Re: her species - the creators have never said, but the viewers have speculated that she might be capuchin, although there are slight differences (lack of a prehensile tail being one, and the shape of the dome of her head another - but that might be related to the albinism. Since a primatologist hasn’t chimed in, it’s probably a pretty good guess after several of us did a deep information dive). As for where they got her, they never said that either, nor will they ever I’m sure. Ruby appears to have had several handlers, but they have always treated her kindly, although Vui was a bit careless about keeping her confined when she broke her leg. I think she just couldn’t bear to keep her shut up in the cage, which was what was recommended. Ruby first appeared about 6 months ago on the “lovely Ruby” channel, so if you want to see more, start there. But to me, yes, she is the most beautiful monkey I’ve ever seen. The others are cruel - they make the monkeys wear ridiculous clothing, torture them so they will learn to walk upright, refuse veterinary care, feed bad food, make them upset for the amusement of the audience, etc. Ruby is allowed to be a monkey, to be free to climb, has numerous foraging opportunities, and a friend in Dom. They are very careful with her diet. I have never seen them abuse her. She seems happy and well adjusted. And she is truly unique.
