I think the real problem with this game is ghost of Tsushima has set the bar immensely high for a samurai/ronin game
It just does what it needs to do sooo well. Yes there’s “Ubisoft” tropes but they do it with quality, the sense of exploration and they unclutter all the mess that comes with an open world game. Also the combat held my attention all the way through. Felt like such a bad ass the whole time
@@sicdedworm09all it needs is more fluid combat like God of war and more gore. Idk why they wanna do open world if when most of it is boring
I said this to multiple ppl,If Ghost is a 10/10 this a 6/10 and thats not bad, this game is honest and good which is a rare commodity these days
@@fnggaming89 This is a better version of ghost of tushima. I couldnt even finish ghost of tushima to repetitive. rise of ronnin i actually beat and on new game plus
@@PCgamerChannel agreed you have a total of 8 different weapons each with 3 stances and all have different move set and play completely different from one another in ghost you have 1 weapon and that weapon never changes no matter the stance and the game is constantly berating you for using the wrong stance against the 4 enemy types you fight.

Im so bored of open world games. Developers think theyre creating lengthy games but theyre always mostly padded by going from point A to point B in an empty vapid world
Its kinda become a mute point now, if your worlds open and empty no one cares. Would be better with more distinct zones you load into, but don't care that its limited because of what is there. Again, it can be done well, but it is a LOT more work to make a Great open world.
@@douglasduda9826 most definitely
Final fantasy 7 rebirth is a truly fleshed out open world game
@@douglasduda9826 probably why the way of the samurai games are so good is due to they are technically open world the moment you start but they slice the world into loaded pieces of the world you can explore

Thank goodness for the "auto sell equipment" feature. It saves so much time with inventory management.
Yooo AJ cameo in rapid fire? OJ gotta appear now
Since the next one is Stellar Blade, I wanna hear Alex start the review saying "welcome to another Rapid Fire Review, this time for Square Enix's next NieR game" and OJ come in and interrupt him with the correction.
Man should pop in, break the game, then Alex reams him in the same tone he uses for the review
"till ya notice me"
When Joe interrupts it wouldve been funny if he walks in front of the game footage in PJs and maybe eating KFC, then say the same stuff he said. It sounded funny in my head at least. Dont kill me youtube comment section lol.

Actually would’ve been pretty hilarious. Take notes, AJ🫵🏽

This game should have gotten a full review
Team Ninja would do anything except Ninja Gaiden 4 😭
Tomonobu was peak
I think Ninja Gaiden 3 was proof enough that they have no idea what the fans actually want...

And that's ok. If you like the game like game
Honestly I’m liking the game I still haven’t finished it cause I work like 60hours a week but I love it, it’s not a 10/10 but for me it’s a solid 8
I get that it was a “fictionalized” version of Sakamoto Ryoma, but I really admired RGG’s take on him in Like A Dragon Ishin more than in this game.
Have been 100%ing every region so far, currently in the last 20% of it and it has been a great ride. They did a terrible job explaining the depth of combat and there is a lot to it.
Forms to level, special skills to farm, weapon switch combos, awesome finishers etc.
Story makes no sense whatsoever but every Team Ninja game except WoLong had a cool hook and this one has a few.
I respect them for not sticking to a formula and trying out different things and i look forward to their next game already.
I agree with you whole heartedly Ive finished 100% the first region and I’ve felt like it was easy fast and fun I haven’t got bored yet. With the amount of different forms and weapons I’m always finding new ways to approach enemies and ultimately style my character. Outside of team ninjas terrible story telling and graphics which I understand due to the amount of cosmetics weapons and abilities. It’s amazingly fun experience. I’m playing on twilight n enjoyed every second.
Thanks for the review Alex! I'll be waiting til its on sale to pick this one up.
I rate this game a 7/10 as well and for many of the same reasons too, but not all of them.

Another great review Alex…ps, Will we get a Helldivers 2 review? I feel like it’d be right up your alley (and yes, I saw your initial play)
The trailers really made this game look way better than it does
Not really. It looked horrible from day one to me.
Bro what it looks like a mobile game Mafia trailer
That's the point of a trailer
Ya they catfishing big time for this ps3 crap lol
Lol no. This looked like Ubisoft open world type slop since the first trailer.
Idk what it is but maybe it's just me but I absolutely adore this game. I think a lot of these critiques are somewhat understandable but this is getting reviewed very harshly for what a game I feel it does things right. But to each their own, I will say if reviews stop you from at least trying a game? This one is worth the price of admission. A lot of the things that happen like fighting your allies out of nowhere is a VERY common thing in Nioh and other Japanese styled rpgs/games. Combat is pretty dang fair with just the right level of difficulty to punish you just enough to learn the move sets and truly feel like a badass. But again, I respect different opinions, just throwing mine in the pot!
I mean, if developers are going to charge $70, people will be more picky with what they decide to play. Glad you enjoy it.
@@jimjones9900 every developer charges $70 what exactly are you asking the developers to do for that price to be fair?

How you tell something super positive and then turn it into a big fat burn is a real rare talent
yeah i agree, its a good game, open world is bland, but at least its not bloated like an ubisoft game. Combat is really good though, if you enjoy nioh / wo long / sekiro combat there is a lot here for you.

I actually vastly prefer the more realistic world depicted in Rise of the Ronin to the overly stylized world in Ghost of Tsushima. More interesting loot and enemy variety also makes the world in Rise of the Ronin more fun to explore as well. Just my opinion.
“I much prefer boring, flat graphics to inspired art direction that properly depicts the beauty of Japan”
Wild, wild take.
@@Goofballhero Nothing boring or flat about the world in Rise of the Ronin. Not sure if you played it though or are just echoing what others have said online.
@@TheShogunate Outside of the litany of trailers and gameplay clips I’ve seen, the only person I know who owns the game is my older brother and I’ve only seen him play in the Yokohama region. You’re practically saying that in order to ascertain a game’s environment and art direction, I need to play through the ENTIRE game before I can make a judgement about its graphics? That makes no sense. You only need a demo of a game to get a sense of its art direction and competency. All I can say is that Ghost of Tsushima’s art direction is applauded in a way Rise of Ronin will _never_ be, and mark my words because already RoR is being criticized for it’s ugly, uninspired and flat graphics along with an overabundance of mundane loot, regardless of your own taste.
@@TheShogunate Name me an environment, location or area in RoR that can even step to Ghost of Tsushima’s Golden Forest, or Spring Falls, or Field of Equinox Flowers, just as a few examples. Because not even the bamboo forests in RoR measure up to GoT.
@@Goofballhero "Properly depicts" aka a weeaboo's perspective of how Asia is. It's like how it takes a japanese company (Fromsoft) to "properly depict the beauty of medieval" in your eyes, whereas western companies always depict the medieval in a more toned-down way, that's because Fromsoft are westaboos. You're a weeaboo, the asians don't see their own countries these ways.

Phenomenal review once again, Alex.
that horse running animation is wild 🤣🤣🤣

stellar blade deserves a full review ngl
Don't hold your breath
I loved Ghost of Tsushima, so much I had to do the platinum trophy. But I am enjoying this game and feel it shouldn't be compared as they both are different in there own ways.
It maybe worth mentioning that the customization in Rise Of The Ronin is superb, from customizing the look of the character to using different skins to allowing you to choose to change the look if your amour to anything you have previously collected and when you change the armor to a better piece it will continue to look how you want rather than change to what the new armor piece looked like. I have made my character look like a fully blacked out sub zero.
Team Ninjas bread and butter is combat so all these extra elements are not needed but I applaud them giving it a go 😎👏👏.
While it is overpriced, i am enjoying the game. It looks decent enough and the combat is fun.
This games is super fun! Reviewers rush through it just to put a video out.
OR MAYBE people just don't like it that much and you can't accept it. There are people who put in 50+ hours and still found it mediocre. Not everyone likes it, get over it.
@@Rnzzy The overall user reception is very positive thus far and critics definitely went into the game with a lot of bias* and it shows, considering that it literally scored quite a bit worse than even Wo Long, which is kind of a joke.
*e.g. RotR got a lot of harsh critique for its open-world formula while other games that do pretty much the same things regularly get a pass for that - most recently FF7 Rebirth.
Haha for a minute there I was thinking 'wait...what? I thought this was team ninja'
I think that addition of Alex to the AJS was one of the best decisions ever made by Joe. Not only does he balance out opinions and tones but his individual videos also pair super well with the values Angry Joe seems to have for games wihle also covering genres Joe isn't familiar with.

Well done Alex. Now, we should get a rapid fire from OJ!
This may as well be an Ubisoft game. It certainly has the Ubisoft formula down to a T... just with more interesting combat.
Even tho I totally understand why people complain about "too much loot" It worries me because then we go from Nioh to Wolong :( from getting potentially too much to ridiculous low amounts, and so I much way much rather get too much then the opposite, so please mention that when you complain plz if you can... great review
What do you mean? All team ninja have exactly the same loot system. In Wolong instead of thoundsands of useless loot they change it to hundreds of useless loot. Not that I ever care about their loot system anyway.
Idk if I’m sounding rude by saying this (I probably am), but I’ve absolutely loved Alex’s reviews over the last bit of time and he’s a much better rapid fire reviewer than Del was. I don’t always agree with Alex’s takes, but he still does an excellent job explaining his points, pros and cons, and coming at it from a casual gamer perspective. When it came to Del, it was very difficult to understand his perspective because he’s someone who can put hundreds of hours into something, eventually trivialize everything, and even say the game becomes way too easy or boring after trivializing it. Not to say Del isn’t a good gamer, just not a great reviewer imo since he has a vastly different perspective compared to most casual gamers.
Long winded way of saying it, but thank you for these bite sized and insightful reviews, Alex. Keep up the good work.
True, not every game is supposed to be played for 100s of hours...most story games Are Not.
I definitely am not the type of person who spends hundreds of hours in any one game, but I do think that insight is valuable in this space. I do agree though, I enjoy Alex’s reviews more because it appeals to how I play games

The combat, setting, hell, even the gorgeous music score are top notch. The good part overshadows the bad one, to the point I want to master every weapon and combat style. In general, the game feels dated, but still, its a game I feel like playing every single day. Drawing distance is not great (why not show all the equipped weapons, also?), NPC routines are too basic, the loot system is quantity over quality. The game would benefit a lot from better populated cities and building interiors. That said, these are minor issues compared to the amazingly crafted combat, in my opinion.
Lol everything you said is basically correct and yet this is some of the most fun I’ve had in a while.
