My Dad and uncles have been restoring vintage trailers as a hobby for decades. It really does have a huge following. They dismantle them completely, piece by piece, then reassemble after restoring each part. Anything that's too far gone to restore they will create another or purchase it online. It's a work of love and they are gorgeous when completed.
One of the trailers my uncle restored he found in a woman's barn and she'd had chickens living in it!
Just goes to show that no trailer is too far gone to be restored. Someone might want to restore it. There are websites for trailer restorers: of you listed it on one you might get a buyer.

What a great old travel trailer. The stories it could tell. It is a shame to see it get trashed. So many of the fixtures in it could be removed and sold for people who need old parts to fix up their remodeled trailer.

    • @PaperandMoose
      @PaperandMoose  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

The tools, ceramics, plastic... those can be wiped down and cleaned. Some items have been kept in bags for so long that they have been protected. Other things just had too much of the elements so couldn't be saved. Pretty much no rhyme/reason as to why some pieces made it out better than others.

Wow, lots of goodies stuffed in the old trailer. Love the Pyrex Amish Butterprint bowls. That print is popular right now. Also love the ceramic Christmas tree. It’s a shame people buy travel trailers and then don’t maintain them properly. It’s not just this hoarder. I was an insurance adjuster for years and so many people buy them and park them outside. The roof seals deteriorate and water leaks in over time. It will completely destroy the trailer and it is usually not covered by insurance. You are such a hard worker Renee. Your enthusiasm is infectious. I always enjoy watching!

This was my favorite of the series, so far. Do you get to keep what you found? Maybe you should look at your ceramic Christmas trees and replace one you have with the one you found, if it's better. You could sell the one you have. I'd wait until November to sell it, though. You'd get more for it. Have you tried Facebook marketplace for larger, more valuable items, like a ceramic Christmas tree? You can arrange to meet a buyer at a police station or other public place for the exchange, to keep your address private.

Wow Renee, who would have thought some of the better stuff was in the trailer and outbuildings. It makes me think she gave stuff away that may have been in the house or the family went through the house, but became overwhelmed and overlooked the outbuildings.... or as the house got full she moved her Christmas outside to store??? Some really nice finds.
The paper would be cute to wrap boxes in to just use as risers in decor or the back of a shadow box. I have a friend who also uses old paper and gift cards to make pendants and magnets. So definitely fun ways to reuse and repurpose. I would think you could lay it out flat and wipe down with a disinfectant wipe... just not sopping wet of course. Let it dry, flip over and repeat. Maybe a light spray of Lysol when done. Then maybe trim off the edges that were more exposed
BTW the trailer really took me back to camping days with my grandparents on the beaches of Washington state. We spent many days, weeks camping with my grandparents. Beach combing by day and sitting by the camp fire playing cards at night. Fun memories.
While people still camp today everyone has to have the newest, biggest and greatest motor homes, and trailers... there is something quite nostalgic with the small older trailers that average people scraped up their savings to buy. I hope you are able to save and use the emblem on the trailer it has a great look.
Please give us a recap of the items you keep before you end the series
    🥰
    Now stay safe while cleaning!!!
Oh and you are all making really good progress!
May I ask did your friend have to buy the contents or are the contents part of the pay off for the service of doing all of this work? Just curious how this is usually done! I could see it being done either way

That shed looks very much like my playhouse dad built in the back yard way back when. The trailer was an upscale unit of its day...probably the 60's vintage. Speaking of house trailers, you should get the 1954 movie..."The Long, Long Trailer". From the looks of the trailer interior, she was a rather clean hoarder! No dead critters or expired, rotting food stuffs! Ah...you did run across an expired critter! You got some neat finds!

Speaking from experience here. I spent half my life trying to "help" my mother. They have to WANT help, WELCOME help, ASK for help. It unfortunately doesn't work that way. My mother was very content in her world the majority of the time. It wasn't until she passed away that anything could be done with the house. I've been documenting the journey on my own TH-cam channel. People don't talk about hoarding (as an illness) enough.

I would have never thought to look in the sleeping bags. My Lawyer said to go through all the books because people stash 💲in the pages.

Trailer closet doors and cabinets latches are made with an extra release in order to stay closed during traveling. Drawers had to be lifted to slide. Spent childhood summers living in a 19 ft Holiday Rambler.

Ive been looking into camping trailers lately. High demand for sure. No doubt someone would pay $1000 for that trailer, don't trash it any more than it already is. Take pics put ad on CL and FMP. Having registration and title would up price a bit.

Whew! What a bunch of fun finds. Your hard work definitely paid off this trip. I love the unique things you found like the linens, holiday paper and unused silverware sets. And what are the chances a beautiful ceramic Christmas tree would be waiting for you. I hope you keep it because it has a great story behind it now.

Loving the clean out series and the longer videos!! Great find with the Pyrex! If I was a collector, I'd be jealous! LOL Best of luck at the flea market!

Your reaction to the pyrex = my reaction too. They're so gorgeous the Amish ones. We don't have anything as bold or bright in pyrex really in the UK (vintage wise), that I've seen anyway.

I know how overwhelming this is, my parents inherited the contents of a late aunt's large apartment, she wasn't even a hoarder, but the work was overwhelming. My aunt was a widow, but never had children, my father was her last surviving sibling. The weeks we spent going through her items, while she was still alive and in a nursing home, was extremely time consuming. We ended up giving most of the furniture to her super, I kept two Danish Modern sideboards, which were a perfect size for my flat screen TV. We took all the glassware, two small TVs and other useful items. I contributed her clothing to Goodwill. There was little real jewelry, my mom kept the all the jewelry, there were also some interesting vintage costume jewelry pieces. My aunt had some nice vintage Pyrex bowls and a brand-new still boxed CorningWare teapot. There were boxes of family photos, which we've yet to distribute to the people who want them.
