Nice to be able to hear "nature" in the background, splashing of the water, squishing of the mud, and so forth. No loud engine drowning out nature, is a whole different experience.
@@fedorp4713 I must admit that I had not noticed the pwm noise, so I have just replayed the video, with headhones and the volume turned up. While I could make out some sound at low speeds and hard acceleration, it was most definitely not loud.
Eric Knighton I used my friends, then I got free supercharger, it’s a bit better deal ... I’m European, so we get more from local referrals most of the time :)
What ij this video made you order a Model Y? It's exceptional off road capabilities? 😂😂😂😂😂 You could literally use any normal awd car with proper tires on this... A Subaru would be flying through here... Nothing against the Y, but it doesn't do anything here, that ANY normal car wouldn't do with the proper tires, even without the extra modding on the Y. Good luck though with your purchase and safe driving.
You're getting me hyped up for Cybertruck again. I've said it before I'll say it again. This is the closest Modded Tesla we have to Cybertruck until Cybertruck comes out.
Since this Y is now an overlander, I think adding a rubber rail to the back bumper would be appropriate. It would protrude beyond the trunk lid to avoid damage there. This rubber rail could take on any number of form factors but, if it paralleled the edge of the black area on the existing bumper, right next to it, it could complement the design.
Interesting - hitting a reasonable vertical tree on a level terrain damages the liftgate, not the bumper. I thought that was what bumpers were for. Interesting design choice...
Loved seeing the abilities of the Model Y Performance... Could I please ask what offset your MW03's are please and the dimensions of your AT3's.... Great video, thanks for sharing. Cheers
I cringed when you hit that tree. But that’s what I’m talking about with off roading. Love your videos and hope that bumper doesn’t cost to much to fix lol. Keep them coming Brian.
Time to take your Model Y to Stellarbuilt and have them make a front high-clearance winch bumper and rear high-clearance tire carrier. 👌 They'll do it too!
Excellent job pushing the limits! Thank you for sharing, It's a lot of work to document this well and you are making beautiful videos. A possible concern on the battery underside: The sheet metal bottom is not terribly thick and I hear the allowable deformation from damage before needing a new battery is 5mm to 8mm. I've seen one beyond that from transport damage, kinda sad. Clearly the load was distributed when you high sided on the hill but I would not want to try that manouver in rocky soils. Meanwhile, if you come up with a way to reinforce that, I'll be taking notes for my Tesfalia swap. ❤️ Thanks again and have fun!
Luck that you didn't damage the undercarriage or the battery where you almost got stuck. If that happened with the Cybertruck, you would have had ZERO damage.
Wow u have to get the cybertruck, it’s amazing! (Not for looks, Nissan Titan warrior is the best looking truck, in my opinion) U should definitely get the cybertruck and mod it just like this! Here’s some ideas: 4 inch lift? 37 inch tires? Winch? Roof rack? Snorkel?( I dunno if u can install snorkel on electric cars) Some aggressive tires? AND A WHOLE LOTTA FUN!!! 🤩
I'm ordering a Y in a week. Maybe will do some light dirt road stuff. Have an order in for CyberTruck, I think that will be my off roader. Thanks for the videos.
You are bottoming out. Maybe custom skid plates so you don't catch wood or break off pieces. Maybe something that can be removed for street driving and added, like the wheels and tires, when going off road. Dragging suspension parts on rocks doing the speed you were doing is going to break something. In the end video you can see bottom molding coming off. I think it works but not at the speeds you are doing. 12:09 bottom door molding coming off.
Awesome work man, I did similar things to my Model Y I think I have quarter inch higher (tire size comparison) then your spec wise, but let’s do it man, we should make Ev Trail runners or EV off roaders group 😀 count me in
Just awesome. come on, do a Air suspension for off-roading. This might keep the ride suspension at the level where you won't lose range and only raise when is needed. great videos
could you fab a bumper protector that attaches to the tow hitch? also the part that fell off for other off road vehicles the have metal protectors, it's basically a piece of of metal attached with u bolts to the lower arm.
Love what you have done with the car! Makes me want to trade my Model 3 in for a Y and do the same thing you have done. Might have to put the Cybertruck on the back burner for a while. Can you take it on the beach through some soft sand to see how it performs?
Hey Brian. I just discovered your vids and love them. I also happen to be local to you. Any way you could share that location? Would love to play around in my CR-V there... Not many fun trails near me inside the I-485 circle...
My brand new Model Y was slipping in clay/mud. The road wasn’t too long but I definitely felt the car was slipping/out of control. I was going very slow and had to steer right to keep the car left. I did not have the off-road assist mode on. I got of that road slowly and ASAP. I have 0 off-road experience and this my first Tesla. I have the factory tires with 19 inch wheels. How do you recommend I tackle the same situation again in the future safely? Thanks!
Can someone tell me how it rides on rutted dirt roads? I’ve heard the suspension is a little too firm. Not looking to do the Paris to Dacar rally but some longish dirt roads in Utah / CO.
Wow, this is exactly what I’m looking to do. Have a 22 model Y performance. Was looking at the MPP lift. Are those 28” or 31” tires? I noticed the MPP lift is only a 1.75” spacer lift. In another video you said 4” lift. Are you counting the height increase with the tires as well? I have toyos on my F-150 for the last 15 years and love them. I’m looking to make my Tesla more mammoth mountain mountain and off road terrain capable for fishing and snowboarding. Any tips and advise I’d appreciate
Ground clearance and suspension articulation are going to be the primary issues with this car. As long as you can keep all 4 tires touching down traction isn't a problem. It's unlikely that you'll be able to get lockers for the diffs because they are integral to the power unit and unique to Tesla. I wonder if the Tesla braking system allows individual control over each corner. I tend to doubt it. The only way to solve having one wheel in the air and high centering is with some serious suspension mods including a really serious ride height lift. But as long as you don't try rock crawling and stick to situations that don't exceed your ground clearance there's not much that will keep you from going wherever you want to go. After all, overlanding is about getting to a destination and enjoying the trip. Rock crawling and serious 4x4-ing have nothing to do with getting to a destination, they're about overcoming challenges just for the sake of it. The views are incidental bonuses.
Nice to be able to hear "nature" in the background, splashing of the water, squishing of the mud, and so forth. No loud engine drowning out nature, is a whole different experience.
Well said!
If you can't hear the insanely loud pulse width modulation at low speeds, you need to get your ears checked.
@@fedorp4713 I must admit that I had not noticed the pwm noise, so I have just replayed the video, with headhones and the volume turned up. While I could make out some sound at low speeds and hard acceleration, it was most definitely not loud.
Or smell any stinky diesel fumes.
I want to enjoy the environment don’t talk to me about nature.

TESLA model 3 was the FASTEST Rally car at TARGA Rally in Australia, 4 minutes Faster than a GAS car.

Interesting - hitting a reasonable vertical tree on a level terrain damages the liftgate, not the bumper. I thought that was what bumpers were for. Interesting design choice...
JK W the lift gate is integrated into the bumper 3:11. Most other crossovers with a hatch would not have had this damage.
It's designed for easy loading not bumping into things.
@@T1Oracle Bumper is not designed for bumping into things? Interesting. It seems to be designed for high repair costs...
What an awesome build, my friend. Keep having fun. Sorry about the crash with the tree.
Thank you for the kind words friend! It is all worth it.
Tis but a flesh wound! Your video just popped up 4 years later……a very capable Model Y…..Thanks for the ride.
I mean, a 2" or 3" lift would make SUCH a huge difference for this thing off road.
