- I just picked up a 2021 Beta 200 and had a chance to get out and re-do some of the course from this year's saddleback extreme race so this video is a bit of my initial thoughts on the beta and just some riding through some great terrain.
It seems that intermediate level in enduro has its own TKO track 💪
Thanks for that video, I really enjoyed watching!
I’m so jealous. I love saddleback and I have been drooling over that bike for about a year now. Congrats on the new ride.
subscribed! I'm currently on a YZ250fx but am considering a move to either a beta 200rr or 300rr in the next season or two. I too struggle a bit with the weight on my YZ. I'm mostly a casual single track rider and the 200 seems like a nice happy medium between weight and lug-ability. Keep us posted!
The FX is a great bike - especially for XC/GNCC. It doesn't feel heavy at all as long as you are upright and moving but in singletrack, it can wear you out. The 200 feels so much lighter.
Trail looks so fun thanks for the review
Got 2020 Beta 200 RR and jealous after watching your vid...IMO 14T is a no brainer for the bike, in addition from my experience the bike can be ridden wit less clutch if you choose.
I'm going to try the 14t at the next outing. I dumped 20ml out of each fork leg too. Hopefully that softens it up a bit.
I have the 21 200rr and after about 300 miles, i switched to a 52 in the rear which helped make 2nd and 3rd more useable. I would have switched the front sprocket instead but i would have had to shorten the chain. After another 100 miles, i also switched the front to a 13 and that was too big a change. Now i'm running a 14 in the front and it feels great. I'm around 190lbs without gear so factor that in but, i think 13/49 or 14/52 is perfect for this bike.
@@p.c.10 shoot. I was hoping there would be enough travel in the adjusters to use the 14t without cutting the chain.
@@p.c.10 Thanks for the input...muvh appreciated. You would think withnthe 200 RR Race KYB shocks the bike world have better turning radius?
@@TheWholeShot now that i think of it, i didn't actually check how long the adjuster bolts are. They were out about an inch so i assumed the smaller front sprocket would max the them out. You might be fine. How is the jetting on your bike? Mine is rich . I clean the plug every ride (40-70 miles) but need to replace it evry 3 or 4 rides.
I would have walked it up that creek bed first step up lol much less stacked rocks. My gasgas trials would be easy but not my big bike being wet. 200 looks like a blast my ktm 200 is still going but id like to have one to compare side by side
I took a 2020 200 RR for a test ride at demo days and what a nice bike. I'm a big 200 cc aficionado. I really liked it. Great engine and it had a surprising low end hit I was not expecting. Good bike for lugging even though just a 200. It was right at home high in the rev band too. I'm sure the RR model has nicer suspension but I was only riding a trail. I never had to leave 3rd gear in it. I've heard complaints about sub par electronics on some Betas. Is the 2021 bike premixed or injected? What else is different on the RR Race model over the regular 200 RR? I have a KTM 150 SX with a 200 SX engine in it and I love it but might be on a Beta 200 some day.
Lot of work for having fun.
I’d like to know what you think about it out on some flowing, and tighter trails too.....
The bike feels nimble on tight trails. I actually thought the bars felt too wide but when I looked up the width, they are a little narrower than the renthal 999s i normally ride with. I guess they just feel wider because the bike feels so much smaller.
@@TheWholeShot i agree on the stock bars, what I noticed is the low sweep so i swapped to pro taper contour cr mid and feel much better with em. I love the bike in almost all types of trails ive ridden so far from fast and flowing to slow and tight, but one thing is sure, that clutch hand is going to stay busy.
@@Fureinku yeah I would agree with that. I'm going to try one of the Midwest engineering clutch levers. My poor hand isn't used to all this work.
My dad just bought one from a dealership in Wisconsin and he picking it up in the next few days
He's going to love it!
Quite impressiove for someone that didn't know the bike 💪💪💪...
Didn't you try in 1st with the rain mode?
They say it logs everything...
With the race edition for this type of stuff? And nit the xtrauiner?
Most of that was in rain mode. I'm just so used to being in second from my old bike. I considered the x trainer but what I heard about the suspension and high speed instability scared me off. The 200 seems like the best of both worlds.
I was at the x on my kdx220. That e start sure is nice.....js.
I'm so spoiled now. I don't think I could ever own another bike without e start.
Do you notice a difference with the map switch on this bike? I have a 2018 Xtrainer. The map switch is very subtle so I rarely bother with it.
It isn't massively different but it is noticeable. Sunny mode is definitely snappier.
Wow I’ve been riding my FX for 4-yrs now and thinking about a 2-stroke! Should I switch or get an 2-stroke and keep my FX?
In my opinion, it depends on what kind of riding you do. I do a lot of cross country/gncc stuff for which I really think the 4t is best. For gnarly, tight single track the 2Ts are better suited. Get both!
@@TheWholeShot hey I really appreciate the feedback! Great video, and I’m torn but I will probably wait another year so I can have both !🏍💨
I've heard the KYB forks will soften up...Just never heard how many hours it takes. I'm riding a Beta 300 and am going to purchase the one you are riding soon, so please keep updates coming. THX
I have heard something similar. I guess I will give it 10 or 15 hours to see if it loosens up any.
I have the same bike, mine softened up a little bit still on the stiff side. Great bike and great video, looks fun,
@@LGguedo I removed 20ml of oil from each fork but now the cold weather is here. Hoping for a decent day so I can see if it helped.
Kevin Gregg 384 Kevin Gregg 384 thanks for the suggestion. I have about 15 hours now, will probably service them soon and will try that. Snow buried my local trails already, I know how it goes.
Don't know how tall you are and I know you mentioned the weight but how did you find the shorter seat height factored into the manageability of the beta compared to the fx?
I'm 5'10" and the beta height is noticeable but you get over it pretty quickly. The fx is a pretty tall bike. I put a lower seat on it and chopped the subframe to get it more comfortable for me.
I’m thinking about this bike too. I’m 5’11 and 172 in my birthday suite. You said the forks mite be to stiff, have you tried lowering the oil in the forks ? Maybe 10 to 15 cc..
No, I haven't cracked these open yet. Maybe after a little more break-in time I will open them up and see if I can pull a little out.
AOS fork doesn’t have a traditional open chamber.
What you guys are doing here is trails totally wrong bike
What is the right bike?
@@TheWholeShot a trials bike beta trials
@@davecox900 ah yeah. That would be nice. Don't have one of those anymore.
