    The value of diamonds and gold is driven by scarcity. As soon as scarcity is removed, particularly with manufacturing, you actually de-value the very thing you've sought to make money from. Lab produced diamond will eventually destroy the diamond market,; unless ironically a monopoly of sorts is permitted which will over charge for the product - and then your back to an ethical problem.

  • @MikeGush.
    @MikeGush. 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    Ethics aside, They aren't identical, otherwise jewelers wouldn't be able to tell them apart from natural diamonds.. which they can. The slight flaws are what make real diamonds distinguishable.. these fake ones are without natural flaws. "Natural Diamonds have tiny amounts of nitrogen, while Lab Grown Diamonds have no nitrogen." They can change the dictionary definition of a diamond, however in my opinion, only a naturally formed diamond (in its amazing set of circumstances, made over millenia) holds the value..

    Watched this last night with husband and both of us were shocked at the lack of relevant questions, something very fishy, from now on we won’t take the Dragons seriously.
    1-The rings they handed out were £16,000 and others around £6000, but no questions as to how they put this value on them.
    2-No questions about how long to produce them and the process and quantity they produce with time scale
    3- no questions about how jewellers are valuing them in comparison to mined diamonds, and whether they will be selling them alongside mined diamonds and crucially, will they be honest about them being manufactured and not mined
    4- no questions as to whether these would devalue mined diamonds if the manufactured ones flood the market, and in turn theirs would be devalued
    5- using Meghan Markle as an example of someone wearing them is ridiculous as she will take anything offered, notice they didn’t say she bought or paid full price, and on a personal level, anything with her name attached is a turn off for me, I will not buy anything that she endorses or wears
    6- sounds a bit like the way pearls are sold, am I right in thinking that jewellery must say if they are fresh water or cultured pearls, so I would expect to be told if these are manufactured, and I would expect there to be a big price difference, meaning that I would expect these to be far cheaper
    7- something didn’t add up to us, when they were only with give 3% of the business for £250000, and Steven agreed that
    No longer trust this programme, won’t bother watching anymore, their credibility is shot down

HOWEVER, I do hope that companies like this force miners and others to tread much more responsibly and carefully on and in the earth.

      They are identical, real, and are indistinguishable from the natural diamond to the naked eye. However there are some differences, like the natural diamond has tiny amounts of nitrogen, and tiny particulates that found their way into the diamond. These are the main ways a gemologist can tell a natural diamond from a lab grown, among others. The lab grown is perfect in other words where the natural diamond is not! I'm no expert, just curious, did a little research, and I'm certain there may be other differences, but the lab grown diamond is every bit a real diamond, it just didn't take millions of years to develop.

      @@netcalis right but if they are identical and I put to you these 2 diamonds and didn’t mention it , you put them under a scope etc and you cannot see a difference…. @@webapple1because they aren't naturally occurring. So what if Picasso isn't alive? Your argument is that if it's indistinguishable from the original, people should accept it.
      That's not how people think. Even if it's identical, it wasn't painted by the man himself. Even if they're identical, one diamond wasn't formed over time in the earth.

    • @webapple1
      @webapple1 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jonathanarocho893 somehow I don’t think people are buying a Picasso picture because it looks good , its because it’s good and it’s done by Picasso , if you’re saying people would care because it was created by earth … like I guess but at the same time a diamond is a diamond (paintings cannot be an equivalent argument )

    • @jonathanarocho893
      @jonathanarocho893 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@webapple1 exclusivity is why people buy Picasso's. That's exactly why people buy precious metals or stones: because, like a picasso, they are finite in their availability. They take millennia to form and tremendous effort to excavate. If Picasso was amazing but painting 1000 paintings a day, his paintings would be seriously decreased in value. Equally, if the quality was identical but mass produced, they would lose value.
      If their acquisition is no longer rivalrous or exclusive, they lose their value. These aren't principles exclusive to diamonds or paintings. They apply to the value of almost any private good. Any rivoulrous and exclusive commodity could be used as an example.
      As far as the argument for ethics is concerned, a TH-cam comment section isn't where you'll find your answer. The reality is ethics is an extremely subjective field but most would disagree with your assessment of the creation of new industry as unethical based on the phasing out of older industry.
