@bcsurfandsportvideos I went with the 4 presidents in the 83A formula in the end, thanks so mush for your help it's nice to see even though this video has been out for over a year you're still helping out guys to make a choice! Cheers guys from England!
For the roughs go with the Durian 80A's for sure. The softer duro will help cushion the plethora of bumps, and the larger size will keep it rolling. For slides you could go with either the 4Presidents or the Stimulus depending on your grip needs. For full slidemania check the Stimulus 86A.
I just got into surf skating and upgraded my stock 60mm slime ball 78a to orangutan fat free 65mm 80a and boy was there a difference on my 30in Santa Cruz x Carver board highly recommended!
Check the 4Presidents in 83A if your first focus is downhill. Break those in and they'll be able to break free. If you don't want to bother with the break in, check the Stimulus in 83A. Not as much grip as the 4Pres, but you can start sliding pretty much right away
If you're doing big hills I usually recommend the In Heats for a good amount of grip, and then slides when you need them. You'll need to break them in a bit for slides, but they'll be solid once you're through the shiny layer. If the hills aren't huge you may want to check the 4Presidents or the Stimulus. The Stims are easier to slide on right out of the box. In either case go with the 83A duro.
The 4Presidents will give you some grip for them hills, and you can slide them once they break in a bit. The 83A duro will give you a good blend of hold and slide too. If you've got some big hills maybe check out the In Heats as they'll handle it a bit better. If you want to run a couple different setups check the Stimulus wheels out. Use those for slide stuff and then change it up for carving up big hills.
Held up pretty well for me. It's all going to depend on your style, and how you take care of your gear. If you rotate them often (right/left and front/back) it'll help to extend the life and keep the wear even. If you do all front slides and never rotate your wheels, expect cones fit for ice cream. For your Tan Tien, check the 4Pres 83A, maybe 86A for extra slip.
For general riding and sliding I'd go with the Stimulus, 83A is a good call for general freeriding. For more grip through turns you can check the 4Presidents. And if you plan on shredding some big ol hills, get the In Heats.
I have a 45 in. Sector 9 w/ Royal Trucks and 80a In heat Orangatangs. I love them, I like going high speeds. I can say the In-heats will take you 50 mph safely and securely as long as you can too.
the 70mm size can give you a quicker response than bigger wheels, so you can change direction a bit better. With that duro you can still slide them out, but they still have a bit of grip to them for carving it up.
@WhiskeyRiver9 Thanks for your comment broski. First thing is check your bearings. You should be getting some speed on a downhill with those wheels, and your bearing may need some cleaning. For the wheels check out some of the 86A Durians. The larger size (75mm) will keep you rolling. If you prefer something with more grip, go with the 83A version or go on over to the In Heats for the most grip. Hope it helps. Now get out there and go fast.
The 4Pres will be a little easier to slide on (smaller contact patch, quicker response of a smaller wheel). You could also check out the Stimulus as they won't need to break in. The rounded edges let you break them free right from the get go.
Since you already have the 86A Stims you could give the 80A Durians a try for extra carvy goodness. That'll give you a little wheel quiver, one for slides and one for carves. You could also try the 83A Durians for a mix of grip and slide.
lower duro means a softer wheel, which grips better and rolls a bit smoother on rough surfaces. A higher duro (in the Orangatang line that's 86A) will slide easier, but won't absorb as much chatter, so they will ride rougher on asphalt and such.
@LBcruiser25 if you're mostly carving and cruising go for the Durians 83A. You'll be able to slide then when you want (no break in required) and it should give you enough grip for carving. If you're going to be carving super hard you may want to consider the In Heats. You'll need to break them in a bit before sliding (get the shiny exterior off) but they'll hug the road for those super hard carves.
4Presidents in 83A (maybe 80A if you've got a steep hill). 70mm will give you quick response for freestyle and slide entry, and the hard edges will grip enough to keep you in control on the hills.
if you're doing bigger hills and feel you need a good amoutn of grip go with one of the harder edge wheels, 4Pres or In Heats. They slide well once they break in, but will still give you the grip for carves
If you're hitting some large hills you may want one of the harder edge wheels (In Heats or 4Pres) so you've got some grip and aren't sliding out too easily. Break those in and they'll be slide ready. Check the 80A or 83A duros.
@nos97 if you want to mix it up between carving and sliding get the Durians or the Stimulus wheels. Those have rounded edges which will make slides slightly easier. I'd start out with the 86A's for slides, or the 83A's if you want more grip
In the Orangatang line I'd say the the Stimulus. You can start sliding right away, the slide entry isn't difficult, and they're quite responsive at 70mm. Check the 86A's!
depeding on your board size and roads it would be either the 4Presidents or the In Heats. If your board is about 37 inches or smaller, or doesn't have large cutouts, check out the 4Presidents. If you have a larger board with big cutouts then go with the In Hetas.
it'll be alright for cruising and carving, and due to the hardness will let you start slides a bit earlier. Maybe go with the Durians 83 to give you a bit of grip for carves but retain sliding abilities.
if you're doing freestyle and such check out the 4Pres 86A. Downhill and freeride check the In Heats 83A or maybe 80A if you need decent grip too. Break those in and you'll be set.
Stims will respond a bit quicker. If you doing larger hills or steeps you may want to check the Durians as they have a bit more grip. That way you have enough grip when you want it, but can still bust a slide too.
@TuhermanaProductions definitely 83A. If you've got a board under 40" go with the Stimulus. If you have a larger board, or some rough roads, go with the Durians.
Get a bigger wheel to handle those rough roads. The Durians may be the call here, either 80A or 83A depending on your grip preference. The 86A will be too slidey if you're doing downhill, and if you're going super fast check out the In Heats as they'll have a bit more grip to keep you from launching over the side of a mountain.
generally the 4Prez, the smaller size will respond quicker and make entry a bit easier. Either of these two wheels will take some break in as the hard edges are quite grippy, but once the shine wears off they're good to go.
in the O-Tang line I would go with the In Heats, 83A or 80A if you're gonna be ripping down some big hills. It'll give you a good amount of grip so you can control your ride at higher speeds, and will be slide ready after breaking in.
The In Heats are 75mm and the 4Pres are 70mm (messed up a bit in the vid, there should be a little caption to correct it). The In Heats also have a larger contact area so they'll have a bit more grip. If you're gonna be hitting some big, fast hills try out the In Heats to give you solid speed and grip. If you're looking for quick turns and carves, along with some decent hills, try out the 4 Presidents as they'll respond a bit quicker.
Generally smaller wheels are more responsive, meaning they change direction a bit faster. It'll be slightly easier to initiate slides with the Stimulus vs. the Durians, and for you I'd check those out. Try the 83A so you'll keep some grip in the streets but can still slide them out when you want to.
@JVis56 if you're hitting hills quite often then the In Heats 83A might be your best bet. They'll get slidey when you need it, and more so as you break them in. If you want a wheel that will slide without the break in time go for the Durians 83A. Your stock nineballs might be a little soft and have too much grip for sliding however. It depends on which wheel you have, but most of the time they are around 78A.
@Swiftiezz At 35mph you can pretty much slide out whatever wheel you want. At those speeds you'll probably enjoy a wheel like the In Heats. The harder edge will give you a bit more grip when you need it, but you'll still be able to burn a little speed or slide around a corner when you want to. I'm thinking the 80A or 83A would work best. Enjoy!
Depends on your style. If you're doing mostly freeride I'd check the Baluts. They're out of production for a bit but should be coming back soon. If you want something more "all around" ish check the Stims.
70mm Stimulus are a great wheel for slides. Good control, easy break out. 83A is a good all around call, but if you want more speed control check the 80A's.
@tupperwareloulou really depends on your riding style. For freeriding and sliding check out the Stimulus or Durians, and if you like riding a little faster or prefer more grip check out the In Heats or 4Presidents.
If you have a smaller board, the 83A Fat Frees will be fine. However, if you've got a board that's larger than 35" you'll probably like the Stimulus better. A little larger wheel will help you keep rolling over cracks and bumps and give you just a tad more grip so you don't slide out on every carve.
You're a genius physicist! You should be telling us while spouting some knowledge about black holes and radiation! Fat Frees are a bit smaller than I usually recommend, but you'll be turning pretty quickly.
@izzie833 either the Stimulus or the Durians will set you up good. If you want a bit more grip, and don't mind breaking in the wheel before they slide, you could check out the 4Presidents.
@dillys619 the In Heats will grip a bit more than the Durians due to the harder edge. But if you want a ready to slide wheel then go with the Durians. No worries about break in time or anything
@TheProjectLongboard cruising is going to the Durians; the larger size will keep the roll going. Slide is tricky, the Fat Frees are smaller and slide out easier, but if you're going a bit faster the Durians are more stable.
should be pretty good. Lean towards the 4Presidents when you need a good amount of grip plus some slide ability. They'll need to break in a bit before doing long slides though. If you need set to start right away try out the Stimulus in 83A.
83A is solid for freeriding, and at 70mm gets is a great balance of response, grip, and roll time. 86A will break free a little easier, but you can definitely get slides in at 83A
check out either the 4pres or the Durians. 83A should be fine if you need grip for carves. If you want to do more slides then the 86A 4Pres will get you started.
Stims will be pretty solid for quick response and can slide right out of the box (which is ironic since wheels don't come in boxes). If you're doing some hillls I'd suggest the 80A or 83A duros just to give you some grip when you need it. The 70mm size will also go well with the size deck you have.
@IamTeHe the aluminum core adds some weight to the wheel. They're mainly for downhill and the additional weight will give you a little more grip and a more even wear pattern.
Sorry about the delay dude! I wouldn't go with the 80A version, but the 83A wouldn't be too bad. You'll have to break them in a little before sliding around, so if you want to do it right away go with the Durians 83A
First off, practice your slides somewhere where you feel comfortable. You don't need to be hitting 40 mph to practice, and since you'll probably fall a bit while getting the hang of it you'll lessen your chances of injury. I have a feeling you probably don't want to break in a wheel before trying some slides, so check the Durians 80A or 83A. The won't need a lot of break in riding, but can still give you some grip.
@LoupinMaGiC the stone ground surfaces of the stimulus or durians sounds right up your alley. They'll still grip but can slide out when you want them too.
@Bboy0523 In Heats or Durians. The bigger wheel will keep you cruising longer and roll over most sidewalk cracks. For Duro you should be fine with either 80A for the In Heats or 83A for the Durians.
@feeliiiixx the height difference is really small, but the smaller wheel will turn slightly faster. That response can make slides a bit easier, so go with Stims 86A
@nos97 The smaller wheels turn a tiny bit quicker since they are smaller. Therefore, they respond faster. The bigger wheels keep rolling a bit longer, and also roll over little cracks and such easier. If you want to do some slides on your first board I would not recommend 80A wheels. those are quite grippy.
@TakeaBouw 4Presidents or the Stimulus 83A. Good amount of grip, but slide capable. The 4Prez will grip a bit more, so if you lean towards carving a bit more go with those
Most every board can cruise and carve to some degree, and there's a lot of personal preference with that choice. Some of the more popular ones that could also do some slides are the Loaded Fattail (great for carving and pumping) and Dervish. Worth checking those two out as the flex makes carving and cruising pretty fun.
4Presidents or In Heats. The hard edge will give you the grip you need for the big stuff, and they'll be able to slide once you break them in a bit. enjoy!
It's kind of rider/board specific. I like the 83A Durians for my ride as they give an excellent roll, hold through carves, but they can break free if I want to mix in a slide. If you've got a board 38" or smaller the Stimulus might work better though, so you get the quick reponse (and the board won't look like a Monster truck).
@Cal0221 i'd go with one of the harder edge wheels, 4Presidents or In Heats. It'll give you a little more grip if you're going a little faster and once they break in they'll slide nice. I'm thinking 83A also. If you'd rather start sliding right when you get the wheel check out the Durians.
@FoundJC Dervish is going to be a sweet board for getting started. For learning to slide go with the Durians or Stimulus. The rounded edge will make it much easier. If you want to go up to 30mph grab the 83A version with some Randals, Grizzlys, or Paris with some harder bushings. The stock ones are usually a little soft for that speed.
Most drop through decks are ok. Look at how much clearance your wheels have when you have the board fully leaned over. If you have more than 5mm clearance you're fine, get the heats.
Ok! That is a super low ride, so the 75mm in heats will help raise it up. Check it out before you start riding it just in case you need a larger setup, although that would be vaulting into super large wheels.
Actually, I'd go with the 75mm In Heats. You'll get better roll from the larger wheel, which is always nice when you are focused on cruising. Grab the 80A for the smoothest ride.
@TATobin99 they can slide, but you'll need to break them in a bit to get nice smooth drifts. If you don't mind riding them a bit before that try them out. If you want to get to the slides right away, go with one of their rounded edge wheels like the Stimulus or Durian.
For cruise and carve got with the In Heats 83A (80A if you prefer super grip). For going fast I recommend replacing your legs with cybernetic ones, and using rocket fuel. Might need a permit for that.
@skoolsuxxs if you're going over some tougher roads I'd recommend the Stimulus at least, maybe even the Durians. You'll also get a better cruise as the larger wheels will carry a bit more momentum and roll over cracks easier. Check and see how much clearance you have and see if the Stims will fit
@neverbeaverfree it will help, but it does have a larger contact patch that will give you a bit more grip than the same duro stims. If a rock stops the stims, it's probably gonna trip up the durians too. They're only 5mm bigger, so it's best to get a broom and clean up your ride area if possible. Either way you should be ok with 86A, they'll slide better than the 83A's.
break them in and they'll be solid for it. They're a bit more grippy than the Stimulus wheels, and the harder edge makes it little bit harder to break free at slower speeds.
@Scooterrider1232 that could get close as far as wheel clearance goes. If anything I would go with the Fat Frees 65mm. Check how much clearance you have with your current wheels. That should let you know if the Fat Frees or larger will work.
@Blakeyboii99 yes, almost all skate wheels are a standard size and will fit on almost any truck. Of more concern is your board. Depending on the shape and cutouts the wheels may hit the deck. What are you riding?
@TheZC13 depends on the duro of course, but otherwise they can slide smooth once you break them in a bit. The shiny exterior will wear off a bit and then they'll be ready to rip
Good news is you should be sitting a bit higher up, so less chance of scrape-city. However, you don't want to be wheel biting as that's as wheel bite = bad. Reply back with the deck you have so others can avoid the same problem, and so we can make sure the In Heats aren't going to cause problems.
@MolemanG1 if you're doing a lot of hills check out the 4Presidents or In Heats (83A or 80A if you plan on going fast). The harder edge will give you enough grip to keep control at higher speeds. The only downside is that you'll have to break them in a bit before getting smooth sliding action. If patience isn't your strong suit, go with the Durians 83A to start sliding early. You'll sacrifice a bit of grip but you'll have the ability to start sliding right away.
still great video in 2018, thnx buddy
The 4president are 70 millimetres not 75
Very helpful. But he did say that the 4 President are 75mm and not 70mm.
I got the 83a fat frees, they slide like butter on a bun
@bcsurfandsportvideos I went with the 4 presidents in the 83A formula in the end, thanks so mush for your help it's nice to see even though this video has been out for over a year you're still helping out guys to make a choice! Cheers guys from England!
This video was super helpful. Quick simple and straight to the point. No rambling on. Awesome review. Thanks guys.
For the roughs go with the Durian 80A's for sure. The softer duro will help cushion the plethora of bumps, and the larger size will keep it rolling. For slides you could go with either the 4Presidents or the Stimulus depending on your grip needs. For full slidemania check the Stimulus 86A.
If you're just starting you try the Stimulus 86A. A harder duro will help break the wheels free so you can start laying some slides.
Check the Stimulus to get sliding right away. If you've got some steeper hills check the 4Presidents, the harder edge will grip a bit more for control
If you're doing big hills I usually recommend the In Heats for a good amount of grip, and then slides when you need them. @WhiskeyRiver9 Thanks for your comment broski. First thing is check your bearings. You should be getting some speed on a downhill with those wheels, and your bearing may need some cleaning. If you prefer something with more grip, go with the 83A version or go on over to the In Heats for the most grip. Hope it helps. Now get out there and go fast.
Durian 83/86A will do solid. 75 mm keeps the roll going and they'll carve fine too. Also can slide them out of the box without any break in time.
@LBcruiser25 depends on what kind of riding you want to do. The Tan Tien lends itself to slides and tricks, so the Stimulus 86A will get you set.
it'll be alright for cruising and carving, and due to the hardness will let you start slides a bit earlier.
83A is a good all around call, but if you want more speed control check the 80A's.
the 86A will slide out a bit easier, but it'll hold a bit. If you're looking for a mix between grip and slide ability check the 83A.
If you want a bit more grip, and don't mind breaking in the wheel before they slide, you could check out the 4Presidents.
for max slideyness check the 86A. You could also check out their new freeride wheel, the Balut.
86A will break free a little easier, but you can definitely get slides in at 83A
just ordered orangatang stimulus 70mm 86A from bc surf and sports, cant wait till they arrive
check out either the 4pres or the Durians.
That response can make slides a bit easier, so go with Stims 86A
@TheZuperWoW you can still cruise and carve pretty well. The faster you go the easier they slide so go easy on hills until you get the feel for them.
check out the new Baluts. They've been designed for freeride and can take a few hills as well. 83A will give you a good mix of grip and slip.
Gotta love the Ceviche! I'd stick with the Stimulus, it'll keep the cruise going and you shouldn't have any issues sliding them out. Shred on!
4Presidents or In Heats. The hard edge will give you the grip you need for the big stuff, and they'll be able to slide once you break them in a bit. enjoy!
@fr0zdify assuming they're both the same duro then yes. The 75mm have larger contact patches so you'll get slightly more grip.
The 4Prez are slightly smaller and more responsive, so if you're making a lot of quick turns go for those.
@clincor94 go with the 86A so you don't have to worry about "breaking in" and such. If you do want to go through the "breaking in" process go with 84A
Stimulus 83A's should set you up fine. You could check out the Durians too if the wheel wells are extra big.
I like the Stims in that situation. They can slide right away so you don't have to wait for them to break in. Check the 83A duro.
Actually, I'd go with the 75mm In Heats. You'll get better roll from the larger wheel, which is always nice when you are focused on cruising. Grab the 80A for the smoothest ride.
In the O'tang line I think you'll like the Stimulus in 83A, maybe 80A if you've got a good size hill and want a bit extra grip.
@carlosjtrejo probably purple. If you need a lot of grip and are going pretty fast then check out the orange version
@TATobin99 probably the 83A Stimulus. It'll give you a bit of grip but still slide when you need to
@neverbeaverfree it will help, but it does have a larger contact patch that will give you a bit more grip than the same duro stims. If a rock stops the stims, it's probably gonna trip up the durians too. They're only 5mm bigger, so it's best to get a broom and clean up your ride area if possible. Either way you should be ok with 86A, they'll slide better than the 83A's.
Check out the Durians in 80A. That should be enough grip so you're not losing control, but it'll also let you learn some slide
break them in and they'll be solid for it. They're a bit more grippy than the Stimulus wheels, and the harder edge makes it little bit harder to break free at slower speeds.
Try the stims. The smaller size and contact patch will let you break free a bit quicker
@Cal0221 the Durians won't grip quite as much as the In Heats due to their rounded edge. If you need to stay gripped go with the In Heats
@360freakazoidguy Yes, the stimulus would fit any skateboard/longboard truck or bearing. They are all a standard size so they're interchangeable.
Probably the Sidewinders. The Stims are better for quicker slides, but the winders will be good for slides of longer duration.
@845Education One of the 75mm wheels, Durians or In Heats. 80A will be the softest and feel the nicest while cruising, go orange!
@ranga97 83A. They'll be a little grippy at first but they'll break in to easier slides. And they'll be slightly smoother than the 86A's
