I'm over in europe and love this retro style... I see lots of these old mopeds for sale on the cheap... would love to see more e-conversion videos on these classics. Great channel... Cheers!

I literally just started the electric conversion on 2 motobecane mopeds. Started following you a few weeks back for help with the conversions. Keep up the good work.

i bought a used one, when I was 14 back in the early 1980's, I rode it thousands of miles, never had any problems/accidents, or break downs. I liked that I could be totally independent. Riding to the mall, work, even riding to school, etc.

What a score! I look forward to watching some moped adventures and eventually the conversion.

you will ride that for 20 years before it dies. i got a batavus. I used to jump "abuse" it all the time back in 1998, still frickin running. I have been considering and electric motor upgrade too. I am excited to see what components you use.

@@JohnnyNerdOut I think you would be better off selling the motor running. lots of people out there fixing up mopeds as well. probably be happy to find it. Plus! I can't wait for that motor to die for you to proceed! lol!

Nice. I'm not familiar with the Motobecane's drivetrain but it looks like you can keep the pedals because they run a separate axle on a freewheel hub. That's one of the engineering problems with converting a Tomos (or a Puch). You can probably get $150 for the motor and pipe on Moped Army ;) With a blown motor these go for $50 although that ones in pretty fair shape.

Had this model in 1981. The muffler coming apart was the only issue.

Hey man, video suggestion: show us how to clean a bike with a convertion kit. What to look out for, what to never do, where to never throw water, etc.

So you might aswell buy another one to convert because unless you do something wrong that engine wont blow av7 engines are absolutely bullet proof. you will lose spark tho but that will be your old condensor they dont like getting hot and will often be the only reason these break down

Awesome!!! You're actually doing the most green thing by running that ICE into the ground before electrifying it. I doubt you'll get the same range but the power off the line should be considerably better. Depending on the motor and gearing it might even go faster. I'm "amped" just to see the results.

    • @JohnnyNerdOut
      @JohnnyNerdOut  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That's the plan! Ya acceleration should be much better!

    1) If you use a good synthetic oil, (e.g. Maxima K2) you’ll have less/no smoke. I plan on trying that flavor out in my generator engine.
    2) clean the air filter. It sounds altogether rich. These buzz-bomb motors need regular cleaning.

It would be cool if you can put the battery in place of the gas tank.

The Ristretto 303 FS is probably the electric version of this moped.

there's starving children on r/mopeds who would kill for those motobecane parts, let alone the whole bike. and you got it for 400? wild

Up here in the worker's paradise of Canada, you need to pay twice to get a license (1st a written test, only good from dawn to dusk driving), then a road test, then pay a few hundred bucks for a course to save you $300 off the $700/yr mandatory insurance they charge first time licensees of these things. When I was a kid in the 1980s, we didn't need any of that crap. I had an old Honda moped that I would ride double, loaded with 48 beers, no helmet, etc, but the Karens of the world put the kibosh on that.

Please get that dirty 2 stroke engine replaced with an electric motor ASAP. I was born and raised in Sugar House, SLC. Air quality in the SLC valley can be very bad at times. Thanks from Seattle.

Why not keep the 2-stroke engine and add an electric motor. Electric in town and petrol for out of town. it would be different.
