He seems to have been growing fairly quickly, I followed like a month ago & his like average has gone up about 20 per video from a month ago, pretty sick
This comment is absolutely ludicrous!!!! Any human that reads your comment would have already recognized the channel. If someone comes here, doesn't recognize the channel, that would mean , they have a disability.

One of the top podcasts in mma. A must watch every week. I wish you would share more about yourself and your background. Thank you as usual for the info and solid options
I appreciate the kind words Rod! Be sure to catch the livestreams. I drop a few more personal stories and background on those. Got an end of year wrap up show I’ll be doing as well that will likely include more of that.
🙏 I appreciate you tuning in each week! Battle has shown he’s got the ability to improve fight to fight and that’s a talent that I find to be extremely valuable. I may have been one of the only people who had Battle winning TUF from the start of the show. Few people gave him credit there.
I like the break down! There are a lot of coin flip fights. My picks from most to least confidence are: Klein, Cherriere, Sy, Lapilus, Brito, Battle, Imavov, Saint Denis, Perez, Altamirano, Cutelaba, Frivola, Cornolle, Duncan. Good luck everyone.
Thanks for dropping the picks! We differ a little but not too much. Cornolle certainly has a chance. Cavalcanti is taking the fight on short notice after fighting only a few weeks ago.
Never heard of the TEXAS necktie until you mentioned it. Researched and Heard Derrick Krantz perfected that lolol I had multiple Battles with him 2 in MMA and 1 in Bjj . Phenomenal
I take it that means you’re none other than Hayward Charles! This comment was super cool to read! Thank you for sharing this with me. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. 👊
LOVE the Brendan Allen pick bro, always tough to go against French fighters in Paris, but I really think hes the better fighter by a good margin and he finishes the majority of his fights, so he has a strong opportunity to take the judges and any bias out of the equation. Think this is a great matchup for him too, Imavov is relatively untested against true submission grappling threats and that back take is NASTY. Also, his Finish Only line is dropping, but its still at +180 bro🤯🤯
Dude seriously! I have no clue why Imavov is the favorite! Although the stuff with the French commission messing with the non French fighters is a bit concerning. Sounds like they prevented Allen from rehydrating and also drew a bunch of blood. If this was neutral territory I’d be way more invested in Allen. I still think he wins here though.
Even more impressive that he hit it after just finding out about it the night before. It normally can take a while to execute moves let alone lock it in so soon
Watching fights absolutely makes you a better fighter as long as you’re the type who can learn that way. I’ve got a really solid “monkey see monkey do” ability. 🐒 Not only saw the move in the fight and hit it in the next class but taught the guy I hit it on how to do it 😂 To be fair I watched it multiple times to see how he did it.
Interesting, it probably makes you a better fighter if you're already a fighter... tbh I think if I got in a fight today, instincts would take over and it'd be the same as it was 20 yrs ago... BUT, you can't prove watching MMA has NOT made me better, if I never fight again 😁
Best MMA channel on TH-cam...while hearing me watching some of your vids, my wife said "this sounds like you lecturing me about the fights" I'm always breaking down the fights, I have more full notebooks about MMA than all my lifetime schooling combined... If you live in New England, you are welcome to my house anytime!
Love it! Yeah the MMA notebooks start to pile up quickly these days. I’ve got quite a few myself. I actually live in Nebraska so quite a ways from the New England area. I appreciate the invite though!
@JacobDeWaters I’m actually just about to go into jiujitsu practice right now 😅 I had a few amateur fights over a decade ago but now I train more for fun. Commentary is something I’m open to though!
Cavalcanti vs Cornolle is a SUPER interesting card hiding early in the prelims. I like both fighters, but give me CORNOLLE. Cavalcanti clearly won that first fight, but it was not NEARLY as one sided as you portrayed it tbh bro (watched it last night). Cavalcanti had a few big moments that really killed Cornolles momentum, but Cornolle definitely showed flashes, but, more importantly, Cornolle is a COMPLETELY different fighter now. When I do my "mental whiteboard"😂😂 none of the big pluses on the Cornolle side were present in that first fight (pressure, knees and elbows, mixes in grappling well, especially the clinch), also, I think this is actually a very favorable stylistic matchup for her, its in France and I like her versatility a bit more than Cavalcantis. Cavalcanti is a very good striker, won't be a walk in the park by any means, but, especially as a notable dog, give me Cornolle🔥🔥🔥
The fight being in France is what kept me off a bet. Apparently the French commission is doing sketchy stuff to the fighters not from France. Should be a competitive fight. Cornolle is good but I think she gets way out volumed here.
Aligned with you on so much! 100% agree on Battle, and I’m all over Allen at this value. Bet Altamirano as a dog, might hedge (also bet Ziam as a dog and might hedge, but uh, that’s for nonsensical reasons…) I bet Perez early -250 thinking the line would move and I’d hedge, not sure what to do now. Darya’s got potential and will look better than her debut, but Perez has really proved my original pre-UFC presumptions of her wrong!
I’m staying far away from the Perez fight. So hard to know how Darya will look this time compared to her last one. Any time I can get plus money on both sides I take it. Free money is better than risky money no matter how confident I am. Glad to hear we agree about Battle! He’s my most confident on the card.
I’m not liking many spots for upcoming lady fights, but all depends on the lines they open at (fortunately Iasmin opened at -110 👍). I’d say I’ll be betting light for the rest of the year, but I’ll end up just betting mens and do something stupid like smash a Fares Ziam opening line because I thought he was Youssef Zalal 🤦🤦🤦
@@138MMA I have heard quite a few ppl mention frevola wrestling I don't think he needs to wrestle to beat ziam I think he could straight up ko him some people say well ziam has not been knocked out before im like just like edman had never been submitted until meerchart got to him
It’s not that I don’t think Frevola can knock him out, I think his path of least resistance is to take the fight to the mat though. Ziam has shown weaknesses there.
Still a necktie but us grappling nerds knew it wasn’t Peruvian in origin. That Texas necktie was legit though and after implementing it into my game, I think I might even like it better. It’s a quicker setup and it’s less risk of losing position if somehow the opponent survives.
@Ganskow love that combo! It’s somewhat unnecessary in the gi because you’ve got the gi as your grips, but no gi it’s nice being able to prevent them from rolling through by grabbing the neck. Makes it so the finish can either be based on the arm or the choke and it’s a situation where the opponent is in a miserable position. I’m with you on the obscure subs! So fun hitting stuff like that in training and your partner going “dude what the hell did you just hit me with?”
How confident are you in Perez’s jiu jitsu? Do you think she could land a submission? DZ trying to get up quickly & using all her energy mixed with Perez’ iffy top control seems like Perez could sneak to the back if DZ exposes it
also : last week’s contender series I took your picks mixed with a little of my judgement & got placed 8th in the world on Verdict/yesterday I got placed 191st (top 25%) so it helps to know how reliable your picks are
I’m not super confident she can land a sub as I do think she’s predominately g&p over sub, but it doesn’t mean she won’t go for it given the opportunity. Stoked to hear you placed so high on verdict! That’s super cool!!
@138MMA I listened to Cody's breakdown and tbh I thought it was pretty off. I feel like people aren't watching all the tape just recent tape or going off memory. I try to see everywhere both fighters have success and where both struggle and kevin struggles where bryan battle shines and kevin does well in areas bryan does even better, given he's actually finishing fights in those areas. How could anyone watch Kaleb rideout vs kevin jousett and think bryan doesn't absolutely maul him. Kevin was being out ranged by a guy the same height but shorter reach. If these dudes go jab for jab kick for kick I have no doubt bryan comes out on top and if the fight hits the mat kevin is way underskilled
I’d never accuse Cody of not doing his due diligence but I agree with your assessment of the matchup. Idk what’s causing him to miss this as he’s one of the best in the space, but I think we are on the right side of this one.
@138MMA he literally said word for word "Bryan Battle can't grapple"...... I was literally blown back by the statement. Over half his finishes are sub wins. He has literally subbed bjj black, brown, and purple belts in the ufc if you count the tuf fight with petroski
If you did that choke in Peru, I'm sure a Peruvian citizen would call it a " Peruvian necktie". I mean, people have different names for every technique. I'm sure some guy from Rome did the Texas necktie once, in the year 800BC. Should we not call it the Roman Necktie? I'm sure there's some Romans criticising right now.
The Peruvian necktie is a specific move. Much like the Japanese necktie. There are differences. It’s kind of how the darce and anaconda are different yet both classified as “front chokes”.
