You'll appreciate this track more than others too Chase - lots of characteristics to hang your superb analytical hat on. Can't wait for you to hear it, you'll really enjoy it.
I'd love to hear Chase tackle the Art of Drumming. Even reading full explanations of it it's a struggle to explain it, if anyone can Chase can, but that opening drum pattern is beyond insane.
If you want to react to more of Gojira's live performances you need to check out the concert from 2018 Pol'and'rock Festival. It is posted in full on the Gojira's YT channel. It has the best sound I have ever heard on a live show and there are timestamps for each song so it is easy to pick the one you want to listen to. Check out a song called "Flying Whales" from the show. It is amazing!
Yes yes YES! That show is incredible and has my favourite version of Flying Whales. Another great show is live at Red Rocks. Sound quality and mixing is great and the setting is amazing. Wish I was at both 🤘
@@cooltechnician Same for me! And I had a pleasure to be there in that crowd. Incredible experience. Since then I have been on many other concerts but this one is still my favorite.
Chase, you need another shirt that says 'Yes'...or 'That's Smart'. The drummer's name is Mario a.k.a Evil. Don't forget that. Also, we should talk about Flying Whales next 🐳
I’ve seen them live. Outdoor. It was loud. My ears rang after that. It was amazing. And I have video from the concert and it’s clean. Amazing perform life.
LET'S GOOOOOOOOO!!! So stoked you're reacting to this. I'll comment again after I watch. Bro, that smile at 09:24 when he went from clean to harsh again. 🤘 I could also listen to that one riff for an hour and not get bored. In fact, I think I've just hit back on my iPod so many times just to hear it over and over again. Haha
Tank, I just found and subscribed to you. As a guitar guy, I love hearing about the tech different bands use. Please listen to HIGHER by Sleep Token and tell me how they make every death metal band sound like a church choir. It’s fucking insane.
@@ChaseCarneson just saw that you did that song (higher by sleep token) already. Am I alone in being blown the fuck away by the end? It makes Humanity’s Last Breath sound like Bieber.
I'm pretty sure he uses a technique called glottal compression for most of vocals and as long as you don't over project and use it right, it will not cause damage to your voice.
Best band in metal currently IMHO. For live videos of theres check out "The Art of Dying", "Lizard Skin", " Clone", "Indians" and "The Heaviest Matter in the Universe" all from the Vieilles Charrues Festival 2010.
I saw them live two years ago and as I remember his voice was getting even stronger and more powerfull every song throughout 1,5h set. So, yep, he can hold that :D Awasome reaction as always, keep up the good work ;)
A band it`s been really difficult to get a grip of. Saw them live in Bergen (Norway) 2013. Still has taken a lot of hard listening to really appreciate. . This one "Stranded", probably my fav from Magma. And "New Found" a similar fav from the Fortitude-album. Can't wait for Jan -22 live in Oslo
This song is very sad and emotional to Joe and Mario. It's a tribute to their mother who died during the making of the album where this song comes from, so it has a simpler structure but it's still heavy and dark and easily identifiable as being a Gojira song.
Gojira is definitely one of those bands that grows on you the more you listen. Especially live. Happy to see Stranded on here! Even though it's a bit repetitive.
Theyre are amazing live, and he definitely holds up with the singing. I caught a drumstick the drummer threw into the crowd, so I might be biased on enjoying their concerts :')
Joe is an absolute beast at pitching his distortion point when he screams. I’d never heard quite anything like him, save for Lynn Strait from Snot waaaay back in the day.
They are hands down one of the best live bands I’ve been lucky enough to see. Their sound quality and stage presence is incredible, and yes, Joe’s voice holds up through a full set
Gojira are one of those bands that when I start listening I have to listen to everything. They are so impactful, it makes me feel like I am within the music when they are playing. Thanks for another great video!! Edit: Please check out Flying Whales.
Thanks for checking them out again Chase. I love having their songs in the background while working. Not to intrusive but with the chugging drums keeping you focused. Loved your breakdown. Currently, my go-to songs are l'enfant sauvage and born in winter.
Chase - welcome to one of the major "rabbit holes" in music with Gojira. Definitely one of my favorite metal bands of all time. First and foremost, to answer your question - yes, his voice holds up well live during the entire show. The drummer (Mario) is widely considered one of the best in the entire genre right now, he's insane. Their catalog is pretty large at this point, but there are a few standouts that I'd love to toss your way. First and foremost, "The Art of Dying" and "Flying Whales" are tracks that you'll see the most in the comments below. Both are phenomenal. A personal favorite of mine that is critically underrated is "Oroborus". The entire "From Mars to Sirius" album doesn't have a bad song on it, and its widely considered a masterpiece. Their latest album "Magma" from 2016 is a little less thrash than the former ones and more prog-esque, but this track (Stranded) along with Silvera are fantastic. "Only Pain" is a song that they also play live often and is a staple of their sets. Thrilled that you're checking them out!!!
Great reaction as always! I highly suggest "The Gift Of Guilt", "Global Warming", "Toxic Garbage Island", "Flying Whales", "The Art Of Dying" and "The Heaviest Matter Of The Universe" (I’m sorry they’re all masterpieces😂)
Joe's voice changed his vocal style in live shows after 2017 because of his aging and rest, basically sings some parts with cleans instead of shouting. 2015 downwards he was an absolute demon though.
I've seen Gojira live. His voice was amazing during the whole concert. Fantastic musicians and people, very down to earth. Out of all the 6 studio albums they have, there isn't a single song i don't like. My favorite band :)
As someone who tries to manage on a few teaspoons of energy carefully spread out through the day---- I'm so frikkin jealous of these guys. Its like they're all open portals to another dimension, endlessly siphoning power through themselves , projecting OUT. I'm exhausted watching.
It would be great to see your react to Powerwolf. A music video then a live performance, just to be blown away by his voice and crowd control. Always fun watching a Powerwolf concert. Also they have a song called Resurrection By Erection. And yes, that Erection
I was just wondering when you would do Gojira... and you answered my wish today ! Next from Gojira : I hope you do The Art of Dying, a complexe, deep and intense masterpice. And congrats on hitting 30k subscribers ! Well deserved.
Seen them a few times live and man, what a band! They tend to start with a few heavy rockers that hit you right in your face, no slow intro just full-on blast - I miss live shows soooooo much right now...
my 3 fav bands... UtA, Devin townsend, and totally GoJira ,,, i just love that you react to them. .. cause its gives me vindication that they are top notch!!!!! and i have seen gojira live .. he does hold up throughout the show.. he must have found a way to scream like that comfortably .. thankyou again chase for a top notch reaction.. Take care n be safe .. catch ya next one
Gojira, Unleash the Archers and Lamb of God are my three favorite metal bands. I love how you appreciate first two, please give LoG a try. “Memento Mori” from their new album gets a lot of attention but “descending”, “laid to rest” and “ruin” may be equally interesting as first listen. And again thank you for your amazing work on those videos 🙏
Another great reaction video. I love your reactions. You´re doing great. I heard Gojira for the first time. This band is so amazing. I would say Power and Thrash Metal. I really like this song. Chase, keep up the great work. Rock On and Horns Up :-).
Hey nice video :) I just wanted to tell you that your reactions are some of the best out there because you talk about the music, you notice details. A lot of channels only watch the song and then say: ho well that was nice, thanks for watching ! and that's it. I love the fact that you analyse what you listen to and you bring a lot of good points :) !
If you're re going to do Flying Whales next, please do the studio version so you don't miss the intro. Other great tracks... Vacuity, Art of Dying, Global Warming, Ocean Planet.
Seen'em live 4 times. Joe has on and off days with regards his voice. You can certainly tell the gigs that his voice isn't in a healthy place; he'll really back off the screaming quite a lot and cleanly sing even pieces that are screams.
I saw them in 2008 and i have seen them 4 more times since then and his voice actually changed into that, there were hints of his current vocals back then, but he has actually done more of it now. You should review the art of dying by them, or any song from the way of all flesh. I think you will be surprised by their technicality in comparison to this song.
Never seen them in person but I have watched a few of their concerts and Joe's voice more than holds up the whole way through and he has been doing this for a long time. I dont know how he does it but I love the sound
Gojira are the kings of finding 1 or 2 insane riffs and building songs around that with Joe's intense vocals and Mario's insane drumming. I will suggest Flying Whales again. I would prefer album version but any live version is also super powerful.
Do what the song needs. That's Gojira in a nutshell. All of them play for the song, there is no "arrogance" in anyone to showcase just for the case of showing off. All has it's purpose. And this why they can be simple if they want but it's a lot of "simples" that put together make a great track. From the same album i would recommend Silvera, such a feelgood song or Lowlands as an ambience song. From previous albuns, L'enfant Sauvage, Flying Whales, The art of Dying.
I Saw them just after this album came out in 2016, one of the best live bands I've seen. I managed to get Mario's stick at the end of the show so definitely a concert I'll never forget!
Gojira is epic, the message behind their songs, their strong spirit, their energy.. And Mario is one of the best metal drummers ever! I’m listening to Magma on repeat, Silvera is one of my favorite songs :) They are the pride of France and Basque Country! 🇫🇷 Check out also Russian band Amatory, they have changed their style so many times over the years, from epic nu metal bangers to concept atmospheric electro core. My favorite song from their recent album Doom is Нож (The Knife), awesome rapcore. Also Звездная Грязь (Star Dust) has a melancholic addictive atmosphere
Saw them at Getaway Rock manny years ago...... 2012-13 or something.... nobody had heard about them back then in my circles at least.... fell in love instantly and yes, he does not lose tone or power during the set.... at least he did not back then.... a lot can happen with aging vocals in 8-9 years ;-) That's by the way how I discover most of my most beloved bands. Parkway Drive I saw back in 2010 at Bråvalla Festivalen... same story as above... nobody had heard about them in Sweden before that gig (to my knowledge)...... we need to get the damn festivals up again...... if not for anything else, at least for my sanity
First time Watcher here. Really good reaction you do here. I Like your deconstruction of the technical aspect behind the music you are listening to. Keep up the good Work man! I hope you blow up soon! Too many reactionists just nod and have no clue about music. Glad to see that some still put effort in their Work! Thank you
Me too. Place was nuts, so much energy. I had to ring my tee out on the pavement outside as it was drenched with other people's sweat... That bit wasn't as enjoyable.
Just a suggestion. If/when you feel like listening to more Gojira I highly recommend the Pol' and Rock Festival. The sound mixing is incredible and it gives more "life" to the songs. Their performance of Stranded in that recording might be my favourite ever. Either way. More Gojira always brightens my day. Have a good day!
Réaction intéressante, you had cool comments on the maturity. Joseph trains his voice a lot, you're right about the middleground between clean vocals and screams. He perfected it. Some concerts can be damaging when you have too many concerts in a short time and not enough rest. Gojira have great work and training ethics. Mario trains like a super high level athlete for the drums. Joe the same. No crazy parties with drugs or alcohol. If you want nice clean vocals you have The shooting star, born in winter, low lands. In Silvera there are also clean vocals in the chorus.
@@ChaseCarneson Haha it's true. I had left a comment about your réaction of Silvera. 😊 I check all the reactions concerning Gojira so i'm looking forward to seing your future reactions.
you could react to this full show: "[4K] Gojira - Live at Red Rocks 2017 " its really well mixed. Another one is the " the link alive DVD "if u wanna see some old school gojira show ( also really well mixed )
I was there, 8 years of Hellfest (Until next) - Gojira 2 times there. They are just properly clean and regulars. Hail from Normandy. (Try more Amorphis and Ignea please ;))
The art of dying is a must

Classic Gojira!
Oh hell yeah, those are fire! \m/
"Musical maturity" is a great description of why Gojira are consistently awesome. Great observation.
well, I guess it's time for either Flying Whales (be sure to check out the full version with the intro) or The Heaviest Matter of the Universe
Joe is a BEAST live and Mario is just a machine honestly.
this band is on top of the game in my opinion
just the duplantiers in general are absolute units

Thank you so much for this insight. I actually have Silvera up on the channel already. Take a look at the playlist on my page.
@@ChaseCarneson Haha it's true. I had left a comment about your réaction of Silvera. 😊 I check all the reactions concerning Gojira so i'm looking forward to seing your future reactions.

good review should watch the red rocks live version of this song !
I was there, 8 years of Hellfest (Until next) - Gojira 2 times there. They are just properly clean and regulars. Hail from Normandy. (Try more Amorphis and Ignea please ;))
Great reaction, you have a great ear for music and song construction/production. :)
Yes Stranded. Good choice, great reaction as always :)
The Art of Dying for heavy Gojira is a must, if you want to hear a softer side of the band listen to Born in Winter
If you like drumming you will love Leprous
Great reaction Chase. This riff is awesome. If You want something more heavy try Heaviest mater of the univers.
