This is exactly what I was thinking of when I commented on your post with Mark about it’s terrible UIUX in the block editor. Why can’t we have nice things things like this in WordPress core?
This looks really nice IMO.
Then I got to the part where you're building a page with something looking like classic WordPress widgets. Yikes.
Jesus this admin UI makes WordPress look like garbage.
If I came from different CMS, saw Drupal and WP for first time, looking at those build-in custom fields & design, it would be Drupal all the way. Luckily I have the money for Bricks + ACF Pro/JetEngine, but otherwise Drupal would be the logical choice. When trying to get something slightly more advanced done in WP, it often feels like you're jerry-rigging something together with multiple plugins 😅
i have a lifeline crocoblock, im going to be ditching Wordpress soon for Drupal.
This is fantastic. What a smart meta way to look at WordPress from an objective, comparative viewpoint. And also a blast from the past for those that were there alongside you back then👍

Very interesting. I’m looking forward to seeing more. I see no good reason why WordPress can’t offer basic custom fields and post types. Also, the UI is much better.
I haven’t used Drupal in ages. The admin experience looks way more modern. I think WordPress could be shifting this direction a bit with the newer admin UI and data views. I think the post/page editing experience could benefit from this cleaner, one panel approach.
What got me really intrigued is the table view builder. That would be amazing to create something like that out of posts. I know you could achieve the layout with core blocks, but it’s not the same as a table. That’s pretty cool.
Next episode: Joomla 😅. Is that still a thing?
I wish WordPress would get a minimal UI similar to this.
This is a great idea and format! I'm already a fan of this series-count me in. I haven't used it in ages either. It's very powerful, but certainly not as direct and simple to use as the Create Content Model. I believe much of this could be accomplished in the block editor, as seen in the prototype, and with loops in a pattern (which is also kind of a view). We are missing filters, categories, etc., and we could get close while keeping it simple.
I like this series idea. From working at multiple college/universities that use Drupal instead of WordPress I suspect this may be why they use it?!? I always found editing more annoying and limited as someone w limited access but if they want a user to have only limited "insert some text here" format, where custom post/page types are all identically formatted, maybe admins deciding to buy the tool find it clearer for their use case out of the box? (Of course that can be accomplished w WordPress).
Take a look at how Webflow does it. Nomenclature is a bit different. They call custom post types Collections.
Let's please make other videos on this topic
Also, how you use body as a field WordPress should do the same thing, the classic editor could be a field, and the block editor could be a field that you could choose at will
The nice menu of Drupal ist the same system as the "classic WP Admin". I even prefer the WP one, because of the dark color of the menu. Helps focusing on the bright main content. The block editor interface with to many sidebars and panels are hard to use.
Never used Drupal: Can you save this content types to file to version it?
you can export all the configuration to yaml files and import to another drupal installation, and you can find some modules to install a specific yaml configuration, and in this moment people are working with a module called Recipes to export and import more complex and specific functionalty liked to content types.
Is there a bricks / breakdance for durpal?
It's been many years since I've followed Drupal super close, so I'm not really sure.
unfortunately not. there have been some try to be this but never took off. Mercury editor is probably the closest there is now. as of now super heavy developer focused. early next year they are launching Drupal CMS which is supposed to be more for non developers but we will see how that actually goes
Kind of embarrassing for WP. Not a fan of the "views" concept, though.
This cms puts wordpress to shame. If there were more drupal developers in my area i would never touch wordpress. I am non dev. The ux ui is so much better and the ability to create custom post types etc....
I wouldn't say Drupal puts WP to shame. It's def nice it has these cms features built-in, but the overall theming, plugin, and publishing experience is far better in WP IMO.
@@afonsoabreu1962 Drupal was created as CMS from the very begining, WordPress was just a blog platform that scale to CMS in the time. In the old days we used Drupal and Joomla (known as Mambo) instead WordPress for making dynamic websites.
Kevin beat me to the views… a similar concept exists in Toolset but it’s magic area gives you a full editor for html markup, css, js and conditional logic.
I notice that the fields are tied to the CPT while in other Wordpress equivalents custom fields can be broken down into groups and allied to more than one post type.
As our world Duce is saying whenever I hear the term "no code" slogan.... It's fake news!!!! When you choose a grid or a list or if it is homes or posts..... It's code!!! And someone wrote it!!!
Anyways, I do like gutenberg but it need more work.
This comment was written with no words!! By an AI agent...
Sure, there is code, but the end user didn't have to *write* code to accomplish it.
looks like drupal still heavy developer-oriented. that was their mistake and they still on it :)
but their new dashboard looks sexy compare to old one holy looks so nice.
They are releasing a separate version of Drupal which will be more designer/page builder oriented but in general yes, ease of use has never been the strongest part of Drupal
You should look at the new "Experience Builder" initiative for Drupal. I'm not kidding when I say that it looks like Figma for a CMS.
