As there are a couple of replies agreeing with me, I’ll just add : The UK, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, England, do have a long and shared history. My friend had the England flag always flying , he was reported to the local authority who turned up to tell him to remove it , he never did it was there until his dying day .
I'm currently touring South East Asia. So far I've been to Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea and I'm now in Vietnam. Each of those countries display their flag everywhere and with huge pride, and rightly so.
I've been there and yes public buildings have the flags. But private houses rarely do. And certainly no flags on bloody vehicles. So it is reasonable, none of this stupid uppity that you see in ingurland...
Even 15 to 20 years ago, hundreds of cars, houses and pubs would be decked out with the St. George cross , during every football tournament, now I've seen 2 cars in London and Essex, and I find it really sad. I was born in UK with Cypriot background. At home I have a George flag a Union Jack Greece and Cyprus flag. I am proud of all of them. I often wondered why in UK we don't fly the flag more often except at sporting events. The only reasoning I could come up with was maybe from old colonial days or maybe the crusades ? I must admit it angered me one year when my local authority did not flag the flag on st Georges day flew every one else's.

We often hear the Brits being so puzzled/upset about us Americans always flying the Stars and Stripes. They seem to laugh at the practice. I was born English just like my ancestors.
To suggest that I've hijacked my own identity is ludicrous.
I'm currently touring South East Asia. So far I've been to Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea and I'm now in Vietnam. Each of those countries display their flag everywhere and with huge pride, and rightly so.
No headlines or targeting people for waving them?

yes - I have been to Vietnam and can confirm that the people there are very patriotic. They put flags everywhere
I've been there and yes public buildings have the flags. But private houses rarely do. And certainly no flags on bloody vehicles. So it is reasonable, none of this stupid uppity that you see in ingurland...

Even 15 to 20 years ago, hundreds of cars, houses and pubs would be decked out with the St. George cross , during every football tournament, now I've seen 2 cars in London and Essex, and I find it really sad. I'm Scottish and love my flag, and enjoyed the patriotism that used to be shown in England. It's very very sad !

I'm Scottish, and I absolutely support any English person's right to fly their own flag. It's not racist and nobody else's business.
Trouble is double standards. All these clowns demanding to fly egglish flags would be the first to ban or laugh at other people flying say rainbow flags.... And likely vice versa.
As long as these are the flags that people want to identify with (personally I don't care), I think we should choose one or the other. Either anyone can fly any flag or none at all.

I lived in tooting London 20 years ago. when the euros or world cups were on cars would come past. England flags flying from them. their occupants with England shirts and the strange thing was that some of them even had the English flag on their turbans. are they racist?

It should be against the law to display any other flag but our own Union Flag, or derivitives of it in the Uk, as it is illegal in China to show anything but the Chinese flag.
No, show as many flags as possible: fitting the occasion, of course! Football - all the nations who are participating / school - all the countries the ancestors of the pupils come from / holiday resorts - where all the guests are from / public buildings: who-ever is visiting, along with your own flag (or showing solidarity for anybody, by rising their flag): You don't need any rainbows, if there is more than a dozen differnet flags to be shown🤭

I have a small issue with people showing St George's flag ONLY during football. Why not show it all year around. I know keeping the white parts clean are hard but you can rotate them if you have 2?

The English Flag is a Christian Flag of the Italian Church.
Many Churches used this flag in Italy and Spain
You see this connection to Barcelona, Seville Genoa, Parma, it was a sign of strength and Christian believe in this region from locals and foreigners mostly english fishermen or workers. This tradition was then adopted by the British Church of England and The British Government.
That is because it is St George's Cross, so really is an international symbol.
Also the Red Cross adopted it. Perhaps they want the Red Cross called racist as well!
There is a World Cup in process of football, that's why he painted the house in the George cross, he is supporting his country.

Because the English flag represents English people, Welsh for Welsh etc whereas the British flag is a civic flag. Anyone can be British with our magic soil and free passports but only English natives with a tied history and culture can be English and that needs to be crushed apparently. So, British flags and EU flags are good, they represent natives of nowhere. Fly your flags.

Nothing racist about the English flag. It was originally Genoan and its patron saint was from West Asia who was canonised by Italian Catholics. Its a very multi cultural flag. With a deep multi cultural history.

I was born in UK with Cypriot background. At home I have a George flag a Union Jack Greece and Cyprus flag. I am proud of all of them. I often wondered why in UK we don't fly the flag more often except at sporting events. The only reasoning I could come up with was maybe from old colonial days or maybe the crusades ? I must admit it angered me one year when my local authority did not flag the flag on st Georges day flew every one else's.

We often hear the Brits being so puzzled/upset about us Americans always flying the Stars and Stripes. They seem to laugh at the practice. I guess, as we see borne out now in Britain, they're unable to understand the concept of being proud of one's own country. When they are criticized for feeling that way, they are ridiculed and generally give in without a fight.

National flag is a national heritage. Slander it and face sanction. If you don't like it, don't display it and don't say anything. What I would be curious about would be this : What would these snowflakes want in its place that is of relevance, that is identifiable and desirable ? All good to criticize, but never a solution on the horizon.
