    I've had one since they came out, they look great and cool well...but IMO the lack of SD card access is a fatal error. You really have to be sure what you plan to use it for because unscrewing it and dealing with the thermal pad is annoying.

    • @TheAnoniemo
      @TheAnoniemo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I was just thinking it was nice that the SD is blocked, because you wouldn't want it to pop out when in your pocket or such. So I think it depends on your use case.

      @TheTurnipKing 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You're probably not paying $15 for a Pi case like this untill you're pretty sure what your use case is going to be. It costs more than the board!

      Wifi power is like 25% of what was without a Flirc case. If you use wifi with Pi Zero this is one of the worst cases you can buy. I had this one for a moment, replaces with cheap acrylic one.

  • @dividion8102
    @dividion8102 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'd be interested in knowing if it'll fit a Banana Pi Zero M2. It's essentially the same form factor as the RPi0, and has much better performance. It's quad-core, even capable of running the very lowest-end N64 games (about like a Pi3). The RPi0 and Vilros cases don't quite accept the BPi0 because some of the components are too tall on it in comparison, but this case might work.

    The zero is promised to be in manufacture for another 7 years, so technically it's on its way to middle age if anything. I know people might expect an upgrade in the future, however these are not designed for speed, and work great for what they are designed for.

    • @ArtemisKitty
      @ArtemisKitty 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I've been expecting an update for that smaller formfactor any day now myself. Nothing too powerful, obviously, but maybe something more akin to a Pi3B rather than a Pi1? Either way, it's still really neat, for sure. Could be a nice little pocket-sized emulator that fits INSIDE the cord-storage bay on the side of Playstation/Xbox/etc arcade control decks. I picked up a PS3/360 one using SANWA arcade parts that used to sell for over $450 recently for $50, and have it hooked up to a Pi4. This gives me a reason to go pull that old Zero W out of a drawer for when I go to events! Bring the arcade with me! Well, assuming things ever get back to where it's safe to go to conventions...

    We really need a new version of Raspberry Pi Zero 2... I can imagine carrying this to office then plugging it in and use it as a spotify machine with monitors I have there instead of android tablet I usually carry.
    Just use more modern chip and give it more ram and maybe usb-c Raspberry Pi foundation! Dual core cpu and 2 gigs of ram would do wonders for this single board computer and it would lead to too much power consumption either.

    utterly pointless thing to me........ it costs over double the cost of the computer....also, no microSD card access is stupid....
    the heat-sinking ability is good design though.....just waisted on a computer less than half it's price really.
    it's like people who buy software titles that are many multiples the price of a brand new PC......stupid to me really.....(they should use open source free software)
    "piapps" and "pikiss" are good if you want to use your pi zero and also upgrade it's eprom.
    true the zero is a slow board.....but it can play 720p youtube via epithany browser.....on raspian
    Pi zerp is a nice board if you use the free "Tinycore Linux" os named "pi-CORE"....which runs in RAM so it is fast....
    Picore has about 900 free apps including full multimedia playback of youtube and music via the "ffplay" tool that is wrapped in the "ffmpeg" tool......on any pi zero.
    pi-CORE also has the "Links" web browser for pulling youtube video links from sites like www.genyt.net. (to watch youtube) on a pi zero.
    pi-CORE's other 900 apps are very nice.....making a Pi zero useful.........pi-CORE also has wi fi drivers....and pi-CORE comes in 32 or 64 bit

    I ordered a 3B+ case directly from them a month ago for a PiHole I'm making with a retired Pi. The thinner pad for the 3B+ had been left out of the box and after asking them they sent an envelope with all of them, no charge. Super nice, prompt, and the case itself feels great once assembled. Just this solid little brick of possibilities.

    Now if only the case had a power button and a battery so you could have a gum stick server in your pocket at all times.
    Personally I want better case options for the zero4u addon for the pi zero since it's a screw on four port usb hub that attaches via pogo pins.
    As a suggestion. if you want ot use the pi zero? Use it with a command line or as a kodi box for local content.

  • @vicviper0017

    I used this case for a while, but had to stop because it was pissing me off. The metal around the ports is so thick, you can't plug anything in tightly. The slightest movement to the pi would always make it lose hdmi signal or power. I eventually lost power enough times to corrupt the sd card.

      Well, they'll have to keep it in production for about 5 years: "Raspberry Pi Zero W will remain in production until at least January 2026". - The obsolescence statement (e.g. raspberrypi.org/products/raspberry-pi-zero/?resellerType=home for the Zero W) states when they'll be produced until, and each of the Pi's seem to have a really long production life (longer than I would have thought necessary!)

    I don’t see this case as being useful. In order to change sd cards you’re going to tear the board away from the thermal pad and I’m guessing that anything that you’d be running on the pi zero wouldn’t generate enough heat due to the limited ram and cpu to justify using this case.

    • @TheTurnipKing
      @TheTurnipKing 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can do quite a lot without nessicarily changing the SD card thanks to the WiFi.
      By way of example, If you run Retropie, it automatically creates samba network shares for rom images, and you could apply the same thing to other use cases.
      And Noobs allows you to have a card with many different distros "ready to go" without changing the card too.

    Great video, doesn't flirc have a case which has IR and RF sensors built into the case so you can receive and/or send signals to work with your non-smart remote devices with a pre installed ISO that works with these sensors or at least the info needed to run it on any Linux distribution?

    You have no idea how happy I am to see screw holes not plugged up with the little rubber feet. I know that it helps with 'aesthetics' but it just makes me loose the dang feet!

    Brilliant little case if you just use the Pi Zero for a Pihole.
    Got 2 for redundancy 👍
