Incredible video. Food for thought: You can only god a base when they reach a certain clan "score", perhaps a combination of piece count, value of materials/items in clan, and tier value of building pieces. Lore explanation: the gods do not waste their time on trifling matters like sandstone cubes.

Oof, unfortunately hacking/exploits is still incredibly bad. Even one occurrence of someone killing you from under your base and looting all your benches via some kind of undermeshing automatic kill button is game ruining. That's what ended my pvp experience in Conan. Not base wipes, not losing everything to being raided, but hackers.

I started playing single player just so I could see the game, and not risk losing everything in a gank. Just playing PvP left me in a sandstone base on noob river because I was too weak to go anywhere else. Now I feel a lot more knowledgeable about the game mechanics, the map, where all the best thralls are, etc. But what do I gain by going to a PvP server? The chance to raid and get raided. Is that really worth it? Now it's something I have to be in the mood for, and I haven't felt that desire knowing all the grind I'd have to go through to get loot from a base, or lose all mine. So like you said in the video, am I more likely to raid people established on the server, or are they more likely to raid me? So what am I gaining playing on PvP servers? Seems like there's not much to gain there. I played a PvP RP server, and that was more fun because at least there was an RP element that made it more interesting than solo play.

    • @weediestbroom

Play pve-c no base damage from players, no raids, but you still get the purge. And PvP combat is turned on so you can get in fights ect with other players. If you find a good private server that has keep loot on death turned on then you won't even loose anything when you die

    • @black_hand78
      @black_hand78 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@weediestbroom the “no raids” part is completely up to the admin of the server. I only play PVE-C and I’m currently on a RP PVE-C that is honestly the best server I’ve ever played on and as long as you can enter someone’s base without force you can steal as much as you want but if your caught the player is allowed to defend their stuff. The admins do allow full on clan raids too (as long as both clans are willing).

The inherent problem with these games is that progression of raid power/ efficiency in gathering resources is exponential and new players get priced out of starting a base. It has been a trope in these sorts of games for longer than conan has been out that its not worth it to build a base, and its not just whiners saying it but power gamers who want to dominate the server.
The exception to this is Rust which is built from the ground up for PvP. If its not built from the ground up for PvP then the "meta" for players in these games is always going to be playing hide and seek and hoping a larger clan who unlocked the more efficient farming/building tier doesnt find them. Its a meta that is not what people had in mind when they got a game where building big bases was a selling point. This was especially bad in ark when you could spend 6 hours taming a dino then another clan with a big bird could come and pick him up and its gone in 10 seconds, and people defended it because "they worked to get to that point". Its not a good excuse when power disparity gets that ridiculous, it kills the game when the winning move is to not engage with its core system.

Conan needs the Diablo loot system or something very similar for gear AND thralls. Inject some randomness and a game of chance instead of the rigid, cookie cutter system that forces you to farm one or two armor sets, s couple of viable weapons and Teimos or Dalensia.
Reduce the time it takes to break a thrall on the wheel and make the stats completely random. No more teirs.
Add a level system for bench thralls.
Add thrall types for every profession. Animal tamers/trainers, farmers, artisans etc..
Make every armor viable via an upgrade system. I like pictish gear. It's obsolete in 5 minutes. I want to wear it through the end game, PvP etc.
Conan is the baddest dude on the planet and he wears fur underwear, leather boots and a necklace.
If I wear that -- I'm trash. If I want to spend my time and energy upgrading my fur underwear to max stats I should be free to do so.
I could go on forever.. 😆

I agree with 99% of your video, with two caveats.
1- if server transfers were naked transfers (and changing your name was easy) then the level 60 creation would be unnecessary. 2- if repairs were "heal over time" effects instead of one-tap-done, then that would alleviate a lot of issues. Especially for drawbridges. Additionally, I don't believe that doors should cost more to compensate for the increased health since you already have to build the doorframe first.

Personally, I feel like the problem with dealing with drawbridges weren’t their health, it was the fact that all damage done could be repaired with a single swing of the repair hammer. This is a problem with all building pieces in my mind but drawbridges are the biggest offenders.

    • @TheBeardyGamer
      @TheBeardyGamer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Well as he explained, it was their health because you literally couldn’t stack enough bombs against it to blow them in one stroke. For other pieces they can be repaired yea, but could be blown up in one go therefore stopping any ability to repair

    • @asuka4901
      @asuka4901 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@TheBeardyGamer True I do understand this but I don’t think not being able to one shot everything in the game is the problem. I think the problem rather is the fact that you can repair any damage done with a single hit. Even on other bases that can have their drawbridges one shot I feel like this would be a better change.

It's the decay timer. Conan Exiles requires too much time invested to also have a decay timer that is so unforgiving.
I would like to see the stats they have on how many (new) players have joined, built a base, logged off, then returned to find everything gone. How many of those players outright quit after a short conversation in global chat? (Way too many.)
That is why the servers feel dead and empty. No casual players hang around. Casual players enjoy Conan Exiles until the exact moment that their base decays. Then most of them realize it's better to spend their free time in another, more forgiving game.

    • @Jaceftp
      @Jaceftp ปีที่แล้ว

How quickly does it decay? If you cant be on every raid window(for most of it too) ur wasting ur time anyway. I just got into the game and was playing 10+ hours a day(no job atm). The first and only time i was off for 2 hours of raid window, i was wiped. With the raid time for me going to 2am, hell no.

    Ez Fix for horse:
    - Give back the additional bleeding effect on horseback for Axes. Axes and Spear Bleeding effect are helpful for farming. Let mace and other blunt weapon deal serious extra damage against raiders!
    - Remove Lances from the game entirely, we already got Spears. Still better than removing horses entirely.
    - The bleeding effect on horses should not disapper at all... Force Player to dismount and wrap/heal their horse to prevent them from bleeding out.
another Option: Make slow effect on the Horse (by Sword, Arrow Hit in the legs) more severe. If people demand realisim that a lance can oneshot a human being than add even more realism to the horses too -> If horse break their leg they need medical aid or die!
    - Make Bow viable against horseraiders:
    a) Greatly Increase projectile speed 100-200%
    b) Make Bows combat more punishing for horseraidier by increasing the damage (after armorreduction) by a few percent.
+ c) reduce projectile damage against people who are holding a shield, meaning fighters on foot will always take reduced damage as long as have a shield in one hand, it doesn't matter if they hold it up or not!! Or give Shields a tremoundes amount of Armor or even armor%+ that only works against projectiles (and Lances!!).

*On fence over barrier to entry. It's actually what I liked about conan. Now I'm deep in dev for my own game(not a clone) and Conan's build tree is my guide. I know the pain, but I loved it. IN fact that scramble on a new server to get your l60 fitout together was always one of my most enjoyable processes.
*Agree on Food Buff. I just eat honey as the payoff for food doesn't make ti worthwhile.
*Agree on tools\weapons you can get with knowledge+cunning without grind. I like to think that I can skip starmetal, steal a hardened steel pick from a random chest and have a crack at obsidian. You just take a cannon fodder thrall to sponge while you put the steel\obsidian in the forge. Disposable work if you are in a rush.
*Disagree on Teimos being one skulled. Down in the swamp\jungle there isn't much else down there of value. I had one thing, and army of teimos fighters and teimos archers. I suggest minor adjustments. Observe lian vs Teimos battles and just balance him out. Agree on levelling. I'm a permasolo and shouldn't have a dozen L20 teimoses
    * Agree on poison. I prefer bleed myself as it cannot be blocked, but the danger of poison is siptah gear which never runs out.
    * Farming with planters can be tweaked cheaply by buffing the seed drying process too output more. The problem with planters is that the node doesn't do a sky trace. So you can grow food in the basement. The trace only needs to execute when you test for ground placement. Same as the test on whether fishtrap is in water. (The water doesn't exist, it;s just a plane with a shader when you are under it.). Easily implemented, no runtime performance cost.
    * If you Think Feroxic is bad, look at the voidforge gladius. Investment to get it is about an hour of farming fragments in the grey ones city (along with a few statues). Pretty much guaranteed at the tower. Massive dmg, high speed, stunlock, poison, can be crafter thralled up to nearly 100, and you can run a shield. Why carry anything else?
    * On PVP in the market I'll answer a different way. I've never PVP'ed every before. I was a Conan single player. The ONLY reason I even considered PVP was because the purge was structured terribly. It;s spawns were stupid, the attacks were nothing more than a line of zombies walking to their deaths. Why can't the purge use bombs, trebs, maybe even a god. Attack at a run, in a group, bigger groups. Don't tell me the AI costs are too high, I'm a UE4 dev have can easily run 100 AI's and still not dip under 120fps (which is the editor max). The purge lore also doesn't agree with the reality. etc. Some much more can be done with this. Wheeled palisades? Purge archers shooting back, etc.
    * On topic PVP, the problem with 'toxic' players are that frankly they are awesome. Here we have GENUINE evil baddies volunteering for the villan role. Hand on heart nothing get my blood pumping more than that feeling of being hunted by a legit baddie. Hide, build up a bomb lab, armour up.... and the fukker gets banned by someone else. Happens every time. NOT ONCE did I ever get my bloody revenge. Official is meant to the the wild west. Team up, alliances, call in rings in from other servers. A clan with a lock on the server is just a huge target. Oh, and I'm a 50 yo IT dude, with a family, awesome career, etc.
    * Agree on Clan Size, but 6 won't work. Smaller won't work either. I was on one one server at one point where there were three 10 person deeply allied clans. They were so confident that they just interated the clan name. The would just transfer gear in to each other bases. The only real limit turned out to be clan politics. I eneded up leaving the server as it was just stale gameplay. I could not fight them, and they seemed chill and left everyone alone too, despite sitting on 1000's of powder and having two dozen lit up alters. They were not even toxic, just every night more than half the server was one mega clan, even with 30 people online they had the majority.
    * Solo perspective on gods. I can't afford bubbles, can just afford gods to attack with but can't afford the tallness of anything but a yog in a compact solo base. Yogs priests for me are impossible to find and I'll have a chest of sets beefore I get one single yog, so they are just tough to use, in particular for any kind of defense.
    * Transfers. Second last playthrough. I was a solo for 3 months on a quiet server. Took a night off. Came back waking up in a farming base. My main was hollowed out just 45 mins before, looked over the logs, check the player list. My solo base was hit by 8 people, 4 were still on. Then 3, then 2. I checked around, another clan responded, they guys were goobers. Couldn't fight, just raid and run. They left behind a vault. So we walled it off and waited for next raid window. Empty. They logged back on at 2-5am and used a series of mule accounts to empty the loot. I want to know where a transferred player goes if they keep this feature. I want to bring the pain back to the players to delivered it on me. Gimme a gps tracker I can invisibly attach to my loot so when someone takes it I can see what server my loot is on.
    * Siptah. I don't sttart on siptah, it's just not as easy too gear up on for me. Plus, soome unlocks need gear from EL. So I just transfer a 99% character over there. Set up a farming base, unlock recipies and transfer back after spinning up a placeholder account to keep pulling in unique resources as needed. Then a third accounts whose' job is just to bounce back and forth running 99% loads. Honestly though, even as a solo I just joined a clan on siptah and we just shared lodgings.
    * If you wipe all servers 100% all at the same minute so I can't recover from bodyvaults... then it won't woork on me. I use 9 body vaults because they are all loaded to 99% and siit in the transfer queue.
    * Multiple accounts. On Xbox, it'll cost me 1 email address and 10 minutes for new account creation + about 45 minutes per account to get it up to a decent lvl to maximse carry load. If PC matches this feature... realistically you'll just see more body vaults but it'll be cheaper. Yes, on console we get FREE unlimited accounts.
    * Offline raids. I'm ok with offline raiding providing I can build in a way that means I don't have to be on 7 days a week as a solo. Wall stacking did that I have new methods that are even more aggrevating for attackers. But, I never want to see offline raiding removed. In fact I ONLY offline raid, I'm a solo and just can't raid without encumb spec+fight. So I respeec during raids as I bypass walls, I respect combat, take out the thralls, then respec to encumb to carry the loot. I enjoy the thievery, re risk of a random logon. Exhilarating.
    * Not sure if regular wipe cycles can work if transfers remain though. Sure, it'll clear out the big old bases but day 1 would be hunger games when all the server transfer pile in for land grab.

On your Transfer Suggestions, having the option just to start at lvl 60 is a fantastic idea. The game itself doesn't really start until you reach lvl 60 in both PvP and PvE. Most dungeons and their rewards are made for lvl 60 characters and the few that aren't have lvl 60 counterparts to the weaker stuff you unlock.
The Isle of Siptah was made with lvl 60 characters in mind in its entirely, Funcom has said this multiple times. Starting at lvl 60 is just a natural progression in getting into the game.

First of all, thank you for the video! Its been worth waiting.
    Second, congrats on the sponsor.
Here are some of my own thoughts on the matter. Subject I didn’t touch simply have nothing for me to add or disagree with:
About poison. As a concept, I think it’s ok to have it as it is, as a second type of dot. The issue lies in its damage and in how easy it is to apply. With feroxic daggers or not. The idea about changing second perk of survival to give immunity to poisons is…. Unrealistic. It would be way too powerful and it would completely discourage any further investment into survival, since bleed isn’t really that much of an issue nowadays anyway. I think it’s more reasonable for that perk to simply greatly reduce poison’s damage. By 50% at least, if not more. Granted, base poison damage should be lowered by itself, to bring it more to the level of current bleed, so the perk would lower it even more.
God bubbles. I think the wisest option to deal with permanent bubbles would be not to change the bubbles themselves, but to add a cooldown period after a god bubble has been used. Like, after a bubble is over, another one can’t be activated for the next 24 hours in the same area, even from a different, close standing T3 altar. This way god bubbles would serve as temporary anti-raid solution, but would not grant complete immunity, as they do right now.
About avatars. I love them. My favorite mechanic by far, and I agree that currently getting them is a bit too easy. Even without sigil of the gremlin, simply having a religious dagger at all time and farming every humanoid npc you come across, slowly accumulates favor without even focusing on farming it specifically. Nerfing, or rather, shall we say, fixing the sigil so it wouldn’t harvest 3 hearts from a human, is one thing. But if the cost would be raised even more and the priest type would be changed to named only, the sheer investment into the avatar should reward the player with higher chance to be able to use the god. I’m talking about the summoning timer, of course. 1 minute is way too high. It should be brought down to 30 sec, or ideally, 10-15.
About server transfer. I think to keep the server transfer of the characters without any loot on them is fine. It’s not harmful to Exiled lands if a person with Eldarium recipes appears on it, since all of those recipes need Eldarium anyway. Yes, there are some exceptions of unique recipes that can’t be learnt on EL but can be crafted without Eldarium, like the Black corsair set, but if they’d simply bring down its armor value and attributes to the level of other light sets, it would be fine. Just an extra fashion choice without any unfair advantages.
A server transfer also should come with the ability to change the character name. That’s more than reasonable.
Also you missed the opportunity of making fun of the fact that of all things that are currently transferable, emotes are not ^^
About the dynamic building damage. I heard about it and I was asking for it myself on the forums at some point. But… I always was convinced that by dynamic’ building damage people implied reduced damage to buildings during offline, and not complete immunity? With raid time system untouched too. So it would be possible to offline people still, it would just cost extra. Immunity is an absolute absurd of course. That’s not an option. But reduced damage could work, even if the % was not high. Like 20/30%. This way if you got offlined you would at least have the psychological satisfaction from the realization that enemy had to use extra bombs to get through your base.

The solution with poison is to simply keep it as a game mechanic where you apply or. No weapons should have auto poison or completely nullifies the whole poison/antidote side of things. Or at least make the weapon applying it not super strong too

No Offline, No Gods, No God Bubbles, No Obelisk Camping
just these 4 changes have gone so far to fix Conan pvp, not perfect, but damn near it (also, horses weren't utilized yet at that point)
It was awesome, playing solo was a real option, people were building normal bases and interacting with eachother, griefers didn't last long as they were either run out of the server by locals or banned as they often resulted to cheating, exploiting and breaking rules when the war didn't go their way

I hate horses in this game but, dor a different reason since I only play single player.. horse riding in conan is more akin to sailing, they are so freaking unwieldy and the turn radius is like six miles wide and trying to navigate narrow spaces is a nightmare and they are absolutely horrendous body blockers.. I only hop on a horse if I need to get to the otherside of the map and I can get there in relatively straight run, otherwise I just jog or run everywhere..

RP servers like Torment have implemented many of these changes, the only draw back is Raid Damage being off until you officially declare a raid which requires at least more work than official servers, still it helps massively with PVP and player retention. Feroxic nerfed, cleansing weapons allowed and dont remove buffs which gives an alternative to crafting and carrying mass antidotes. Variable weapons have been normalized, Draining weapons have been nerfed, some armor has had it's + stats normalized, and much of the food such as feasts, fish and rhino head soup are for sale from NPC vendors.

I really wish they would take a page from rust and do some short wipe servers. A week or a month is too short for conan but maybe 3 months cycles? And perhaps up the exp, harvest rate and maybe boost named thrall spawns a little. Like most official servers are dead anyways, would be nice to see some of them repurposed

I hear you on all the subjects, but the first problem we ran into was actually meshing.. A friend and me recently returned to conan exiles, on our first day in exile lands(we started in isle of siptah for levels, star metal and explosive arrow recipe) we got meshed into outside of raiding times, everything in crafting benches was lost without anything being destroyed.. While we weren't that far into the game, and could easily get back to the same point that just left us with the thought "So if we continue to play and pour hundreds of hours into a server, it can all just disappear in a moments notice without us doing anything?"
The raid times was one of the things that drew us in, not even those are safe now

Veteran pvp player here. Although i agree with most of your points, i am surprised you haven't mentioned a glaring issue with archery in conan. I quit officials around 2 years ago, and now I play conan on private servers such as TarTar with a team of strong players vs other teams of strong players. I do acknowledge that this way of playing the game may not be the way pvp is meant to be played as seen by the devs, but a ban on horse pvp is almost always in place for pvp focused private servers, db repair is countered by rules that do not allow to block all entrances with and etc. These kinds of rules and regulations make pvp fun and playable. In this stripped down, rules dictated and more e-sports like conan the biggest issue for most pvp players is archery.
With a meta archer build one can abuse the bug that allows to partially charge your shot WHILE in a roll. So a bow player with khari bow and 40 acc can 3 shot any player by abusing this roll-shoot bugged mechanic. For me, archers are a bigger problem than horses. A horse you can see coming, and it is really easy to dodge and lure into a position where they are stuck to kill them, if the player on horseback is bad at pvp. Archers however, can introduce huge impact to a fight even if the bow build is being used by a very mediocre player. Simply put - getting good at melee pvp can take months, but a noob who picks up a bow and lands 2 lucky shots can turn the whole fight around.
If you haven't played much on privates where people actually sweat it, i suggest you try it out and see for yourself. At least come by to dogs arena and take a look at the tonnes of new archers who abuse the sht out of roll-shooting. I'm just really annoyed that when i need 6-9 hits with a spear to kill someone who can leave me with 60hp after landing 2 bugged shots.
Again, very surprised you haven't mentioned how broken bow pvp is at the moment.

19:10 Back in the day orb raiding was the norm. You get 2 people to toss 10 of the grease orbs to max stacks and then watch it burn. It was mostly silent, so you didn't even know you were getting raided. Then to keep it burning at max ticks just keep it alive with 1 more grease orb. It was so much more cost efficient that you could just carry some stacks on you and wipe all the vaults on the map.
That said, unofficial servers with active admins that wipe each month or so have been the bread and butter for my conan experience. I also enjoyed the modded servers a lot as well.

I really like what you have to say about open loot PvP games. The rush you get in them is like nothing else and Rust proves that there is a viable market for them, but I agree that the devs for most of these games cater to what veterans want too much and their player bases die off as a result. For example, if your game requires a lot of exp farming to gain skills you need, there should be something for low skill players to do besides loot corpses for their clan or gather materials. It's not fun to feel useless in combat for months and months. I haven't played Rust yet, but I like how you can accomplish stuff early on in the game even if the odds are against you. I also agree that server wipes are really important because every one of these sandboxes ultimately gets dominated by 1-2 massive clans and the power gap becomes an abyss after a year or so.

One of my best geared thralls disappeared and died mysteriously, another went missing and then the log told me I killed him, 2 others I told to guard are now on indefinite returning home status and I had a small camp of 8 chimmerian berserkers and they have vanished. I still had a lot of fun playing but losing my thralls killed the game for me. The style, atmosphere and music are really nice and the scenery has stopped me in my tracks at many times. There isn't any hand holding so it creates a nice level of mystery and discovery and the game is challenging enough to keep me satisfied. The admin panel with all the options is awesome, every game should have that. Combat feels solid, animation and connect of each swing and slice when you're cutting through enemies is fun to see and hear. I really dig the harsh brutal world and the intro with Conan rescuing you off the cross and having to escape the desert sets the tone so well.
My gripes about this title is as I mentioned some bugs with my thralls vanishing, also if you choose to upgrade a religious site sometimes it can't finish and it will automatically destroy itself with your thrall and materials. A bit more details would have been nice though, npc's mouths don't even move when they talk to you and some of the voice acting is not great. Breaking rocks or cutting trees down just doesn't feel right, the physics is like there is no weight or momentum. The city of Sepermeru looks nice in ways but the buildings are cut and pasted together with doors and windows merged by rocks or other buildings so it kills the immersion a bit. I think there are only 2 buildings you can enter and there was so much potential for a bustling interesting place but it's just for the most part npcs with nothing to say and buildings you can't enter/explore.
Perks needed to be more interesting and significant that dynamically change the gameplay by giving you some new abilities. It's all stat boost crap that doesn't even matter eventually as you get overpowered. I wanted to see run faster perks, hand combat depth, magic abilities, stealth assassin skills, maybe a grappling hook or necromancy staff etc..

I've thought a lot about a fair way against offlining and I think the best idea is to create a new type of box/chest which costs very little to make has a ton of health but is limited to 1 per clan AND has higher health if players are offline. I would also scale the health of it to the number of a building pieces a clan has. It would protect what little you have when starting out and make it not worth the investment of bombs to blow it up. But once you have a big base and more stuff it's relevance goes down as does it's health. How exactly it would be implemented, like how many inventory slots or how much health is something to be balanced and discussed.

@@Reek81I’m not sure about that suggestion. On one hand, that seems quite fair, alleviates the problem of getting offlined and encourages combat. On the other hand, offlining/starting a raid while the enemies are offline is a sneaky way for smaller clans to gain substantial ground over larger clans and get pushback on them, and it means that your raid can’t be delayed by everyone disappearing.

I've slept on Exiles for a long time, but as someone who likes to build in Minecraft, Valheim, etc, this game has some genuinely cool things to it. You can go massive as all hell, unlike Valheim, and it'll look like s proper castle, unlike Minecraft. The resolution and animations are also pretty impressive, and the elevators are very fun to work with, I've got a base going with a vertical down the nearby cliff, then a horizontal over to a smaller structure with a second vertical down the other side of the cliff.
But progressing past Iron, or fighting anything beyond low-level animals and camps with more than 4 enemies, it's a massive pain in the ass. And I'm not personally interested in taming/enslaving so it took me a while to even start trying out those things, and I'm not enjoying using the ones I've got. Not to mention how the game needs to be played with a Wiki, how difficult it is for a new player to get past iron into some heavy leather and steel. It's a weird game, and it doesn't feel good to progress through, it feels like a slog reading wikis and trying to find the shit you need.
I guess it could be pushed through, but there's a good reason most people haven't.
    It's not fun.
    Nor is it tolerable.
It's also interesting how combat is much more complicated but far less satisfying than Valheim, there's so much animation locking, out-of-reach problems, not to mention regularly being overrun trying to get basic low-medium tier mats. Conan Exiles' combat apparently isn't about combat at all, it's about pet management. It kinda fucking sucks how low-viability manual solo combat is. It's not fun.
Anyways, we'll see what happens in the next update. There's very little good short form content on this game, this video, the Dev stream about the upcoming Age of Sorcery changes, and Angaar's guides are all several hours long. It's too much, I won't watch it all, I'll just accept I don't know this game, but I'll add that I think this game is probably not worth knowing.
So if the game doesn't feel good to play when the update comes out, I'll have to consider Exiles a tragic, unnecessary loss.

At a certain point in the video .I was thinking to myself : Maybe Funcom just hates PVP and they are doing this on purpose. This overreaction to fix a problem is something you often see with mod developers as well. They don't play the game often enough to understand how much something needs adjusting. It is usually also the forums/discords where the loudest pugs get the most attention.i wouldnt be surprised at all if other games/modders motivate fanboys to try and convince developers to make changes that ruin the game/mod.The best sailors are at the docks because the real ones are out at sea navigating and actually solving the problems themselves.I have no high hopes for 3.0 .Its will be unbalanced like all the other updates; Why would it all of a sudden be different? The only solution to all of this. Is modded gameplay.Yes, you have some restricting rules to balance and some admins think they are gods. But you can raid/PVP more in 2 weeks then you can do on official in a whole year. Its great fun and even the people with jobs can play competitive against pros/no lifers.

Hey. Long time fan of your channel, and a huge fan of Conan Exiles initially. I was a huge fan back when the game first launched. I wanna point out some things that I feel, weren't exactly missed, but I don't think get enough attention, and that coincides with the fact that this is a PvE oriented game. The roleplay aspects.
I am a massive roleplayer. Anytime I make a first playthrough in any RPG, survival or not, I typically create a character and play as if I am that character. That aspect in this game was actually a really exciting prospect, and like you, I, myself, like the idea of making these large scale invasions on gigantic castles in a medieval setting. I'm surprised that you only partially touched on these aspects, without really directly stating that this is by and large, a PvE game.
One of my biggest gripes with the game is how the PvP ends up turning out in practice. Many of the things you pointed out are a few of the issues that I see, but I also feel like the mechanics of the game itself just don't incentivize roleplay in a PvP aspect.
For example, you've mentioned honeycombing in your building section, and stacking in general (pillar, foundation, etc.) and find it odd that they removed foundation stacking, but not pillar stacking. Furthermore, you made the statement that "people are just going to make bigger bases to account for honeycombing." But I feel like that, in itself, is a fundamental issue, and is kind of one of the major issues that I have with the mechanics of the game.
Because of the systems at play, stacking/honeycombing is a necessity in PvP, there's no getting around that. And that sucks, because as an avid PvPer and an avid roleplayer, I like to make colossal scale builds that are aesthetically intimidating, as well as easily defendable. I feel like this is the aspect that they want to push, and not this building giant, blocky, ugly blobs or rat nests that are, sure, difficult to raid, but just equally kind of bland and uninspiring usually. At least from a more thematic standpoint.
And I'm not saying that there can't be thematic situations with builds like this, either- you, yourself, show off that level of legendary storytelling in the videos that you make, I don't want to make the point that it can't be made thematic, I want to more make the argument that we shouldn't have to.
Right now, the mechanics incentivize this kind of building. As you said, bombs are just too easy to obtain, going through buildables is just too easy to do using bombs, and if you're not doing your part to implement some kind of stacking or honeycomb, you're just gimping yourself. But I feel that fundamentally clashes with the vision of the game.
I think the PvP mechanics as they stand need to be overhauled in a way that incentivizes more of a roleplay mindset, at least where building comes from. I know this is only making a case for how I build specifically (a mix between sound defense and architectural endowment) but with how heavy the promotional material hits the roleplay aspects hard, the PvP experience just overshadows that vision.
I have ideas on how they could be altered in order to incentivize that kind of building, but it would involve decreasing the incentive to honeycomb to such a gigantic degree. Things like, increasing the health values of the certain buildables, decreasing the damage of the bombs, implementing different ways of raiding a building (like battering rams, siege towers, actual functioning... ladders... maybe? Funcom? More than just for hatches? Funcom? Please!?).
I also think actual damage tweaks overall would be nice in order to make the fights longer, without making them drag out (which is an incredibly slippery slope, my ideas are not fool proof), I feel like combat itself could be overall improved in terms of flow, which would just go back to making a more authentic roleplay experience... I feel like this idea is so undermined, and the game is treated as a joke, in more communities than just one. They call it garbage and a waste of time, and money, and a dying game, and I feel like that just doesn't do it justice.
I feel like Funcom has a great foundation to work with, but they're just missing the mark in the PvP aspect because they didn't attempt to implement actual mechanics that play around the roleplay aspects. Maybe I'm just crazy and looking at it weirdly.

I thought I was missing something- the repair hammer! Just make the damn thing not function during a raid. That would be difficult to implement by just making it where damage is the indicator, but it would prevent defenders from just repairing everything instantly. And it goes back into the... You know, roleplay aspects, as repairing is like, really hard to do while you've got people shooting shit at you. :D

53:05 Maybe if lances didn't clip through enemies, because that's how they work in real life, but were forced out of the players hand and either dropped or remain stuck in the target.
Ever accidentally throw a blunted javelin? They are often shown lodged in the target. And they can also often be recovered from their inventory.

Funny you mention Ark in the Dynamic Building Damage section. Most servers I ever tried playing now use offline raid protection (I don't touch official because 1x sucks for small groups and basically only mega tribes play them), which is basically the same thing as the dynamic building damage. ORP has ruined the raiding experience for me and many others as some bases simply are not raidable if even 1 of the base owners are online. The amount 1 player can do to defend against a raid on Ark is immense and turns the tides of a battle so fast.

On the subject of horses, it sounds like the mechanics for mounts needs to be expanded on instead of nerfed or deleted.
Make the equivalent of holding the block button while using a spear into the brace for charge mechanic that has the potential to unseat someone from their saddle. Or large shields mitigating damage from a charging stallion. You could even add a thrown weapon like bolas that add the cripple effect to a mounted player denying the horses sprint abilities a short period of time.
Lance, armor and shield on top of a horse vs lance, armor and shield on top of an opposing horse should result in getting unseated a fair bit of damage and complete stamina drain from getting knocked into the dirt backwards from a full gallop.
Instant one shot kills are never "fun" to be on the receiving end of, I'll give you that. Also consider that there's a limit to the suspension of disbelief even in a videogam with eldritch gods and fantastic creatures. A horse is a thousand pounds of meat and bone with a 200 pound man on top holding a pointy stick. This is as close to a medieval tank as it gets. Perhaps a riding skill should be passively gained over time when using a given weapon? Mounted archers getting better the more they do mounted archery, and stearing a horse while holding a lance should be much harder.
Also consider the horse itself has to remain viable for their time cost to aquire. Having different breeds that you can raise depending on their food. Rouncy horses for general purpose, pack horses for carrying materials, and chargers for combat. The chargers being the only ones that will run down a human, they're timid prey animals after all.

Bolas for a horse, like the at-ats in empire strikes back.
I've not had to PvP a horse, but it absolutely should be the case that you have a braced spear attack.

    • @anathemanitt10
      @anathemanitt10 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@DJMavis I think that the mechanics in the game now can be shifted a bit to not just undo all the work and dev time put into making mounts in the first place.
A fully kitted player on horseback should, by all rights be something to contend with and. It just nerfed into pointlessness in the pendulum of PvP combat. A bit of background I worked for years with some friends who raise horses and more specifically for jousting. The tech level of real jousting armor is way beyond that shown in exiles, and lances do not just break after the first hit. That's "sport" jousting where the way points are scored is by solid hits on a specially attached shield called an Ecranche. In war you'd use long spears to stab at enemies as you rode in and the bulk of the horse itself trampling people underfoot is what does the line breaking damage. Impaling someone with a spear or lance likely means that weapon will be stuck in their dead body and the rider has to let go or risk falling off the horse themselves. Translated to game terms you'd either want to use long spears to make multiple passes and whittle down health or use the lance like a javelin where the heavy attack inflicts a lot of stamina damage and knocks the target down but you always lose that lance with the light attack being the ride by and slash and thrust. Both give the person being attacked multiple chances to evade or u horse the attacker since no one method will ensure a kill with one hit.

    • @anathemanitt10
      @anathemanitt10 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@DJMavis additionally, the longer you're riding with the lance lowered the harder it is to control, both horse and weapon. There's a lot of skill to the technique and timing as the knight drops and sets the lance into position which is why they're so heavily counterweighted in modern and historical examples. If you want an example go down to your local diy store and grab a 12 food long pine dowel and try to hold it under your arm from the back, now imagine running at full speed like that and trying to hit a Mellon squarely. That's an easier task than riding at full gallop and hitting a person.
Again to translate to game terms the act of lowering the lance should be deliberate and slow so that you have to time it. Only getting a few second window where it's not draining stamina and wobeling all over the place unable to get a solid strike. Putting skill into the horsemanship is just as important as giving the player on foot a counter.

Recently played Elden Ring. Gotta say I miss so many things there when playing. It's a PvE pov btw.
Personal opinion: I want various things to be reworked. Probably most of the game. My thoughts:
    1. Remove Encumbrance and rework it with Grit. It just feels very annoying switch between
    2. Remove/Rework Survival. I just don't get it why it is there. I think Survival is almost similar to Arcane of Elden Ring. Atleast that has combat value with certain builds there. Survival will be used for farming only and being such silly is ugh.
    3. Rework NPC damage output. I just don't get it why NPC can give riddiculous amount of damage to one shot you. You will just use a thrall to cheese the boss. It just takes away the fun of fighting boss. Boss doesn't have much unique movesets. At the end of the day you will try to fight the boss with thralls and sit there or at best will try to dodge the boss when battling against bosses and its all about not getting one shot or lag delayed. I didn't get the enjoyment of killing bosses and get its gear to do much about it. Repeated boss farming not fun at one point in this way.
    4. In this game I find Spear/Dagger with Bleed/Poison to be the only useful thing. Game doesn't have much unique buildups. Bleed is just damage reduction overtime and Poison is just the same but faster. I'm not sure how good corruption can be.
    5. LAGS. That's the only thing to know
    6. I hope HP and other stuffs get scaled a bit longer. Balance NPC accordingly in similar fashion. Buffs that you get after levelling up attributes gets reworked somehow. Similar to Soulsborne fashion with rings or scaling up in various way. I think Sigil does feel the similar role to Ring/Talisman there. But change many of them a bit.
    7. Tbh, I don't find much value in early game. Game doesn't give you every single thing until you reach lvl 60. Before that like 70% of the things. I hope that something needs to be done there. Make something enjoyable in that part.
I know I am just judging it too much from SoulsRing POV. But various side kind of makes me ehhh at certain point. Combats doesn't become that enjoyable at one point.

In short ,I look at Conan Exiles as "Skyrim with friends". It is basically a fun PvE/RP survival experience, with a healthy level of PvP danger to spice things up. Not to mention the amazing building system (Which I adore as I am mainly a builder)
I have sunk nearly 5k hours into this game over the years ;all of which have been on a Roleplaying servers; and truly believe this is the optimum way to experience Conan Exiles for new players and old players alike, returning to the game.
If you are having a hard time on official servers ,and are thinking of giving up ,I highly suggest checking out Private servers .There are so many to choose from and I'm sure you will find the type of experience you are looking for eventually.
Another reason I love Conan Exiles ,is the people you meet along the way .I have made many great friends in the community and it just made my gaming experience that much more enjoyable.
In conclusion ,I think the "base Official server" experience is lacking over all. The PvP is janky and sometimes even broken to the point of being unplayable. If you're looking for a smooth PvP experience ,this is not the game for you .
However ,If you're looking for a game where you can play out your wildest fantasies with other people, then I believe that Conan Exiles is one of the best Roleplaying games out there on the market . Trust me when I say this ,my friends and I have been trying hard to find a replacement for Conan, but have thus not found anything even comes close to the experience we crave.
So yeah, Conan Exiles is truly a experience I recommend. A experience that just needs a little bit of a polish to make it to shine.

Game was a Cashgrab at first.
but for some reason they had succes, so they tried to band aid fix most of their broken mess.
i remember early acces when most of their stuff was lazy storebought assets, literall asset flip.
one day i watched their dev log live stream and one of their "genius" devs had the idea to literally steal dark souls style combat and thats why we are left with the shitty combat system.
non of the stuff they promised their early bakers got added, like literally non.
cutting of other peoples dick? nope
    magicsystem? nope.
a npc town for player interaction and proper trading? nope and dont tell me sepermaru, they added that shit later to save some face, its not even half the stuff they promised.
ai and pathing is still worse than on most f2p unity games
    progression is still boring
pvp still feels like they had to put it in for "reasons".
this game would be a good game if it wasnt planed from moment uno as a quick cashgrab to save their broke company.
    wish they went bancrupt instead.
and lets not start about the devs...

Question. Would making it so you CANNOT repair/build during a window while your base is under attack fix a lot of your problems? No placing stuff without LoS because you can't place anything, and if you can't repair your drawbridge for5-10 minutes after your base takes a chunk of damage would let people set up another round of bombs? I also think, with the new sorcery stuff, having a spell to see storage through walls would alleviate/lessen the problem of hidden loot stashes under floors, you'd still have to get to them, but now you'd know where they are

  • @jacob9373

i love how many whacky places you were able to find to record in hahaha
As a 3k hour rust player who's been playing since back in the unity 3 days (legacy rust, as it's lovingly been named), your points and comparisons were very much perfect. To add to some of your points, making a play as a naked is valuable for the most part because those plays simply can't be made when you're geared. Things like daggers should be much the same way - they should feel like the double barrel, which is a gun that's essentially useless when you're geared but is a god send when you're a grub, and it's upgrades are much the same with the spas-12 being pretty much useless outside of narrow corridors. make higher tier armour resistant to poison or make the stamina cost extremely high for daggers when wearing med/heavy armour or whatnot, you know?
Ima be honest, if conan pvp had a monthly wipe schedule and smaller group sizes, i'd play it on the first week. There's nothing quite like the mad rush to fight over valuable positions and resources, or scraping together the lowest amount of explosives in the hope that you can cause critical damage to a neighbour before they get big enough to end your whole career. Zergs kill games. Zergs almost killed rust back in the day, and they routinely kill smaller modded servers, it's just that the playerbase doesn't reflect it anymore because server hopping is more popular than it used to be.
The insta-level 60 thing would be incredible, as there really shouldn't be a required grind investment in a pvp environment. you should be free to only *have* to do what you want to do and you should not be allowed to get a leg up on your opponent just because you spent more time hitting gorillas. levels should be superficial at worst, where you get all your stats on login and the levels are just to indicate your time spent no lifing a server. server transfers shouldn't be able to be done with any items in your inventory, or better yet just not at all, which would be easy if levels are superficial.
The general design philosophy of these types of games should always be "how do we squish the highest tier and the lower tier together so that talented low tier players have a chance against unskilled high tier players". If a dev misses the mark on that, they end up supporting the high tier and ignoring the low tier, or they end up with no tiers and have a homogenized esport (which i'm not against, mind you, but it's not what they're looking for lol)

I know no one will notice this since the video is over two months old, but I thought I would mention that Arc Survival Evolved used to have some things that made the game very balanced pvp wise. Sadly the people who play 80 hours a week threw tantrums online to have them extremely nerfed or removed from the game; making it very unbalanced and favoring massively large groups by miles. Sadly the situation was made even worse with server transfers; allowing for the creation of mega tribes.
A great example is how the club was nerfed. This allowed newer player who were skilled the ability to ambush higher level players and take their loot. Sadly it wound up nerfed because higher level players cried how they should be immune because of their end game gear and much higher levels. Sadly there is a lot more to it, and what I just put here is the tip of the iceberg

I believe they added a lot of this stuff with the best of intentions, forgetting the X Factor that is players always exploiting. The biggest offender for me is the server transfer. you know something is going great when EVERY reputable player owned server shuts off the mechanic the day it goes live, right? I think Poisons are fine, but you're absolutely right, they need to be more cost prohibitive to craft if they are going to be as impactful as they are.
Great video, You make great points as always, and hopefully Funcom sees this and implements some of these ideas...but then they might have to put you on the payroll, so they wont XD

What if the dynamic building damage was to scale with the amount and tier of structures you/your clan has? The bigger and sturdier the base the more time you have for it's destruction after logging out. Idk about alternate accounts though :/ Maybe force drastic increase in decay timers for this feature to make this method more annoying to keep up would help?

Funcom will be so surprised when there are 5-6 max servers for the first month after a wipe maybe even make some servers that wipe every 3 months or so

I've never PvPed but there was a mention of blocking the lance with a shield (yeah, I didn't use a shield in PvE either) so maybe on a successful shield block chance of breaking is much higher too?
And it should absolutely cost stamina to hold up a 2m length of heavy wood by one end.

  • @Atmos41

I have 2k hours on Rust. It is (arguably) not a lot, and jumping into Conan Exiles I really loved the concept of the game. PvP however has a few game design problems:
    - There should be wipes. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE. Just add full wipes (yes, also level wipe), then it will highlight all problems with progression that you have to solve in order to create a healthy PvP game. This is the main reason Rust is more successful imo. Knowing that some people have months of head start on you is very demotivating.
    - You can't allow giant bases without penalty. There should be an upkeep mechanism that is exponential and scales with the number of blocks you place. The suggestion is that building blocks that are not upkept decay rapidly depending on the tier. This will also make griefing and abusive land claim a lot harder.
This should at least solve the main problems I see with PvP. Solving PvP completely though? I don't think it's possible with the current progression system and permanent map.
So here is a crazy suggestion: have a special mode for PvP, where you have a smaller procedural map that wipes every week. Progression should much simpler (e.g. no perks and scaling, only knowledge points) and the best loot should be obtainable via PvP content.
With a more even playing field, PvP will thrive.

  • @DyingCr0w
    @DyingCr0w ปีที่แล้ว

Maybe kinda pointless throwing it out there, but the solution could be much simpler.
Limit base sizes by pieces, so they're more like outposts, but still comfortable. Not doing the math here, someone else figure it out.
No more honeycomb all the things with 10 billion layers, throw a bubble on it and have an "impenetrable" main base. Clans will have to build multiple smaller outposts, with a number cap based on member amount, like 1 outpost per member. If one member left, the last outpost built after that member joined (which increased that cap) would have an accelerated rate of decay, increasing the cost for maintenance to prevent hiring exploits. Basically, that one member would have to build it and the outpost would have double ownership; the player first (determining the decay timer), then the clan (global ownership because clan). Something like a sandstone 2x2 wouldn't count, because it's a shack anyone can break into. Fair game.
This could brew some interesting guerilla warfare situations with strategic bubble baits and nothing to loot, but nothing would be unraidable. Scouting would be the key here. YOU ugly fish MADE THIS ABUNDANTLY CLEAR :)
As for new players and sandstone bases, the solution could be a power check. That being as simple as a check vs the target player ability to make OR USE explosives. If they can't make OR USE explosives, they can't be raided, because they can't raid effectively, but they can still PVP the old fashion way, and can only build one outpost. Don't matter f they're alts for spying? Anyone can go naked and do it.
That way, one could have a max lvl pvp combat able character with a sandstone, t2 or t3 base that could not be raided by players, but would be enough to sustain guerilla solo play. To encourage upgrades from sandstone and t2, throw more purges. Better to get hit by NPC then get bombed to oblivion by the "alphas", i guess.
You obviously have a love\hate relationship with this game. We all do >.> , RP aside. Don't know where you're at right now, but you have the quite above average IQ to put up a good case with the dev team for a bit of a shake, and who knows, maybe come back and do some more of your absolutely great storytelling?

Inventory crafting menu should be player-sortable. (Or just make 3 tiered construction bench/blueprint table, and move all walls/etc recipes to it) Alligators/etc should be able to swim. There should be a lightsource option for daggers/two handed weapon users. Carpenter bench bark recipe should be: makes 10bark per wood not 1bark per 10wood. Tanner bench should have gossimer/silk recipe. The dryer and tanning racks should be able to use alternate fuels. Rock noses should be more danger/less nuisance. Would be nice to have a faster way to dump inventory into nearby containers. If terraria can do it, so can conan! Make merchant's better, you know they are garbage, fix them. Make crafting benches / housing peaceables transparent when placing, so you can see the walls, or add a button/command to snap to closest peaceable spot, like centering a maproom inside some pillars

2nd ah base is a easy enought farm with a black blood pick and a oil of bounty when doing the loop between the 4 gold rocknose you can get around 3k gold ore in 30 min and it will only use 2 min of pick
and just a final tip if u find a bugged starmetal get a sandstone foundation put it over it remove it and shoot a new arrow it will work 90% of the time
