I have a 7.3 FX trek and my story is much the same, the frame is excellent in design which is always a good ride and the bike rolls very well and is very secure after a 70 or 80 KM and so on.
I had to rebuild the bike having paid 400 dollars AUS .New spokes, new crank spindle, new pedals, new hand grips, shorter cranks for my leg lengths thinner tyres, change in gearing ratio for spin considerations, new gooseneck bearings ,2 new seats because struts broke, new rims eventually.4 cassettes
Now this bike is a pearler, I love it because it accelerates well and I can sit up and look around while I'm covering ground. Over 8 -9 years I have rebuilt it 4 times with good hard wear and I don't think I've spent more than 2ooo dollars so great value for money when you compare with other buying.
I put very large mountain bike pedals on it, the type with the butterfly dish in face and the bike is going a whole lot better.
The pedals are very secure, no clip on or caging and my feet are very secure with terrific displacement when loading the crank.
    ACCELERATION PLUS
A great option all day everyday
    Here's to FX cheers

Thanks for the advice on cleaning the bike. Muck is a consequence of riding 100 miles a week in all weathers. The bar ends help when standing up peddling hard up hill (you can pull more on the handle bars) and for a more level streamline position when travelling at speed . However, you need the Trek bar end adapters to get them to fit.

You really should do more regular cleaning of this bike, the gears are filthy. I have had to replace the crank arms but that is it so far on mine, but I am not nearly as far along as you are. Do the extra handlebar grips make for a more comfortable riding position?

Hi! I use two sets of tyres (winter and summer tread) that last about 2 years based on about 3000-3500 miles a year. Cheers.

Hey, pretty late question, but what is(was) its weight (in stock)?

How do you have Disc Brakes? Did you add it yourself? Because on the website, it shows the normal Alloy brakes.

Bearing in mind, mine is the 2012 model, the FX had disk brakes, the none FX didn't.
