Disclaimer: This is an obnoxiously long comment, with a good amount of cheese. I will not be held liable for any cringe you experience while reading it.
Day 10: Dream Theater - A Dramatic Turn of Events
Originally, I thought I'd put Metropolis Pt. 2 on my list. I do think Scenes from a Memory is still my favorite DT album and seeing them play it live all the way through was an amazing experience. But I'm not sure how influential it actually was for me, since the friend who recommended it to me told me not to bother with more recent Dream Theater albums, so I didn't...
At least until Mike's "Top 10 Dream Theater Songs" video last year. Since so many songs from A Dramatic Turn of Events made an appearance on that list, I decided to just listen to it all the way through, and I loved it. I loved it so much, that 3 songs from the album ended up in my top 5 most replayed songs of 2019 on Spotify. :)
In a way, to me this album represents all of the new music I discovered over the last year. And man, that was a lot of music! Thanks to Mike's videos, SSFs and especially the SSF streams, I have found more new music in the last year than in the 5 years prior combined, if not longer. I haven't been this excited about music since my teenage metal beginnings. Not only do I get new music from the videos and streams, I'm also much more actively search for new music myself so that I'd have something nice to share, and it's awesome! As cringy as it may sound, I'm grateful to be a part of this community. It really means a lot to me.
So thanks, Mike! And thanks to all of the people who join the streams and make them so much fun. :) Y'all rock!

Yenneffer this is a great story Yen and I feel the same. I didn’t give this album a real chance until watching a live performance of Breaking All Illusions and Mike’s tier list of Dream Theater’s discography; where he had this album at S tier. It’s still not my favorite of theirs but it’s a really good album for sure. And I love the stream as well! I laugh way too much when I watch the stream and it’s always a great time even if it turns out to be a stream where I don’t find new music to love. It’s just fun to be a part of.

Second: absolutely love coming to the streams. And a lot of it isn’t for the music. People like you (I was going to list off a few others, but didn’t want to forget someone, so...), *etc.* are the main reason I continue to show up.

Guess I didn't really post one comment for each album so here's my entire 10 in rough chronological order in my life:
    1. Hybrid Theory - Linkin Park: First album I begged my dad to get me (I was 4).
    2. Kansas' Greatest Hits: First classic rock band I would have called my favorite. Kansas ended up being my first concert.
    3. Alabama's Greatest Hits: The only country music I've loved. The songs were simple but well made. Too bad country as a genre kept disappointing me more as I grew older.
    4. Pyromania - Def Leppard: Yeah, this album was so cool to elementary school me.
    5. Master of Puppets - Metallica: Began my interest into metal, made Metallica my favorite band, and inspired me to become a drummer.
    6. Abbey Road - Beatles: Opened up my love for the Beatles and blew me away.
    7. The Wall - Pink Floyd: Despite Kansas being prog rock, Pink Floyd really opened the doors for that. Discovering this around the same time as Abbey Road cemented the idea that albums could actually mean stuff.
    8. Blood Mountain - Mastodon: Honestly, as weird as it sounds, this finally gave me some "hardcore" metal I could enjoy despite screaming and growling since that normally turned me off. But the musicianship on this album was so good and Mastodon has since become one of my favorites.
    9. To Pimp a Butterfly - Kendrick Lamar: First rap album to blow my mind. I never thought I'd see a concept rap album that incorporated jazz, funk, rock, and freakin' beat poetry and would cause me to think, cry, and appreciate things.
    10. Jar of Flies - Alice in Chains: The most hauntingly beautiful album ever made.

He roasted mgk with killshot but I wouldn't say he "killed" him. The term "kill" is in our vocabulary because Em has a history of destroying careers but in the case of the mgk beef he just gave the Gunner a bigger platform. Hotel Diablo is, by far, Mgk's best album, and it proves that he's maintained relevance after killshot.

    Kendrick Lamar-To Pimp a Butterfly
I personally think it's the greatest hip hop record that's come out during my life. The lyrical content and delivery, the production quality, the incredible jazzy beats with musicians like Thundercat, Robert Glasper, Kamasi Washington, and Sput, features from George Clinton, Snoop Dogg, and Bilal among others, everything is perfect on this record. The societal issues he talks about are poignant and well represented throughout this record, plus the grammy performance he did in support of this record was incredibly moving and pulled no punches. I know DAMN is the record where he won a Pulitzer for the lyrical content, which was very well deserved, but I personally think this one is the greater of the two.

What a coincidence! I was also introduced to Eminem by my older brother :D :D Man I can't thank him enough for that. I love Eminem deeply. 8 Mile would be the most influential album for me. In general I really like his duality about how he struggles to manage his career and family life. He's like this superstar rapper, one of if not the greatest rapper of all time, but at the same time he's a dad and wants to give his kids the life that he never had, and he's struggling to manage it all together. I love that man so much. He's quite literally the soundtrack to my childhood.

Day 10: Judas Priest's Painkiller. My favorite energy in music comes from power metal, and this is the first full album that introduced me to the genre. Painkiller punches you right away, and it doesn't let up with All Guns Blazing, Nightcrawler, Hell Patrol, Metal Meltdown. You listen to it, and it feels shorter than it is, but you are exhausted by the end of it.

Day 10: Haken - The Mountain
Cockroach King was the second Haken song I ever listened to (after The Good Doctor). And what a ride. This was really early after I got into Prog Metal and I was still in that “it has to sound like Dream Theater” phase. Haken really put an end to that. For sure, you can find elements of DT in their music, but they have a distinctive style, from the lighter elements of the first two albums to the heavier direction they’re going with Vector and presumably Virus. And The Mountain sits perfectly in between. Definitely the definitive Haken album and the one that made me really go “oh fuck yes, I love this band!”
    Track Highlights:
    Cockroach King
    In Memoriam
    Falling Back to Earth
    Pareidolia
    Somebody
What a fun ride it’s been. I never really sat down and thought about this before. And if I did it again, I could probably come up with a different list entirely. It might be fun to revisit this in five or ten years and see what other albums are on the list that would currently be under my radar.

Day 10 Album 10: Jane Doe by Converge:
Opeth may have gotten me into more extreme genres of metal but that was mostly select genres like Thrash metal or light death metal. It wasn't until one day where i stumbled across this band called Converge. Metalcore was a genre i originally detested (mostly because of bands like Asking Alexandria and BVB) so finding out many people who detested that genre dug Converge got me intrigued to see what the fuss was about. I checked out their album Jane Doe which was highly regarded as the pinnacle of metalcore and on first listen, while i thought it was too much shit going on for my young uneducated brain, i still found myself liking it a lot more than most other metalcore and wanted to give it more listens. It took a while for me to get used to the chaotic songwriting, screamed vocals and crazy instrumentation but once it clicked, the album truly revealed itself. No other extreme album barring perhaps Still Life by Opeth has made me feel as emotionally stirred as Jane Doe and because of this album, it helped me branch out into other extreme genres like mathcore, tech death, grind and yes even black metal. Thank you Converge. Your work means a lot to me.

    10. Hemispheres by Rush
I thought it would be cool that for the last album I would choose my favorite album ever made. This album is Rush at their proggiest and in my opinion their best. I love every song from this album (which isn’t that hard because there are only like 4 songs). ‘La Villa Strangiato’ isn’t only my favorite song on the album nor is it my favorite song by Rush, it’s my favorite song ever made. It’s super fun and I just love the guitar playing by Alex. His guitar solo in this song is so tasty and gives me chills every time.
Neil Peart’s lyrics in ‘Cygnus x1 part 2’ maybe some of my favorite lyrics ever written...
And Geddy Lee is as always a very good bass player. My favorite bass playing by Geddy is probably in Moving Pictures but in this album it’s still amazing.
In a documentary I heard how exhausting it was for the band to record this album. Which you can definitely hear. It’s so complex! This album feels like a love letter to music. They put so much work in to this so that it sounds as good as possible. Going against the norm by playing what they wanted to play no matter what. An unbelievable amount of dedication and integrity. Man, I love Rush.
I’ve gotten so much joy from this album.
If Mike is reading this, thanks for doing this challenge it was really fun to go back through my music journey. As someone who isn’t a musician, I don’t know if an album can really be influential for me. So I just chose the albums that I really love and introduced me to new kinds of music.

Album #10: Meteora - Linkin Park
I started this with Linkin Park so it would make sense I would also end it with this. Everyone always points to "Hybrid Theory" to where they peaked. But I've always found Meteora to be the superior piece of work. They took everything that worked about their debut and improved upon it in every single way. Thy amped up the energy to 11, wrote stronger and more introspective lyrics, and expanded their sound. Songs like "Breaking the Habit" and "Nobody's Listening" showed us what Linkin Park was capable of. This featured some of their best songs they ever made like "Numb" and features a number of their most underrated pieces of work to date. This is my favorite Linkin Park album and I will love it to the day I die.

Here are those 10 Albums that had a huge impact on my youth or my shaping of musical taste:
    1. Roxette - Joyride
The first touch with music in my life as far as i can remember. It was a tape of my parents and i was so blown away by the beautiful combination of poppy melodies, rocky guitars and the voice of Marie Fredriksson. Still an album that comforts me a lot.
    2. Metallica - S/M
My first kick in the face approach with metal at all and by far the most ambitious live album ive ever heard. The production was over the top, the crowd electrified and pushing and the band at the top of their game.
    3. Rammstein - Live aus Berlin
As a kid i got the video tape of this album i watched it over and over again. I couldnt believe what i saw and what i heard. The dark and gritty vibes with all the white paint, the fire and pyrotechs, the vibes of the band playing live was..overwhelming.
    4. Soulfly - 3
My first contact with "heavier" music. I was completly out of my head i first heard fast tracks like "L.o.t.m." or "call to arms"...that album was pushing me into the darker and heavier void of more extreme (nu) metal.
    5. Cradle of filth - damnation and a day
I remember back when i was 16, i had my little portable cd player walkman and played this record over and over...the concept and constant change of the mods with the whole storyline of the album sent shivers down my spine. One of the most intense albums ive ever heard to this day.
    6. Slayer - Reign in Blood
My friend and me where always competing each other, who got the most extreme album or the better album or who got the highest anticipated album...so he brought this cd to my old home and our jaws were dropping down the floor when we first heard these guitar solos that where faster and extremer than anything we listening before and started banging ourr heads ...that was when i got knee deep into death, thrash and black metal.
    7. Exhumed - Anatomy is destiny
I remember getting my first issue of the legacy magazine in germany and i listened to "Under the knife". Oh my god this album was productionwise so clearly and grispy but still so heavy and driving, i couldnt believe my ears...thats when i ve became a consumer of grindcore, deathgrind etc pp and my life was completly inverted.
    8. Mudvayne -The end of all things to come
Truely, one of the most technical nu metal bands that existed puts out an album consisting of both melodic and demanding songs and i was knocked down to the floor. The voice of Chad was hitting me out of the blue and its still magnificent to this day to me.
    9. Janus - Schlafende Hunde
This is a german band combining elements of goth, classic, electronic, metal, drum and bass, trip hop and whatsoever...the album that really opened my eyes and ears to how beautiful music can be, no matter what genre you hear it all comes down to a good song. And this record has a lot. The story of a brother that commited suicide because of a betrayal and love tragedy is so intriguing that youre getting sucked into it.
    10. Mercenary - The hours that remains
This album is very new compared to the other albums ive mentioned but it gave me a lot of new hope for the metal genre and its newest artists. It has a combination of goteburgh swedish death metal and power or heavy metal elements and the songs all sound very fresh and exciting. Every piece of music sounds very unique and keeps your ears curious throughout the entire album.
Alright, those are the biggest impacts in my life. I add a little bonus list of honorable mentions that didnt made it:
    Hypocrisy - Catch 22
Immortal - Sons of Northern darkness
    Raunchy - Confusion Bay
Machine Head - Through the Ashes of empires
In Flames - Soundtrack to your escape

    10.
I... don’t know what to put here. I find myself in a strange place where the past 9 albums I’ve chosen have done a good job of showing the music that has impacted me. I’ve scrolled through the many albums on my phone and gone through those released by my favourite bands and artists but none of them seem right. It would be easy to pick another pink floyd album or one from a classic rock or metal band that graces so many peoples top 10s. But it would be rehashing older choices. Or I could choose an album from the newer bands I’ve discovered on this channel and others like dream theater, TYS, or Haken. But while I do think they are some of the most beautiful and masterful music I’ve listened to I don’t think they’ve had an impact on me the way they have on so many of you or the other albums on my list. I think I’m going to leave today empty, I’ve barely started learning about music, I don’t know anything. Maybe the album that deserves this spot has already been made or maybe it will come to me 60 years from now but until that happens I just can’t pick one.

Album Ten: “Angel Dust” by Faith No More.
I only in the past year have delved into Faith No More, having heard of them because of people sharing their song “Epic” on facebook, as it was making the rounds of its 30th anniversary. I just decided to give them a listen to at work, and I started with Angel Dust. As the first album. Yes.
The intro track “Land Of Sunshine” immediately sets this album up, and perfectly, too. I was very confused at first. Not because the sounds were “out there” or anything, just by how each song was entirely different but also difficult to pin down on the ionosphere of sound. At first, I liked it, quite a bit. I gave it another listen. Then another, then another and then another. This album was different, but perfect in so many ways.
“Angel Dust” doesn’t sound (to me) like an album that came out in 1992, it feels like it came out more recently. The powerful vocals by Mike Patton are of course, one of the highlights. To melodic singing to downright screeching just shows how versatile this guy really is. Jim Martin’s guitar playing, while not heavy and omnipresent, brings a dark presence on the tracks where it needs. Mike Bordin’s drumming at times sounds anthemic and soothing. Billy Gould’s bass is probably his best on this album, playing into an array of different styles. Roddy Bottum, I feel like, shines the most on this album, through his use of tremendous sampling and keyboard playing, particularly on “Be Aggressive” and “Midlife Crisis”
This album really shifted my perspective on what musical groups can do, especially when listening to Faith No More’s albums before and after “Angel Dust”. It shows that you can change, adapt, and in many ways succeed with different musical genres, something we don’t see (maybe so much in the mainstream) today.
Key tracks: “Jizzlobber”, “Crack Hitler”, “Be Aggressive”, “Land of Sunshine” and “Everything’s Ruined”.

Day 10: Pink Floyd - Pulse
The album that made me like live albums! It’s a ride every time. I went to more concerts after listening to it, and some live albums started to crack my top 10 albums. It also made me a better showman when playing on stage, because pulse made me feel I was there.

Day 3: Genesis - Selling England By The Pound

    Day 10: The Hamilton soundtrack.
I love this musical, a lot. Before listening to this soundtrack I actively REFUSED to listen to musicals. I think I was just being closed minded because I was of the mind that, “metal is the only good genre”. After I started listening to more than just metal, my sister convinced me to listen to this. I went in wanting to hate it, but ended up loving it. The hip-hop and classical fusion hooked me. I became more open to listening to musicals after this, but I still love metal more. This album is one of my guilty pleasures.
Track highlights: Right Hand Man, I Know Him, Yorktown.

Day 10: The Book of Souls - Iron Maiden. Besides Powerslave, Somewhere in Time, and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son being my favorite Maiden albums (heavy metal/prog albums). I think their last album Book of Souls is the proggiest metal album they have ever done. I love that Bruce Dickinson got a chance to put his heart and soul in this album. He really showcased not only his tremendous vocal skills but his compositional skills with the help of Steve Harris and the rest of the band. It must have taken a lot of guts for Bruce to put his chemotherapy on hold so they can finish the rest of the album. I can't believe that it's now been a couple of years since Bruce beat his throat cancer. Rock on \m/ \m/. Practically all the tracks on this album were incredible, but there were 2 that caught my attention.
    Highlights:
Tears of a Clown - Steve Harris's beautiful tribute to the late comedian Robin Williams. My favorite part from this track is in the beginning when they use an odd time signature. Bruce said in an interview that Steve showed him this melody that he played for him, and Bruce loved it. So he asked Steve what it was about, and he said that Tears of a Clown was about Robin Williams, who passed away. That is such an excellent way to commemorate him. I bet Robin would've loved it:)
Empire of the Clouds - This track really surprised me. I can remember when Empire of the Clouds was playing on my Spotify when I was in college getting my lunch. As I was eating my lunch, this song came on. I was so intrigued by the melodic phrase in the piano intro. Once I found out that this was Iron Maiden, I was thinking like... WHOA!!!! This is totally different from Iron Maiden's usual style. Because the piano is my secondary instrument, I was interested in finding out who the pianist was. I was amazed and impressed to find out that Bruce Dickinson provided the piano parts for this song. My absolute FAVORITE part of the whole 18-minute track is the melodic phrasing in the piano intro with the gorgeous musical swelling from the strings. It always makes me a little emotional every time. The part where the build comes in with Steve, Janick, Dave, Adrian, and Nicko brings back that excellent Maiden sound that we love so much. To be honest, I would have loved to hear what this track would have sounded like if they recorded it with a full orchestra.
Please give this album a good listen, even if you're not that into metal. You'll thank me later:)

Been watching these in the background while working from home so didn't have the chance to comment day by day, so here's the list in the order of listening to them.
    1. Styx - Gold : First album I can remember listening to wondering why more of this doesn't play on the radio.
    2. Chicago - Chicago IX: Greatest Hits : My dad is a trumpet player and he was happy to share his favorite band with his kids. I'd say around this time was when the classic rock sound became common place to what I listened to.
    3. Iron Maiden - The Number of The Beast : This metal thing is pretty cool why did no one tell me about it?
    4. Dream Theater - Octavarium : This is the music I want to listen to for the rest of my life. I started listening to more and more metal from here on out.
    5. As I Lay Dying - Frail Words Collapse : This was the first time I didn't hear white noise when listening to more hardcore genres.
    6. The Protomen - The Protomen : When my friend recommended it, I was confused by the constant static from the poor analog recording the band used. Listening to it more and more gave me the appreciation for demos and giving new bands a chance.
    7. Sabaton - Primo Victoria : Power metal slowly becoming most of the new bands I'm listening to.
    8. Ensiferum - Ensiferum : This was probably the first album where I could appreciate growls.
    9. Shylmagoghnar - Transience : I'm giving more and more subgenres a try, and man was this a surprising find. The atmospheric melodies are making more and more sense as opposed to just seeking for faster songs.
    10. Ahab - The Giant : I wouldn't say funeral doom is something I would go out of my way to find, but this album has stuck with me.

There is not a single song that bores me in this album, with this record Zep showed me what is a guitar player. The versatility and the variety in genres that Page demonstrates here is absurd, especially for the time. Truly a legendary album.
Highlights: Stairway to Heaven, The battle of Evermore (I love LOTR too) and When the Levee Breaks.

Day 10 Album 10: "In Absentia" by Porcupine Tree.
This is an album that will always have a place in my heart. Steven Wilson is one of my favorite songwriters, and this album is no exception. The soundscape, the production, and the instrumentation are all spot on, and I still don't think Wilson has topped it. ("Fear of a Blank Planet" has come close, though). Fun story: when I was in the UK for a study abroad class, this was one of the albums I would listen to on repeat throughout the entire time I was there.
    Highlights:
Blackest Eyes (one of my favorite guitar riffs)
    Trains (my introduction to PT)
Gravity Eyelids (has my favorite "breakdown" section in any song)
Wedding Nails (up there with YYZ as one of my favorite instrumental tracks)
    Strip the Soul (THAT ENDING)
Collapse the Light into Earth (the perfect way to end the album)

Day #10 Kiko Loureiro : sounds of innocence , you guys probably know the guy from megadeth ,but I knew him from Angra , in the Angra songs , at the solos you already get an idea of how much of a guitar god he is , but at the álbuns he elevates even more , is an instrumental album , Kiko is heavily influenced by Paul Gilbert and that becomes apearant in the album , he is also a classical Brazilian acoustics guitar player ,at the album he mixes a lot of elements of Brazilian music like samba and bosa nova with a jazzy prog metal instrumental , the guy can play extremelly fast precise and clean ,maybe I’m a little biased here cause I’m Brazilian and in Brazil Kiko is what John prttucci is to the Americans , we all love and admire the guy , but i heavily recommend you check out that album : Sounds of Innocence and the other solo jobs ,you won’t regret, highlight tracks : Greystone gateway , conflicted ,reflective , mãe D’água .

This goes way back to my childhood. I think this is where my affinity for dark-leaning music comes from. The songs are really great. I love choir vocals in some of the tracks. DAY 10: What The Dead Men Say by Trivium
Since I can't think of anything to put here on the last day, how about I go ahead and put an album that I thought is one of the best (obviously temporarily) albums of this year?
It's hard to pick between The Weeknd's After Hours and this album, but Trivium's win eventually because of the obnoxious 80's sound in After Hours that I think it is very tiring to hear at this point in time. Plus, this album is Trivium's most accomplished work yet. So if you have not heard of them before, you should go listen to this album first.

    BRO. Kim. You're totally right.
We must be the same age, MMLP came out when I was in middle school, except I listened to it A LOT. I listened to the edited album that left Kim off, though, because it's what I had, and I was actually afraid to listen to Kim when I had the chance. It was SOOO visceral, I didn't know that sort of thing was even allowed. Plus, if you strip away all the audio and just look at the lyrics, it never seemed as good of writing as his other songs, so I was like, "it gives me nightmares, and it feels like bad writing anyway..."
But that was a naive interpretation. The ends of vs 2 and vs 3 are intentional. The end of 2 feels spacey and disoriented, and that whole verse evokes such a sense of ADD, a racing mind, a conflicted soul... The end of 3 is lyrically sparse on purpose, giving the catharsis its time to breathe, to sink in. I feel like that, as a finale, exaggerates something I hear throughout the whole lyrical composition of the track, which is the simplicity of the writing. There's no fancy wordplay on the track at all, and now I feel how intentional that is. It's so base, so gutteral.
It's also so much more of a performance piece than any other song is. It's basically a skit, like you said. There's little sense in learning all three verses and reciting them for fun--it's all about the delivery. He sounds like he recorded this red-faced, right after a crying bout, with the cracking voice and everything. It's just so freaking unique.
Thanks for the review, this was really valuable, I think.

There are hip hop elitists that do not like Eminem because they can't connect with most of his music. Of course, he has dark and silly songs but he also has songs that showcase love, depression, and triumph. If you can appreciate one side of the spectrum, that should make it easier to appreciate the other side. Eminem is great because if I wanna laugh, let out anger, cry, get pumped up, or just let loose and have fun, he's got you covered.

    WARNING!: long text 🐟
Day 10: Pink Floyd - The Wall: Silly 11 year old me started listening to random songs I found on my computer and The Wall appeared, but I just listened to 5 songs, but then I started to wonder why some of them connected, so one night I downloaded the album to my iPod and listened to it at 12 p.m. with no headphones, as I usually used to do. The thing is that when you are listening while you are falling asleep is really weird; reality mixes with your dreams. Flashbacks from the movie came to me, turns out my dad showed to my when I was little, because he had to paint a helmet with album covers (th-cam.com/video/1cWyFNrGGjw/w-d-xo.html).
I used to read while hearing to music, but from that point on everything changed. It showed me what music could be. At first I thought all PF should have a story.
I am gonna leave it there cause it’s getting to long.

    Day 10 - ne obliviscaris - portal of i
This album....jesus , this should be studied (actualy , two of the songs here are studied in the Sidney conservatorium for composition study) and for good reason.
Everything here is just perfect , the drums ar insane , the vocals from both singers match perfectly together , the riffs and harmonies are influenced from different metal styles and Latin so it creates a uniqe sound that encompasses both metal and shit tones of classical sound ,the bass is otherworldy and the damn violin is majestic beyond belief.
This is just a perfect example of how to take music and elevate it up to eleven ,and ino one of the most ubderrated albums and bands of the previous decade.

Day 10: The Glow Pt. 2 by The Microphones
My favorite folk album, and the one that made me fall in love with the genre. But what makes it my favorite folk album is how descriptive it is both lyrically and sonically. On every song it either feels like I'm sitting in the same room Phil Elverum is playing, or I'm outside in a snowstorm, or I'm snowed in inside a cabin. There's definitely a feeling of being stranded out in the woods throughout the entirety of the album, and I love how the music is able to make me feel that way. The opening track I Want Wind To Blow is a great opener that invites you into the wonderful and dangerous world that is this album. It might be a turn off for some people, because of how sloppy the guitar playing sounds, but I think it adds to the charm of the album. I love the climax of the track as well where that loud percussive sound comes in, and an accordion joins in, and it perfectly transitions into the title track, which startles you with these noisy guitars. The Moon is another highlight with it's loud organ, and the drums cut through that droning organ tone, and these triumphant horns that play during the chorus.
I could talk about the tracks all day, but I don't want this to get too long, so I'll end it there.

Day 10: Nonagon Infinity by King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard
My favorite album of all time. Funny enough, I didn’t like Gizz the first time I listened to them. They were recommended to me on Reddit so I decided to listen to Work This Time since it was their most popular song on Spotify. I lasted about a minute in a half before I turned it off. Thought it was boring, poorly produced, and shitty psychedelic rock. I saw another comment on that site in a different thread recommending the album Nonagon Infinity, talking about how it’s essentially one long jam session songs split into nine songs with the outro of the last song transitioning back into the first song. That concept sounded right up my alley so I thought I’d give them another chance expecting the worst.
I was so wrong. It was like night and day compared to Work This Time it wasn’t even funny. The first song grabbed my attention and utterly refused to let go for the rest of the album. The band used their less than stellar production to their advantage by making the songs more intense without destroying my ears. The composition in each song was engaging and made sure I didn’t zone out at any point. So much so that any time I listen to Nonagon, I have to listen to it twice. It’s the reason why anytime I listen to a new band, I give them three chances before I completely write them off (which helped me have a change of heart on a couple bands I ended up loving, especially Opeth).
Highlights: Every goddamn song. Seriously. If this were the live stream, all nine songs would get 2 +s

Day 10 for my list is Parasignosis by Mitochondrion. It was the most extreme album I had heard when I discovered it in 2015. A lot of it is crushing, extremely dark, disturbing, creepy, and evil. Really kicked me into getting into the more extreme ends of extreme metal. Also worth saying I got into this in a darker point in my life, so I found a good deal of catharsis in how negative this album sounds which mirrored my feelings at the time. Now, I'm unsure if this is the most extreme metal album I've heard, but it's definitely up there still, and as a challenge to anyone who thinks they listen to really extreme metal, I'd recommend trying Parasignosis because I'm pretty damn confident there's a good chance it'll be more extreme than the most extreme metal you had heard previously. Though I mean that challenge all in good fun, just trying to get others interested in trying the album because it might be exciting new extreme metal for you as it has been for me. Plus, if anyone wants to share other very extreme metal albums to me here, I'm open to that, as it's something I'm often looking to expand my knowledge on, and who knows, maybe there is more extreme metal out there.
Previous 9 days are as follows by the way...
Day 9: Imaginary Sonicscape by Sigh
    Day 8: Bergtatt by Ulver
    Day 7: Ensiferum by Ensiferum
Day 6: Hatebreeder by Children of Bodom
Day 5: Somewhere Far Beyond by Blind Guardian
Day 4: Ride the Lightning by Metallica
Day 3: Ultra Beatdown by DragonForce

Was to lazy to think of an album every day, so here a few of my most influential/favorite in order from most influential (kinda):
    1. Siddharta - "Rh-" (An album by a band from my country, my first CD I've ever owned, my first "favorite band" and the reason I listen to rock/metal today, by far the most influential on my tastes)
    2. Metallica - "Master of Puppets" (Pretty self-explanatory, got me into heavier metal stuff)
    3. Children of Bodom - "Follow the Reaper" (The gateway album into more extreme metal genres, couldn't handle the harsh vocal at first, but when I got used to them my journey into metal started)
    4. Vektor - "Terminal Redux" (My favorite album of all time, one of the few records I would consider close to perfect, I even read the lyrics to make out the story and I don't even care about lyrics)
    5. Opeth - "Ghost Reveries"/"Blackwater Park" (Both of these started my endeavour into prog, thanks to Mike

(Pt. 4) Despite the contributions made, Gentle Giant is made in terms of a niche following, as the listen is akin to an "acquired taste", I have learned from the nature of this taste the much broader nature in regards to music: organic vs. mechanic. You are on the side of mechanic (not saying its a bad thing if you are) that wants to keep music grounded, to fulfill your standards of functionality to keep a song nice and balanced( why you don't prefer the mixing of drums and such), to keep all the tones and sounds and junk of the instruments and vocals in certain places. In a parallelistic place to a degree of perfectionism.

Not an album but, Charles Bradley's cover of "Changes." Ozzy's was about breakup, Charles' was about seeing his mother pass away. I discovered it when my mom was passing away from cancer. The pain in his voice ripped my heart to shreds, especially as it became my own pain and grief.

I still remember my introduction to "Stan"
I was going to a dart tournament, ans had to ride in the backseat of a ragtop Jeep, in february, in a snow storm, stuck between two house speakers hooked up to the Jeeps stereo.. And my two teammates/friends up front STILL tried to talk to me......arses :-)
So I heard that album while sitting between two big speakers on a 2 1/2 hour road trip.

Miss Angie - Triumphantine. This is an underground Christian techno pop/electronic rock album from 1999. I know I’ve listed a lot of Christian music throughout this series, but HEAR ME OUT! This album blends the sound of aliens and angels in such a beautiful way. It’s VERY atmospheric, lovely, strange, and honestly kinda creepy. I remember hearing this album when I was between the ages of 2 and 5 thinking about how intriguingly odd Miss Angie’s music was, and I still listen to it.

(Pt. 5) While this obviously isn't made to go against anyone's preference of music, that could be taken more bitterly as we live in an age of perfection with the advance in technology to make music, what I took away from Rick Beato's video on the age of imperfection. TH-cam having temporarily blocked his "what made this song great" video on one of Led Zepplin's songs could be Beatos frustration against the direction music has went.

Day 10(day 7 for me): level 5 - miracleofsound (Gavin Dunne)
Bloody fucking hell do I love this man. I picked level 5 because thats when i got into miracleofsound. Gav relises albums at the end of every year as colections of that years songs. The only exeptiins are the album "metalup" and "vistas", they are the only ones that do not follow the level formula. Gav is a fucking genius. He does all of it by himself, and i dont mean just the guitar, drums and bass, I fucking mean all of it. Some times he'll learn an instrument specificly for a song. I personal got introduced to him trough a pirated dark souls installer, of which the backround song was "you died", Gavs dark souls song. Now, i know songs based on medija are shuned because they arent "crative" enough. Most of those peaple will say that, and then go listen to another rendition of the Raven. Gav makes each song perfect for the theme. Be that a teditional Japanise sound, a Irish pirate sound, a Carrabian pirate assasin sound, a French assasin sound, a Celtic metal sound. What Im trying to tell you is that this man is not boud by genres, at all. You will finde something you love on Gavs chanel, everybody does. Now to me personal Gav is a saint because he set me on my music journey. Because him Im learning guitar, because him Im consuming such diffrent styles of music. Miracleofsound has been a constant source of good and diverse music, trough all my phases, from shity Electronic music to rocker to a metalhead to a black metal elitist to my current whide taste, only he has been with me all this time. Thats why im pickin him on this final day and thats why hes my favorite artist of all time.
My favorite miracleofsound songs(Im not restrictin myself to just level 5): "sirona", "asension", "hell to pay", "Lady of worlds", "fiers fade", "rebirth", "pawns of war", "beneath the black flag", "shadow of the ash", "the new balck gold" and to top it all my favorite song of all time and the only song that I can compare to Mikes relationship with "kim", "wake the white wolf"
