The sequencer is what makes the Modals so usable. I love the Cobalt8 (I have the X and M versions) and this is so tempting. But, the omission of a even a basic reverb seems such a weird choice.
Probably because reverb gobbles CPU bandwidth. The 8 reverb isn't anything special but better if damping is applied. The phaser and negative flanger are really good on the 8. Overall this looks like a good deal but need the 61 keys and would miss the 8 voice poly.
@@tonyn9036 No, it's not multi-timbral. If you switch sounds, the pattern will just play that one. I'd assume the chip is specced too tightly to the demands of one voice to be capable of running multiple instances of the software otherwise there would be more than 8 voice polyphony.
Amazing video! Where did a lot of these patches come from (like Chillout Room, Kevin & Perry go Large, and Making a Replicant)? They are amazing and not part of the factory presets. Google has not helped me find them.
Just ordered one of these beauties. Your talk with Phil was also great. Was good to hear his insights on workflow and architecture of the synth. After being into Eurorack for an age now, patching from scratch on a poly seems odd, but this synth seems really immediate - less diving than a Disting even. Have you done any patches from scratch yet? How have you found it?
great demo. Does the realtime sequencer do more than 16 notes? The one on the Opsix is fantastic but only 16 notes. I don't understand why they do this.
They're not the smallest mini keys you find on some compact keyboards, they're somewhere in-between those and full size! There is of course MIDI input if you want to connect a bigger keyboard (and there is of course also the Cobalt M with no keys at all and Cobalt8 with full size Fatar keyboard!)
Could just be the presets chosen, as it should be a very similar sound - the Cobalt 8 has a little more effects and an extra LFO (and more polyphony) but otherwise they are basically the same architecture!
Woah…. I’m all about portable affordable gear and this is on my list now!!!!! 😮
What a great little synth!
It really is, with endless potential once you get into programming it!
Awesome 👌 thanks for the review

Better to use an effects box.
Specular Tempis by GFI systems sounds like a hit with keys.
Do you happen to know if the sequencer can overdub with different sounds to create a rudimentary multi-track sequence/recording?

Makes sense. Thank you
Sounds amazing I want
Me too 🙏✋Hello from Tallinn 🇪🇪 Estonia
Awesome!

Saved the best for last! HAD to be done and I knew you wouldn't let me down
😅

I would like you to explain how you make those sounds 😢
good video

Is it possible to get a piano or Rhodes sounds straight out of the keyboard out to speakers?
Can anyone please tell me as specifically as possible how to load presets on the Cobalt 5S? I literally can't hear anything out of mine at all
Have you turned every knob? If the filter is turned all the way to the left or the right it might cut out all of the sound.
Mini keys?

Interested, why I have such feelings, that Cobalt 5s sounds more fatness than 8 series?

I'll probably get one in a year or two when the price comes down.
Is the arpeggiator the very same as the Cobalt 8 ????
