Incredible piccolo trumpet solo.... real tonguing tour-de-force! and the marimba/glockenspiel passage at 10'10", a real gem. Of course one needs to view the picture to get the full effectiveness of the score but, for all appearance, even an average Schostakovitch still manages to make 99% of film composers (including Seiber) sound like school kids.
17:09 After the Storm, unironically one of my favorite Shostakovich film score moments. Sounds like voices from the grave, with some bluesy tones with that diminished 5th in the melody. Music to accompany something like a post-apocalypse wasteland
