    Loved this video! Thanks for setting the record straight. It's very, very obvious that you love Italy, and that your content IS a perfect balance between beauty and reality! I'm also a non Italian living here in Italy, and I always agree with, and relate to all your experiences and observations. In fact, my partner is Italian, and he also always agrees with you. Pls do not pay too much attention to that negativity! It seems obvious to me that the big majority of viewers support you and love your channel. Please keep up the good work 🥰

    I do sympathise with you Claire with the rubbish in the streets. Reminds me of Rome and in more distant times Milan. I can say from my experience that they do get sorted in the end. I think that Romans will continue to experience it for a while to come. As for Palermo I cannot say. I hope for your sake that it will be solved as soon as possible. And for an ex colleague of mine in France who is from Palermo and lives in Palermo. I am from London and I am used to many situations in various parts of the World without excluding London one single bit. When you live in a place far from home, you reach a point where you understand the Italian saying: “ Tutto il mondo e’ paese! “. Wherever you may be that is your home, is as it would be had you not left your home of origin. Or it becomes as your original home would become with time. No matter where we live, we will always come across issues that bother us or that we would like to see changed. This everywhere and anywhere that you may be.
    In my home area in England there has been no bus service for the best of 15 to 20 years just because the road runs through a rural looking place. It is 7 minutes from a town centre and 8 minutes from a London borough. Despite me living in Italy, I am still campaigning to get the bus service back so children can go out without depending on their parents all the time.
    I know the buses are not on time in Palermo but at least they exist. Like where I live in Italy: more remote than my English road by miles but there is a bus service every day of the week and I have hardly ever seen one bus being late. I have had to avoid getting stuck behind a bus on my way to work so I always left before it was due or 15 minutes after it had passed.
    I know that Rome cannot be relied upon when it comes to buses. I only ever take intercity buses and they are always on time. Unless there are traffic issues on that day and time.

      The Italian saying "Tutto il mondo è paese" actually optimistic means that strangers and habits are not that different from each other in reality. That was before mass tourism

    So sorry to see these negatives displayed. It is so true that many people want to live in Italy, but they come here not knowing the tax situation, not knowing the cultural differences, not knowing at least Italian for tourists. They expect everyone to know English; they expect everything to be like their home town in whatever country they come from. Italy is the most beautiful country on the face of the earth, but then there is politics, bureaucracy, temperment, etc. If you come with your eyes open, you will be able to enjoy and handle whatever comes your way.

    People, you have opposable thumbs. You can grab that remote or the back button on your phone and opt out anytime you wish. If you don't agree with the content of this channel, then leave. She is trying to give a realistic, personal view of every day life in Southern Italy from an expats point of view, primarily FOR expats. Saving us from possibly spending all of our money, resources, and time pursuing a "dream" that may not be realistic. Her audience is not for someone who passed through a few times & only desires to visit, nor is it focused towards those of you who grew up there & know of nothing different to compare it to. If you can't say anything nice, for the effort it takes to make content each day, week, month, for years, then leave. Petty simple to me. Yes, I meant to write a typo. 🤨

    That was very interesting. I'm Italian and lived in London for over 30 years. I'm glad to be back, for various reasons, including the sunshine, but there are issues and obstacles here that I never encountered in England. So, yes, it's important to point them out. Also, believe it or not... I really miss the food in London! I almost cried for joy when I discovered a Chinese restaurant in my nearest town, and it drives me up the wall that one cannot find proper hummus and pitta bread here.

    Some stuff to unpack here. First off , apart from the utterly useless "Go back to Britain" comment , the other comments weren't really packed with Vitriol or "mean" , were they?
    If you are going to post a video criticising various aspects of a town , city , Etc , Even if your observations are on cue and above all , truthul , you should really expect a modicum of backlash, nothing unusual there IMHO.
    Furthermore , a lot of the backlash, stems from the content other Expats are churning out , often seeing Italy through "insert the colour of flag" coloured specs , coming up with entitled complaints which that go to the tune of "They didn't hand the change in my hand" or "Someone didn't keep the door open for me". But this obviously isn't the case with you.

    You have lived in Palermo and in Salerno, quit saying Italy. Stick to where you're at. I've heard you say how dirty Italy is multiple times, just where you live. I've been to every region in Italy and it's a clean country almost everywhere I've been, other than a few cities.And you happen to have been in 2 of them.An example Where I live in the United States is totally different than other areas in the United States. Why do you live in Palermo? I just spent 3 weeks in Sicily and absolutely loved it, Palermo was cool for a couple days, but would never live there. You piss and moan about Italy so much I wonder why you're even there

      The delicious irony of a comment like this on a video like this.

      @@MsBritaly I don't want to be controversial, but I would just like to know why you chose Palermo. It's clear that at least since World War II that city has had problems that it didn't have in the past, but had you done extensive research before? Had you toured the rest of Italy enough? I don't know, so I don't want to judge you, but I would like to understand. It is also not necessarily the case that you would not have liked another city in Sicily better: for example, Syracuse or other places.
      Also, to avoid being accused of generalizing against Italy, just stop mentioning Italy as a whole. As you yourself admit, Italy is complex and by no means all the same.

    What can I say? I guess you put yourself out there, whether it be social media, politics, celebrity etc......and you'll attract some negativity....cest la vie! .......as for the positive as stuff. here in Perth (Western Australia), where I'm based currently, people only want to hear that it's amazing, the weather is great, the beaches, bla bla......whatever you do, don't mention the high prices, the lack of culture, the crime, whatever....they don't want to hear it (or worse, you'll get the old "well if you don't like it here you can F- off" line) 🙂

    Actually, in your videos about Salerno, i always think you don't describe precisely a lot of problems of the city lik services' disorganization - municipality's fault, and bad mentality and attitude of the inhabitants. I'm living here for 50 years and it's incredible that in 2024 we are still living, in some aspects, like a jungle. I wish strangers could give us an hand to show all that, for growing.

    Southern italy is simply still Third World in many sectors (respect for the Environment and its own Territory absolutely lacking, "mafia" and silenced mentality - of an Arab/Byzantine nature - still very present, lack of desire to undertake, despite having capabilities, etc.). The people who live there don't realize it precisely because the mentality is backwards. Indeed, he takes offense at those who present Reality to him. Take it or leave it; that's how the South is...

    You divides the world around you in beauty and reality. I think it is wrong. You can divide it in beauty and ugliness. Or in reality and unreality. Both are correct. But if you divide in beauty and reality, it seems that the beauty is just in your imagination and the reality is ugly. I think you don't really think it, but the words you used bring people to understand in this way.

    • @MsBritaly
      @MsBritaly  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      This is an interesting take. However beauty is such because it does exist here. Reality? Well, because this is real life and sometimes there are things that are more challenging, that you need to prepare for or are simply downright sad. I think both words work. The problem is that a lot of people associate Italy with just beauty and forget it’s not Disneyland. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

    If you believe that the people who criticize you "hate" you, then it is logical that people think you criticize Italy because you hate Italy. We know that is not the case, but do you understand the thought pattern?
    I remember your first videos, where every negative little thing that happened to you in Salerno was labeled as "here in Italy". Today, your judgements are no longer so drastic and undifferentiated. You yourself admit that you understand more about Italy now.
    If I were a guest at someone's house, I would not criticize the furniture, the pictures on the walls or their daily life. I do not mean that one should hold back on criticism in a foreign country, but it is important to be aware that sometimes (even if it is not meant that way) it can come across as arrogant and condescending.
    This is not a hate criticism, I'm just trying to explain it from a different point of view.

    • @MsBritaly
      @MsBritaly  8 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for sharing this alternative perspective - of course it goes without saying that if you’re not saying something positive, it can trigger people. I stand by the fact that you can be authentic about a place and respectful at the same time and that it’s really important to do so.
