It was clear the audience was not impressed with the treasure they had in front of them yet he soldiered on with a truly perfect performance. R.I.P America's ambassador of Jazz.
yeah old school Britain was all about appearances and proper behaviour (for the most part), people didn't find it appropriate to show overly bombastic emotions in public. but still I get what you mean some of them do look a bit pissed off.
Louie and the boys could have gone on for an hour and let it scream for all eternity. I don’t know why I want to just and cry when they pull the rabbit out of the hat but oh that Satchmo!!!!
Remember my father listening his records while he's working. Thanks to that i hear Metallica, Nirvana, Louis Armstrong, Muddy Watters, Elmore James, etc. Musical legacy, i think they call.
La musica favorita de mi hermana y de ahí también mi gusto de escucharla era musica de otro mundo esa musica que llego par quedarse en el gusto de los conocedores las melodías de ayer hoy y siempre lo mejor de lo mejor
Several people have commented on the "dead" crowd. Of course some of them are, but many are not, especially the younger ones. This is a HIGHLY problematic song (from Three Penny Opera) since it obviously glorifies murder, but Louis delivers it in such a dynamic way that you can't help but find it ecstatic - unless the theme of the song stops you cold. So it's understandable why some people would be taken aback. Personally, I LOVE this song - so much better than the more-famous Bobby Darin version, which is more vanilla.
Jesus, I thank you with all my heart that I wasn't alive in these times. As usual, the English look very unimpressed. Today, if y'all see talent like this, you'd pay Big money for it. But we've moved on. So, you can enjoy Stormzy and Skepta instead.
no, that's the English in the 50s - that audience was totally into it, you can see it in their eyes and their rapt attention, but they're so repressed, it's just they dont feel they can show it (with a few visible exceptions). Because that would be Un-English. Thank ghu that's mostly disappeared.
No, the look on their face was awed reverence. You must remember this was a time when the chances of you laying eyes on your favorite artist were slim to none. To be in the presence of not only your idol, but a musical genius, your only reaction would be to just stare with your mouth agape in disbelief.
Remi Cossette The war ended in 1945 and rationing in 1952. Half of London was a bomb site. There was shortages of most food products. Can you blame them?
My old man saw him once when he was shipping out to the Pacific in WW2. Louis Armstrong saw him and one of his buddies peaking through the curtains at the bar next door since he couldn't afford a ticket to go see the floor show on his Marine salary and Satchmo says, "Looks like we got some Marines in the audience!" He invited my old man and his buddy down to a front row seat as his personal guests. He said, "I loves Marines." My old man loved Louis Armstrong but he also loved it when an ex-Marine named Ken Norton busted Mohamed Ali's jaw for making anti-American hate speeches when he was dodging the Draft in a religious cult that murdered Malcom X for saying White people could join it too. As somebody who's lived on three continents and was waiting for my Army retirement orders to come back from the Pentagon on 911 I'm proud to be an American and thank you for your tax money paying for my pension and social security but if you hate America don't let the door hit you on the butt on your way out. Only an idiot sticks around in someplace they hate. Millions of people waiting at the Rio Grand would be happy to take your place here.
My mum and dad went to this concert. My mum is still around. Apparently my dad was buzzing when the show concluded, on cloud nine!
Louis is one of our all time National treasures. A superb musician & entertainer & great inspiration!
The godfather of jazz for sure !!
The crazy thing is most of the people in that room have passed on. Such great music from a simpler time...
PolloLeche you must be fun at parties..
This is Lewis Armstrong . this is the World
Great number from my favorite Singer of all times
stunning performance
One of the greatest "Street Songs" that definitely gave way to "Hip Hop" artists..A eternal classic.
The most important American who ever lived.
Greater than Abraham Lincoln? Really. Nothing like hyperbole.
Most under rated comment ever.
If I had to pick one American, yes, even over Jefferson.
Louis Armstrong was so great!
It was clear the audience was not impressed with the treasure they had in front of them yet he soldiered on with a truly perfect performance. R.I.P America's ambassador of Jazz.
You are not reading the 1950 Brits too well. We didn’t learn to smile until they invented colour TV

They were mesmerised, paralysed and maybe just plain sober.
They appear very impressed to me look at their faces from the very beginning of the video ..To me they show a very studied and appreciative look.
Rewatch the video. Most of the crowd seems to be in awe. Also, the crowd goes nuts at the start of the instrumental break at the end. So there’s that…
,,Mack the knife'' именно 1956года исполнения-самая лучшая,на мой взгляд,композиция Луиса Армстронга. Безусловн замечательный трубач и вокалист.
One of my fab song's of all time!
El mejor que gran interpretación ni sinatra lo iguala esa tipica voz que caracterisa a un cantante de jazz
Louie and the boys could have gone on for an hour and let it scream for all eternity. I don’t know why I want to just and cry when they pull the rabbit out of the hat but oh that Satchmo!!!!
Thank you for making this available for us. Very appreciated by me. In Christ, Dorien de Lusignan

It's funny how to crowd looks all depressed
They seem to be completely mesmerized by the music.

indeed let's not forget the climate of the time
His upper lip was bleeding almost every day...
Not that long ago. A time of segregation. America must be proud.
