term of community. Sometimes, one just likes a show or 2.
However, I do recommend the series ZeroZeroZero, based on a book detailing the Mexican Cartel's relationship with 'Ndrangheta Mafia of Calabria Italy. They are the largest partnership and customer for European and Mediterranean cocaine distribution. Book is better, but Mogwai doing the soundtrack is a nice touch to the series. In US, most think the Mafia is long gone, which is far from true in USA. However, Southern Italy operates similar to Mexico where Don's rule the working class against the State of Italy/Mexico. Both are deeply rooted in Latin Roman Catholicism. 1 wears Rattlesnake Skin Boots and speaks Mexican dialect Español, the other in Lambskin Loafers and speaks Calabrese Italiano. Largely, cut from same cloth and their resolve is identitcal.
Me too 🙋🏻♂️
You forgot to include the events of Slippin' Jimmy in this video, that time Jimmy and Marco battled against a fart demon when they were kids is absolutley integral to the timeline
Geniunly
What LOL
@@realmkkenshi88 Yep, that is something that happened in Breaking Bad canon
Also the throwback of Kim with her Mother
That’s not the point of this video fire comment tho
So in all honesty, despite it being the Breaking Bad Universe, I think we can all agree that Jimmy McGill is the main character. It’s his story, WW was just a chapter of it.
Well, yeah, in the sense that a ribeye is only part of the cow's story.
Same could be said about WW and how Jimmy was just a chapter of his life. I think the main character of this universe is regret
Everyone is the main character of there own story.
El camino pinkman
Breaking bad Walter
Better call saul Jimmy
For the whole universe itself is honestly Heisenberg Jimmy was mostly the catalyst for everything happening in the show while
The people in this comment thread are so stupid. The main comment obviously knows that Walter is the main character of Breaking Bad. Hes talking about how, ultimately, Jimmy McGill is the first AND last page of the Breaking Bad Universe. The story of this world began with him, and ended with him.
It wasn't the name change that put Saul on lalos' radar, it was the fact he stopped Tuco from killing those kids. It was family word of mouth. Lalo actually tells him this
Lalo is not a reliable narrator. He also claims not to sleep, which, while it matches up with his insanity, is literally physically impossible.
@@nobodyburgen4594 he does sleep but for short interals, you see him do it in season 6
@@RisingOnion Powernap is called i believe, mfs at a DC also used that for Batman
@@nobodyburgen4594
Look up Vince McMahons sleep habits. He is very similar. Rarely sleeps and is crazy AF lol.
@@finsfan90 don't know anything about him but he looks psychotic in his photos 😂
You skipped some minor details like Hank getting sent to El Paso as a potential promotion after killing Tuco, but while there an IED blast kills several DEA agents causing to Hank to also develop PTSD. Which causes him to go back to working on the Heisenberg case in an attempt to distract himself from his trauma, turning down another promotion which is how he managed to track down the RV
Right Right
And that Jimmy is the reason HHM's malpractice insurance skyrocketed
Hank couldn't cope with going any higher than he already was. He liked to be the big fish in the small sea..with his barking and joke telling. He resisted promotions because , deep down, knew his limitations. Once he went big league, to El Paso, he felt lost and humiliated by stronger, better, more intimidating colleagues. Just couldn't handle it that.

The transition from BCS to BB is so clean! This is honestly one of the best timeline videos of both series’ that I’ve seen. Keep up the good work!
Bro when he name dropped Jesse as a local drug dealer I got hype asf the same hype I felt seeing Jesse in BCS
Seamlessly done. I agree.
Only halfway through watching this did I realize that this wasn't one of those famous recap videos with millions of views & hundreds of thousands of comments, cuz it genuinely felt like one. This deserves so many more views & attention, absolutely amazing piece of work!

@@chrisnjustinfilm he's not wrong the quality is amazing, this must have taken alot of work
While the video is amazing, until a channel grows exponentially with subscribers, their videos won't get pushed by the algorithm....... unless someone with enough reddit clout posts it on their reddit, and that sends thousands of people in a short period of time making it go viral, then the YT algorithm will start pushing it.

You aren't a real woman
I adore BB and BCS, but something that really hurt to watch, was everything Howard gets put through by Saul and Kim and ultimately his cruel death.
That was horrendous.
Then again if you recall
Howard was on his way
plotting to do the same
to Jimmy. But the
intelligence of these
people's way of thinking.
Or Gilligan's way of thinking.
@@ninajefferson4018 Yeah Gilligan is quite the genius. The insane levels of detail, from the colour palette in his shows, and the general use of colours, his choice of locations and set designs, his actual story writing ability.
I sincerely hope he works on another project, or a brand new show idea, written by him.

Lol yeah there are small details in both BB and BCS that I didn't fully catch but didn't question too much and this video actually explained why those things happened very well
Both shows are actually self-explanatory
@@AK-dd9od what do you mean?
I agree. The events are explained perfectly. I missed a few episodes, now I want to re-watch the series. 😊
After everything, the ending for Jimmy, Walt, and Jesse were all perfect
Not Mike tho :(
@@gracekindt3446 or Hank :(

Jimmy was the only one to truly face Justice for their crimes. His ending was the most befitting.
@@PaladinOfNerds yeah but with all of the things Jesse went through with the fact that he was only in the business because Walt manipulated and blackmailed him, I’d say I’d prefer it over Jesse being put behind bars.
Howard didn't deserve what was done to him. His character assassination and his actual assassination is uncomfortable to watch and really shown how low Jimmy and Kim have sunk.

I've watched Breaking Bad front to back a minimum of 15 times. I own it on both DVD and blu-ray. I've watched and own Better Call Saul, and El Camino, a Breaking Bad story. I've watched many different recaps of all 3. This one, is by far, the most thorough. By putting all 3 parts of the BB universe, into perspective, and order, you succeed in telling it as one story. Very well done...
There’s this one like 3 hour recap of everything that I found but it’s in Spanish so can’t watch it
While I Like the BB, NCS universe, I think the Sopranos (which began the Premier TV show trend, making season long arching stories, and moving tv shows away from just sitcoms & procedural Cop/Doctor shows).
The sopranos was just more realistic in it's story telling, than Breaking Bad shows.
In BB, many of those scenarios the people would have been locked up immediately, and the solutions they use to get out of arrests & being assassinated require a real suspension of disbelief.
While in sopranos, they actually get shot, with many Capos & Soldiers being taken out, and some may survive with heavy medical treatment. To beat court cases or arrests, they have dirty cops/judges working for them, which is what happens in the real world.....
While in BB you have them using magnetic trucks to disrupt computers in police evidence lockers, or have Saul pulling courtroom antics that would have him disbarred, arrested for contempt, and fail at getting his clients off Bev the judges would order them to have a new lawyer.
BB requires a large suspension of disbelief, and while it's entertaining, it's not realistic compared to shows like Sopranos, or even Sons of Anarchy, or Mayans M.C.
@@masstv9052 I may be misinterpreting this, but it feels like you're implying the show is "less than" those other shows because it's not realistic.
It's a show about a mediocre white guy with cancer making drugs. Every show is going to require suspension of disbelief and artistic license, especially crime/thriller ones. Again, sorry if that's not what you were saying.
@@masstv9052 you really compared BB to Mayans 😂
@@masstv9052 actually Twin Peaks started the trend of treating a tv show like a movie. Even David Chase admits multiple influences from Twin Peaks.
As far as your BB and Sopranos reality, there's multiple murders that were out in the open, with FBI supposedly watching or bugging phones. If they got uncle jr. and Tony's mom, imagine the stuff they got from the meetings with CAPOS at green grove.
Not to mention Tony Soprano not saying anything on the home phone, but then in the Pine Barrens episode screaming multiple times is there any way the package could have survived and he could be walking into a buzz saw with the mob boss he mentions on phone. Christopher with his loud mouth and killing the writer. Like his wife didn't know it was him.
11:00 Mike opting to get Tuco arrested instead of killing wasnt him being smart. It was him choosing a “half measure” decision solution, a personal conviction that Mike will eventually decide to abandon completely as his character becomes the one we see in Breaking Bad.
The half-measure incident had already happened by then cause it was during the time that Mike was a cop.
Its not really a half measure with Tuco as if he kills him that would bring a lot of heat from the Salamanca which is likely to result in innocent people getting hurt and the 1 thing mike never tolerate is if people "not in the game" got dragged along
Or Mike knew him along with his family would be killed by the Cartel lol
That fake bacon gave Walt cancer . You can't change my mind
Lalo and Howard when Walt is cooking: 🗿🗿
This was very well done. Good work! One thing I thought was crucial and could've been added, at @13:56 the only piece of information missing is that the insurance issue only came to surface at HHM because Jimmy sabotaged it. The fact that he caused the chain of events that led to Chuck's suicide is a seemingly minor but very important detail to his development as a character.
This was shown with Jimmy editing the legal docs at the photocopy store and explained in the narrative about Jimmy's legal defense.
@@ladyincityoflights6449there was no way in hell Jimmy could’ve predicted changing the Docs would lead to chuck killing himself lmao,l
More of a chronological synopsis than a timeline. Starting at the Chicago Sunroof leaves out a ton like Mike killing the cops, Gus seeing Max die, Walter in/leaving Grey Matter (there's atleast a few flashbacks with him and Gretchen) etc. You could even go way back with flashbacks from Jimmy's childhood in his Dad's store, the Salamanca Twins' flashback, there's even a flashback of Walt and Skylar looking at the house before they moved in when she was pregnant with Walt Jr.
true
And Jimmy's mom death
he did reference all of that except jimmys dads store though
The only plot hole overlooked by the creators was the age of Kailee from Breaking Bad to Better Call Saul
I agree. Actually the 2 series are close to perfection
How old do you think she would be in both?
About six or seven years between start of BCS and Mike's demise, so she should have aged from five to 12.
The entire universe was so well explained that even tho ive watched the breaking bad, bcs and el camino i still found new things. INSANE WORK. The transitions between the shows and the movie was incredible. 10/10.
thank you very much 🙏🏻
Gus genuinely had a whole phone factory. every time he calls someone he breaks the phone
I bet Saul still has a phone side hustle to every criminal in abq considering how much they break their phones lol
@@Bob-po2dp right, he probably bought them from saul
Great video, truly a fantastic overview of a huge universe of characters and events. My only nitpick would be that at 6:50, regarding Jimmy’s return to Cicero, I’m fairly certain it was implied to be at least several days, if a week, before Marco has a heart attack, not the next day. Other than that, absolutely stellar ✨🔥
I really appreciate the way you transitioned from BCS to BB to El Camino then finished up with the black and white "current" BCS episodes......your transitions were absolutely seamless, so much that if someone had not actually watched the 2 series and the movie, it would look like you were breaking down a single movie......thanks for taking the time and effort to do this the right way......your work is impeccable
This was amazing. I never saw any of these shows but found the shorts intriguing. The time lines and contexts were impossible to gather but this put the important details of who died when and lots of other important details.
Rip you spoiled yourself a great series
@@charlesdwayne2196 I love seeing/reading spoilers bc I don't need an element of surprise to enjoy something. I have a terrible memory anyway lol. But seriously, I watched BCS and came here to understand the crossovers. I tried watching BB but didn't get past 2 episodes as the violence was too disturbing to me at the time. Not sure if I can stomach it, it was bad enough in BCS, but I got through it bc Saul is such a compelling character. It's also such a long series idk if I can commit to it.
@@helene420youre trippin. BB is arguably the greatest series of all time.
There needs to be a show created at some point about Mike, and how he became a corrupt cop. There can be lots of character development of his son Matt, and tons of adventures Mike and Matt have had as police officers. That alone could be at least 3 seasons.
I want Johnathan Banks as young Mike, no special effects or deaging make up. I want FINGER’s old ass pretending to be younger. At most they can give him a cheap wig
Someone PLEASE sat the very least create this pilot of this… I would for sure give it a go.
He was my favorite character.
Although it's a good concept, it probably won't work from a practical perspective. They could just get away with it in BCS, but Jonathon Banks is too old now to be portraying mike from the 80's/90's. They would either have to use makeup or special effects to de-age him, or use an entirely different actor, both of which would ruin the immersion in my opinion.
@@jto541 I don’t think using a different actor would ruin the immersion. Only one character will change actors. The rest of the characters I mentioned were barely in the other two shows, if at all, so there’s no reason for those characters to change, and new actors will have to be found so you might as well find a new actor for Mike as well. For example, the actor for the spider man movies has changed twice, and it doesn’t really take away from the immersion of the story at all. I’m still able to enjoy all the movies as much as I did for the first 3.
Better call saul has got to be the most successful and effective 'prequel' show of all time. Its a freaking genius strategy as it leads new watchers to the Breaking bad time line and vise versa. I dare to even state Saul was a better story and a better main character to follow as he has a better hero persona and blossoming love story where as Heisenberg had the opposite.
The most interesting and crazy thing about the timeline of both series (which are the same), is that it is so well scripted and put together, that it is full of butterfly effects. One bigger than the other.
I like to think that during all the crazy shit that happens in Better Call Saul, Walter White is just sitting at a desk grading chemistry papers.
Another thing that might have influenced Walt's decision to not accept the job offer at Grey Matter is that he'd be working as a subordinate. He probably would want his share back, but he'd be just another employee with Gretchen and Elliot as his bosses.
This show looks amazing in a letterbox format like that. It makes it look extremely cinematic. It makes perfect beautiful shots somehow even better. It fits the series so well. I wish it was the official format now.
It doesn’t look as good when you’re actually watching the show, I’ve noticed this when watching other shows shot like this.
yea i enjoyed it more
damn, when you connect the whole series like this with a good summary, you can really see how amazing this plot is
i've watched this series twice and I was still on the edge of my seat listening to this
BRO THE LEAD FROM SAUL TO BREAKING BAD WAS SO SMOOTH LITERALLY HYPED ME UP!!
This was the ABSOLUTE GET RECAP OF ANY SHOW I HAVE EVER SEEN! I have been a HUGE BB & (Bryan Cranston) universe fan, (dissecting every episode) but you explained it so well that there were even parts that I missed. Much respect to you.
35:53 -- Gonzo was killed not while hiding the body (he did that right after Tuco murdered No Doz) but when he went back to reclaim the body (apparently for proper burial as he had told Tuco that he had a problem with his friend being left there). I know it's hard to keep things as brief as possible for a summary, but it should not cause inaccuracies. But overall, this was absolutely excellent.
His death was more of an accident than anything.
This explanation of the Breaking Bad Universe timeline is up to Pollos standards.
Amazing transitions from BB to BCS to EC! Thank you for all your hard work that went into this beautiful recap, as we all loved every second of it!!!
thank you for the kind words :)
It's great. Needs to give you occasionally a "in episode 4 season 9 of BB this happens "
How could you leave out the actual reason Chuck was let go (the insurance rates being increased because of Jimmy)? That plays a huge role throughout the series, and even the finale.
agreed, I feel like the Video creator missed that detail, because that was one of Saul's defining moments. He knew exactly what he was doing and ruined Chuck's career anyway.
This should have a lot more views, honestly.

I always come back to this video, can’t get enough of the BCS/BB universe. Great video !
Amazingly well done. This cleared up quite a few questions for me.
Well done. This is fantastic and you deserve way more views for putting this together. You are right when you said in the beginning the Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad universe is the greatest TV universe of all time. Currently rewatching the series in order for the first time as I have all the DVDs. Stopped at BCS after Kim left Jimmy, the time skip of them signing divorce papers and Kim meeting Jesse before I transitioned to Breaking Bad. 41:53 -- Walt was not trying to have an affair with his school's principal Carmen. He was doing it as a distraction (as when he picked up and questioned her about her dog photo moments before) because he knew it was a disciplinary meeting, and also he was trying to get fired (which worked) so he could focus his attention on the meth business.

Forgot that the German builders were sent back to Germany because of Lalo, and also the other person that witnessed Jimmy destroy the tape wasn't Chuck's friend or associate, but it was a private investigator or someone from the police. However this is otherwise a perfect summery, and I still haven't gotten to Breaking Bad, but I know that this is really good and that if I haven't watched Breaking Bad or BCS I would still understand everything happening in perfect order. Such a fantastic video, I loved every second that was explained.
One small thing, is that chuck didn't experience his EMS years after his divorce, he actually started suffering from it during the later part of their marriage and him keeping his illness a secret from her is hinted to be one of the reasons that they divorced in the first place.
This as a redub from Jimmy, Walter and Jesse's own voices in first person would make the perfect movie.

One nitpick... When Saul has Francesca call Hank to get him away from the RV, she doesn't pretend to be a hospital employee, like you said. She calls and says "This is Officer Elaine Tanner with the Albuquerque Police Department." Details, man!
Wow! That was a lot! Thank you for doing this….I had forgotten most of this. May have to watch all for a third time!

Walter really destroyed the life of everyone in his life.
The fact that a depressed father with cancer destroyed the entire meth business empire before the cops does, makes it hilariously uncanny.
trade-off: innocent people are killed and traumatised/cartel gone
Actually, you streamlined this really well for me watching BB then BCS over a long period made me forget small things.
