      Jealousy and envy that is all that I can come up with.
      Sally and her playing are simply lovely

      Envy is the right word.
      Jealousy is the characteristic of wanting someone all to
      oneself, not wanting the person who one is obsessed with to escape one's control. HUGE DIFFERENCE.

    Sally showed me such beautiful and interesting places in this intermezzo that the work inspired me to further practice and discover Schumann's compositions ... I like Estrella, Chiarina or Chopin from the carnival ... I love poets from children's scenes ... and here you have shown me another dimension of Schumann ... his probably most intimate ... love and passion ... Thank you and I hope that you will bring many more inspiring videos. 👍😊

    Dear Sally, I have known and loved this heavenly piece for a long time and as a hobby pianist with intermediate level I found it too difficult for my level...until I watched your tutorial!! With your structured and clear analysis and the charts on your website, I have started practicing this piece and pretty sure that it will work out! Thanks again and keep up the great work :) Best regards from Germany, Abdalla

      @SallyChristianMusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello Filip, thank you for your meaningful words. I know the F Major resolution you are talking about. This measure in the very low register of the piano fills my being with great stillness. It is a brief repose to catch our breath before the next section of driving relentlessness resumes. Thank you for your insightful comment, and best wishes to you.

    Don't you think this could be thought of as a joyful and light reminiscence of Beethoven's moonlight sonata ? Thanks for sharing this magnificent moment.

    • @SallyChristianMusic
      @SallyChristianMusic  10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I do hear similarities to the Moonlight Sonata; three-part writing, melody in the soprano, an interior voice in broken triads, and a foundational bass line that gives support & grandeur. Both works are such powerful and personal statements. Thanks for your comments!

      @SallyChristianMusic  10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ...and let's not forget to mention those fabulous dissonances in both pieces!!!

    I CANNOT THINK OF A MORE HEART-STIRRING PIECE OF MUSIC FOR ITS
    LENGTH THAN THIS MASTERPIECE BY ROBERT SCHUMANN.
    AS PROFESSORESSA CHRISTIAN MENTIONED IN HER TUTORIAL ON THIS PIECE, INSPIRED BY ROBERT'S LOVE FOR HIS WIFE CLARA, CLARA SCHUMANN WROTE IN TURN ABOUT MUSIC: "ART, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL GIFT
    INDEED. WHAT IS MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN TO CLOTHE ONE'S FEELINGS IN SOUND."
    I JUST RE-MEMORIZED A POEM BY WILLIAM ERNEST HENLEY, (WHICH I REDACTED), TITLED: "SOME LATE LARK SINGING." THE WAY THIS INTERMEZZO SINGS, AND WITH ITS SERIOUS, SERENE AND MELANCHOLIC ATMOSPHERE, IT IS A FITTING PIECE OF MUSIC TO PLACE WITH
    THIS POEM BY HENLEY, PARTICULARLY BECAUSE OF HOW SIMILARLY EMOTIONALLY
    PULLING THEY BOTH ARE AT THE END.
    "YOU WILL BE FOREVER
    ALTERED HAVING THIS MUSIC IN YOUR HEART"
    PROFESSORESSA CHRISTIAN EMPHASIZED AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE TUTORIAL. I TRUST
    ALL WHO READ THIS POEM SHALL BE SIMILARY BLESSED.
    "A LATE LARK TWITTERS FROM THE QUIET SKIES.
    AND FROM THE WEST, WHERE THE RECEDING SUN, HIS DAY'S WORK ENDED, LINGERS IN CONTENT, THERE FALLS UPON THE OLD GRAY CITY AN INFLUENCE LUMINOUS AND SERENE, A SHINING PEACE. AND THE LARK SINGS ON.
    FROM YON RUSTIC CHIMNEYS SMOKE ASCENDS IN A ROSY-GOLDEN HAZE, CATHEDRAL SPIRES GLISTEN AND ARE CHANGED, AND ALL ACROSS THE RESPLENDENT, VERDANT,
    STREAM-FED VALLEY SHADOWS RISE, AND LAMPS ARE LIT, AS THE EBBING SUN, CLOSING HIS BENEDICTION, SOLEMNLY SINKS AWAY,
    USHERING IN THE DARKENING SKIES OF DUSK, THAT THRILL WITH A SENSE OF THE IMPENDING TRIUMPHANT, WONDROUS NIGHT. NIGHT! WITH HER TRAIN OF HEAVENLY INCANDESCENT STARS AND HER BENEVOLENT GIFT OF LIFE-SUSTAINING SLEEP.
    AND THE LARK SINGS ON.
    SO BE MY PASSING. WITH MY TASKS ACCOMPLISHED AND MY DAYS WORK DONE,LET ME BE GATHERED TO THE QUIET WEST, MIDST A CLOUD-RIFTED SUNSET
    RAPTUROUS AND SERENE. AND WHEN THE NIGHT GROWS DARK AND MY LAST BREATH DIES AWAY, YET STILL, DEEP
    WITHIN MY GRATEFUL
    HEART, SOME LATE LARK
    SINGING.

      THE EXPERIENCE OF WATCHING YOUR TUTORIAL ALONG WITH MY UNABASHED LOVE FOR THIS PROFOUND PIECE OF MUSIC REINFORCES MY FEELING OF HOW IF I WERE A PIANIST IT WOULD BE MY FAVORITE FINAL ENCORE PIECE. BUT MUCH MORE THAN THAT, IT DAWNED ON ME
      THAT AS FINE AS ALL OF THE OTHER MOVEMENTS ARE IN THEIR OWN WAY, THE EMOTIONAL IMPACT
      OF THE INTERMEZZO IS NONPAREIL. SO MUCH SO THAT, IF I WERE A PIANIST, I WOULD SHIFT THE INTERMEZZO TO THE FINALE, WITH IT BEING WRITTEN IN THE PROGRAM AND EVEN BEING ANNONCED FROM THE STAGE THE REASONS, I.E., THAT WE WOULD NOT HAVE THIS PIECE WERE IT NOT FOR ROBERT'S LOVE FOR CLARA. ALONG WITH THE EMOTIONAL WEIGHT OF THE PIECE, IT WOULD HAVE MUCH MORE IMPACT BEING PLAYED AT THE CONCLUSION, RATHER THAN IT BEING POSITIONED WHERE SCHUMANN PLACED IT. THE MOVEMENT FOLLOWING THE INTERMEZZO CHANGES IN MOOD AND TEMPO SO SEVERELY THAT THE INTERMEZZO GETS LOST, WHERAS IF IT APPEARED AT THE END, THE EFFECT WOULD BE STUNNING, AND LINGER ON AS THE AUDIENCE FILED OUT OF THE VENUE. THE EFFECT WOULD LAST FOR HOURS FOR SCHUMMAN FANS, TO BE SURE, AND "A FOREVER HEART-ALTERING RECITAL EXPERIENCE" (TO KIND OF EXPAND ON WHAT YOU SAID), FOR MANY PATRONS. I GET CHILLS JUST THINKING ABOUT IT.🥶
      PERHAPS A PIANIST MAY TRY THIS SOME DAY. OF COURSE WHAT WE WOULD GET IS THE EFFECT OF THE ENDING OF TCHAIKOVSKY'S 6TH SYMPHONY, SCHUBERT'S UNFINISHED SYMPHONY, ET. AL. IT WOULD BE DELIGHTFUL IF A CONTESTANT AT A MAJOR PIANO COMPETITION MADE THE SWITCH AFTER AN ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE STAGE.
      IN CONCLUSION, WHAT IF RACHMANINOFF HAD COMPOSED A SET OF "VARIATIONS ON THE INTERMEZZO
      FROM FANTASY PIECES OF VIENNA."😃 🌠✨💥

    She obviously knows music theory very well, but if I had to break it out into sections and printouts the way she does, I would end up being sick of the piece; it just ends up becoming a pedantic exercise. What's wrong with just making handwritten notes into the score?

    • @Janaceks_Dad
      @Janaceks_Dad 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But the Op. 26 is tough...I gave up trying to play it after hearing de Larrocha's live Carnegie Hall performance, which was so good that I doubt it could ever be matched by anyone.
