Yes. You should definitely have a fire extinguisher in your house. But you need to be aware that there are different types of fires and different types of extinguishers for them. When you use it, you should point at the base of the fire as that's what's actually burning.

Yes. Look for the A,B, and C ratings so it can safely extinguish dry materials, grease/oil, and electrical fires. Also, stay on top of your expiration date (usually about a year).
A small extinguisher in an easily accessible place can keep an annoyance from turning into a real disaster.

@@Nalopia They do, they're mainly for very small fires that have just started. They are particularly helpful when a flammable liquid is involved, like a grease fire in a kitchen.

Yes, use is much the same idea as the wet cloth you talk of.
We have one in the kitchen, it is meant to be wall mounted but we have it in a drawer which is EASILY accesed.
Also, yes you should get a fire extinguisher.
Get one of those ABC aka multipurpose ones. It's one of those have it and never need it. But if you have a fire you're happy to have it

It is always important to have a fire extinguisher handy and know where it is placed. There are so many ways your place can potentially catch on fire and not even be your fault. Living in apartments my whole life I have seen fires started in one home and move into another home and apparently neither of them had a fire extinguisher so a third person came in and saved the whole building from burning down

I was a wildland firefighter for years. the amount of small fires that bloom into huge ones that could of easily been put out if they had the right fire extinguisher is insane.. there are many different kinds and some work for multiple kinds of fires. electrical, grease, gas all react differently to things.. do not ever put water on a grease/oil fire
yes you should have one. preferably one that does both electric and liquids!!!! works better than a wet towel

@@CalmoOmlac That is so very scary, it can save your house and/or your or someone elses life. And it's not even that expensive. EVERYONE should have atleast one if not two, one foam and one powder.

Usually there's two types of home fires
1. small ones that have recently been lit, and that you know of straight away (usually because you or another resident has lit it) - fire blanket can be used. Fire extinguisher also can be used but creates a bigger clean-up.
2. large ones that have been going for a while - no hope for either a fire blanket or extinguisher, its time to call the professionals
Usually mid sized home fires that fire extinguishers could stop but blankets couldn't are very unlikely because why will you not see when the fire starts but see it early enough that it hasn't become an overwhelming fire.
So personally I would just get a fire blanket.
Others could disagree with me, as fire extinguishers can be very useful anyway.

Absolutely , on every floor. They're cheap insurance. Here is another suggestion, get a infrared thermometer (they are cheap) check the temperature of the outlet if you have alot of electronics coming off that outlet.
Overheated outlets cause fires with in the walls.
I have SEVERAL fire extinguishers in my house (two in my basement shop, two in my garage and one in the kitchen) and one (for automotive fires) in each of my vehicles. Fire extinguishers are very cheap defense against a small fire getting out of hand.

Yes I have a fire extinguisher. You should too. Also check to see when it expires to get it replaced. This video reminded me that i need to get mine replaced soon.
I have a bit of fire safety training. General advice is to have a powder extinguisher in your home. 1 room apartment/studio or house you should at least have a powder extinguisher. Powder is efficient when it comes to electrical fires and the reason is smothering fires. It's also not wet, like the foam extinguisher, so it works well on electrical fires from what I remember. Also having a fire blanket is advised. I don't have any of that for some reason. So I guess I'm a hypocrite but I also know how to spot potential fire hazards. I don't have those. Fire alarms are important too though. Which I have. Good luck!
Get at least one fire extinguisher, but learn the different types first. We have three in our house. One in the kitchen, one in the garage, and one near the fireplace. We also keep a hose connected to the outside faucet, for outside emergencies.
you definitely need a fire extinguisher in the house, i got a AFFF FOAM and CARBON DIOXIDE (CO2) both in the kitchen and the living room as well as the garage.
my oncle was a fire fighter !! he said that kitchen fire is the most probable fire in a house/appartement so since 1996 we have a fire extinguisher rated A/B/C
in the kitchen !
We were working in someone's house and their computer caught fire. Fortunately, we had fire extinguishers in the trucks. Personally, in my home, we have several and they have come in handy before.

Yes I have a fire extinguisher. It is required in our condo's. They even have them in the hall ways outside. The fire department comes by and checks them yearly

EVERY HOUSE SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST ONE FIRE EXTINGUISHER. It could mean the difference between losing your entire home or having a few hundred dollars worth of damage to your kitchen.

Yes, standard equipment for most places -especially apartments but most smart folks keep one or two near the kitchen (usually the non-water variety - Class B or C).
yes we had one, i think it expired , my dad got it after my lipo battery burnt (at the time i didn't know that fast charging a under volted bloated battery was a bad thing) , but you should get firealarm, but i believe there are 2 types and a few that connect to home networks.

Yes I carry a ABC fire extinguisher in my home. One for now, plan on adding a second one. Just keep in mind Nal, even if you do happen to put out a 🔥. The fire extinguisher is a dry chemical, so you’re only covering the fire. Here in the United States you still need to contact the fire department and let them know. Because of the fact that the fire could reignite.

Yes I have 3 One in the kitchen. One at the top of the basement stairs. And one in the bedroom. I hope to never need them but I consider them essential. Highly recommended.

When I was 14 our house burned down. Faulty wiring in the wall behind the oven, no one was home and the pets had a dog/cat door so they were safe too, but that was just luck really when you think about it. You need to be prepared for the worst Amber

I keep several fire extinguishers in the house and one in my car. I never had to use one in my home or on my car but twice was able to put fires out in other cars on the side of the road.

Take the camera to the FD and ask the Fireman about the best fire extinguisher you might need in your home.
I don't have a fire extinguisher in mine, but I'd say it's your choice if you want to get one, just as long as you trust yourself and the equipment in your house knowing they won't explode or catch fire.

Yup! You're really supposed to have an extinguisher on every floor of your home, including the basement. It's also a good idea to have one just for the garage, too.

My garage fridge ice dispenser shorted out and caught on fire!
Had I not decided to watch one more 7min TH-cam video before calling it a night I might not have caught the acrid smell of the fire before going to bed. It would have spread far more before I smelled it in my bedroom assuming it woke me up before it asphyxiated me in bed.
Another time I got distracted kissing on my Gf at the time and do not even remember turning the stove on. Set my best friends kitchen on fire, damn near burned down the house. He grabbed the wok of flaming oil in a panic sloshing it on himself causing 2nd and 3rd degree burns on his hand. This in turn spread the fire everywhere when he dropped the wok and it splashed flashpoint hot oil all over.
Luckly I had an extinguisher on hand both times, I believe they made the difference.
I now live in a schoolbus conversion and have a halon gas extinguisher, I chose the halon over dry chemical type as they makes a huge mess themselves when discharged and it will be one less thing I have to clean up in the event I have a fire on board.
