Thank you for this video, I wasn’t sure if G would be too big but now I know. I will purchase my first flute from your shop today.

Charlie, Last March (2017) my then three year old grand daughter, Julia, wanted her own flute. Hands could not manage any of my full size flutes. Didn’t want to give her river-cane at that age so we/she made her first flute from PVC much more durable.
Her little hands really needed to stretch to cover the holes back then but now at 4 years almost a year later she can reach the holes.
    Good video and demonstration brother.

Great video. My wife is the one who turned me on to the sound of Native American Flute, and she has very small hands.

Charlie, this is a fantastic video!👍It is so cool to see your high tone, mid tone and low tone Native American Flutes all at once being played by your son (he looks just like you). To date I have made your A, G and D flutes out of bamboo using the patterns in your book. Could you make more beginner flute playing video as I have never played music before, but would like to start learning? I have been practicing with the D flute on the scales, any help you could give would be appreciated. I have found your book and videos to be very helpful and inspiring, thanks for creating them. 👍🙂👍

I know this is an old video, but I thank you for posting this. My son has been wanting a flute (that I would like to purchase through your shop) and this was incredibly helpful information. Not only that, but I feel confident myself to purchase a lower toned flute from you as well, whereas previously I had decided I wouldn’t get a flute lower that f# since I have slightly smaller hands (not too small) and I was worried anything lower would potentially be too difficult to play. However, based on this video, I know I will be able to “safely” go down some notes ☺️
    Thank you, Mr. Charlie!!!

I probably can't play flutes larger then the G/F#, and have stopped there. (I make all my flutes, and have never gone beyound this size. I have two flute kits of yours I building). This demenstration is the best one I've seen, and just might give me cause to check out one a bit larger. Thanks.

Update... inspired by this video, and talking to other flute players, I made a new Em flute, and my fingers can reach each note easy enough, having small hands. I didn't think I could, but this video inspired me to try. It is now my longest flute. Thanks.

Hi Charlie, When I bought your NAF, 5 holes in pentatonic key of G, traditionally tuned, I imagined that I could very quickly play and improvise.
It was not at all the case and I regretted not having ordered a shorter flute, like the Key of A flute because I could not reach the 5th hole with my ring finger.
Someone in the group suggested I use the Piper's Grip used with low notes on Irish flutes.
After a few weeks of effort and practice, I am almost there.
Wouldn't it be useful to devote a video to this problem and the Piper's grip remedy from your point of view?

Thanks for this very helpful video Charlie. I ordered the high D in aromatic cedar and A in Western cedar both in 432hz. I am sure, I'll love the key A minor.
I would love to hear a sound sample on keys high D, C and B minors tuned in 432hz in aromatic cedar. Do you have any sound samples on them? I don't want to change my order, because I still feel it's a good choice for me to keep a High D for Gospel play but I wonder which would be more efficient amongst your soprano flutes. I really wish you could help me to decide about my choices. It'll be my first time flutes. I never played flute before but I want to play and improvise songs as well as use it for Gospel songs playing.

which line of flutes are these that are good for small hands? which wood is it? or are all your flutes good for small hands? thanks

    • @BlueBearFlutes
      @BlueBearFlutes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

The wood type doesn't matter so much as each flute in a specific key is roughly a specific size. Likewise, if you see a flute on this video that seems to fit my son's hands well, any of our flutes in that key will be roughly the same size. I hope this helps. 🙂

@@BlueBearFlutes ok im getting ready to order, i think im going to get the eastern red cedar in D. you had a D flute in the video your son played, so should be fine. I dont know if there is anywhere when ordering to leave a note so ill ask here, unless its better to message you on instagram? I see it comes with a bear totem, if you have a bear totem that you dont have to put the leather through a hole can i have that one? i like to be able to just lift up a rubber band on the flute to secure the totem while im at home instead of lacing leather each time, if you dont have one like that, its fine thank you. also might get the simple tradions flute in high C, but i dont see a sound sample for that, or i might get the little people flute, is the traditions flute too small for a totem? i went to add the whale totem to the cart but it does not come up in the list of options, and did you say you have an orca totem? i LOVE orcas.
