    This was one of the clearest, most well-videoed TH-cam video I've ever watched. Everything was clear, well explained. I had absolutely no questions. I watched it through once to be sure that I wanted to undertake the project, then I bought the same SSD (2TB) and Torx tools on Amazon. As I did the work, I keep stopping and playing the video back step by step. Going slowly, the entire upgrade took a little over an hour.
    The one thing I figured out on my own was to get a plastic box with multiple wells, suitable for storing each set of screws in a separate well. I wrote down what each group was for so that I never had to guess. It make the whole process much less stressful.

    Just wanted to say thank you for this video - I know changing the RAM isn't rocket science, but I'd never done it on a Mini before and was glad to see someone going through it. I've installed the full 16GB allowance and it's working like a dream. Thanks again!!

    Very helpful. It made the job reasonably easy. I might add that newer SSD are now as thin or thinner than the original drive. Thus, they easily fit in but are a bit tricky to get in the exact position. I found that standing the computer on end and letting gravity help made the job easier. Also, because of the thin drive, a tool such as a flat screwdriver is needed under the drive to hold it up when putting in the two mounting screws on top of the antenna grill.

    If you are using this with the newest Mac mini you do not have to make the drive bootable you can start up into internet recovery by holding down the option key at boot and than connecting to your wifi.

    Excellent Guide. I have gone through so many guides earlier but this guide explains the handling of connectors so beautifully. I request you to make another guide to explain how to replace the drive in the lower bay. In my Mac Mini (Late 2012) the HDD is in the lower bay, which may involve a lot more effort than what is shown here. I guess Apple loves to make things harder for the DIY enthusiasts.

    Your video is so clear and lots of needed cautions! I've been computing forever (My first computer was an Apple II -- not IIe) , but not the insides. I just ordered a mini with memory upgrade and SSD bundle from Newegg. You mention a video upcoming for installing a 2nd drive and making it a fusion. I don't see it. Have you made it yet?? Or upgrade his hardware? Thanks in advance

    Posting for a friend:
    I tried it on a 2012 core i7 model and when I got to the hard drive it actually had 2 screws on the side which meant I had to remove the logic board to get to the 2 side screws. I was able to do it but it was not as easy as your video. Once I had the SSD in there Internet Restore was quick, had the mac up and running in 40 minutes.

I have another video on installing the second drive. Also some mac minis came with the upper drive populated instead of the lower this could have been the problem with yours but you managed to get it done, Great Job!

    Finally I got it. It's more difficult than shown at video. The plastic side part goes out but not easily. Antenna grid is almost impossible to reassemble perfectly. I had to leave one screw out, it works perfectly however.
    The business card trick didn't work for me. Instead of this, I just put the macmini vertically, inserted ssd and with the sucker I pulled it until match the two little holes with the screws.

    I tried this process and everything went rather well. The only problem I had was fitting the SSD. I used a Samsung 850 Pro, 1T. I used the credit card trick, but the screws on the SSD wouldn't go into the retaining holes without more than reasonable force. So, I had to leave out the two retaining screws. The SSD fitted better without them. Thankfully, the two screws in the WiFi grill hold the SSD in place.

      CJ Gonzales I understand but I tried for 45min and just gave up I tried everything over and over and deal with computers on a daily basis. Like one of the other people posted I also had a problem with the 2 screws not reaching my hard drive from the wifi grate. • @YepThatsJ
      @YepThatsJ 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CJ Gonzales one change you need to make to your video is that you need to screw the hard drive into the wifi grate BEFORE putting the wifi grate back in. if you don't the screws won't reach the hard drive, at first I thought it just wouldn't reach the samsung ssd hard drive but when I had to put back in the factory hard drive the screws wouldn't reach it either. when you screw the hard drive back into the wifi grate it also makes sticking the hard drive back into the mac mini a piece of cake.

    At this time my next computer purchase will be a Mac Mini. Is is true the memory can not be upgrade? I don't recall where but it was stated the memory in the new Mac Mini is soldered in and can't be upgraded :-/

    OK so now you have an empty hard drive fitted into your mac, how do you reinstall OSX?

    • @techaztech2335
      @techaztech2335 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, you clone your old hard drive to the new SSD first. And then install it. So the SSD will not be empty. Just put it in and boot. There are various cloning softwares in the market (Like "Carbon Copy cloner") that u can use.

      I have a machine that clones the hard drive in a few hours. Called a BAUHN Dual Hard Drive Docking Station. Used it to clone and replace all my disk drives so far. It's awesome!

    Hello, I am new to Mac computers.
    Not sure if you can help me, are you familiar with Mac Format set-ups on SSD for being a regular storage drive? I own a Mac Mini 2012, 2.6 Ghz, Intel core i7, Fusion, 16GB Ram, 1TB storage (Run's Great!). But...
    I want to keep the original HDD as my main OS system (no upgrade) but want to set-up the 2nd bay for the SSD (for my massive storage drive for my Native Instruments Library samples.). Possible?
    Any recommendations for a SSD? Crucial M550 1TB? Or, Samsung EVO 840 1TB?
    If possible, setting-it-up this way, what kind of formatting would I do differently after installing the SSD in the computer? Again, the HHD will remain as is (no upgrade); the SSD will be for my rapid-speed Storage use only."

    You are more likely to win the lottery 10 times in a row while continuously being struck by lightning than to get that wifiplate back into place!

      1st time just about got the screws all back, 2nd time for a new 2tb ssd near impossible, one screw hole on the plate edge just would not line up no matter how many times I tried !

    are you able to put in any 2.5" drive or is it just SSD's?

    • @cjgonzales1900
      @cjgonzales1900  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can put on any 2.5" drive either HD, SSD, or SSHD. As long as it's a 2.5" drive you're ready to go.
