I love this version by Rolf, its so much fun, he made a bit of a gloomy song into a happy song somehow.
Changing the guitar solo to Trumpet and Sax was a perfect move, made the performance shine just that little bit more.
On the occasional remarks that this is all playback and auto-tuned, i feel those remarks mostly come from people who tune in to generic pop stations in general. (nothing wrong with that btw)
The problem, i think, lies with the lack of understanding how live performances come to be, and how they work.
It's simply not a matter of plugging in a mic and expecting it to sound good enough for a live performance, there is a whole array of filters, effects, limiters and compressors behind that, to make it all work for a live performance.
So when people hear some delay on the voice, something that adds a little echo effect to help sustain and warmth of the vocals, people mistake it for Auto-tune.
Even seen people claim that they sequenced the tracks, which means they have to pre-record it, because you cannot do that in a live setting.
Tim had a funny moment in one of his duets, lost his text and ended up with "Pizza Calzone" instead of original lyrics.
I guess a certain percentage of people, cannot believe people can sing like this these days, which is a shame, because that means they never saw the live music shows of the past either, where you saw people like Glen Campbell perform with Willie Nelson or Roy Clark, who all sounded just as good as this. (decades before that evil invention of auto-tune)

I'm in LOVE with this version too. It does justice to the original while also showing Rolf's personality as a musician and performer (and all that charisma he has!), and it never feels odd or out of place.
I keep going back to it and to Floor's version of Que Se Siente, which was probably my favorite on the show.

This is slightly a Reggae meets Latin version. Awesome take on a classic. Whole different vibe from the song.

I like this version and honestly I am Dutch but I never heard of Rolf Sanchez. I love this program because it is live and they sing great songs for each other. Please listen to Danny Vera he composed a number Roller Coaster which was a number one hit in the Netherlands. He was not at this show hoping it will be next year.
This was the performance from Rolf that blew me away. This will be one of those performances people will still react to in a couple of years, because they somehow missed the boat this year. It's similar to outstanding performances from past seasons that now all of a sudden people are reacting to, because they just found out about this show.
By the way, two performances of the past years you could react to is OG3NE - Sing from 2016 (it has a really interesting technique, on top of their incredible singing skills already) and Tania Kross & Tommie Christiaan - Barcelona from 2017.

One of the charms of this show is the exploring of each others stories and styles and just having fun making music with and for each other. I feel that this performance is a good example of that. It very much reminds me of the fun we had back in the days when we headed for the beach with friends to have fun singing, playing guitars, flutes and what not, simply enjoying each others contribution and company. To me that's the feel of "beste zangers".
Rolf Wienk(Sanchez) father is from the Netherlands, his mother is from the Dominican Republic.
After this show, Rolf also became real famous in the Netherlands.
Marcel Fisser is the band leader.

lol, I had it right the first time! When I was filming I said it right and then I got all flustered and edited out my ramblings... And I still stumble over Marcel Fisser. The double ss in both names but spelled differently trips me up. Thanks for your patience. :)

His real name is Rolf Wink, like his Dutch father. Sanchez is his mother's maiden name which he uses because it's a better name to use for his fans in Latin American countries. So its the other way around. His mother is Dominican an his father is Dutch.
Talking about lack of autotune and other modern cheats, I noticed some youtube video of early sixties (!) television performances of Barbra Streisand and Judy Garland performing together, such beautiful melt of voices, such a talent...
to answer the question of if its prerecorded or not, there is one, ermm, one of the duets, where tim gets the words wrong, and laughs, so not prerecorded, also with tim, when he does his duet with floor, the last chorus he is very quiet, you would expect them to level the volumes if prerecorded

And yes, I still find it incredible that folks thinks it's pre-recoded. The band and the singers are just that good. So much music, including with so called , top artists, are just layered digitized tracks, with beats and auto-tuned voices. When you haven't ever experienced hearing such great musicians make great music on the spot, it can be hard to understand how it's done. It takes years, if not decades, of practicing and performing to reach that level of mastery.
@@VocalSplendorStudios I think people are suspicious because they mixed the live audio recordings in the studio afterwards. This was all recorded live, but months before the first episode aired. Simultaniously with the airing of the episode they released all the songs from that episode as singles on a music label (Cornelis Music). What you hear on tv is the studio-mixed audio from the live recordings with the audio from the singers on the couch on top of that I'm pretty sure. So they did balance audio levels I think. It's especially apparent to me with Emma Heesters - Sex Machine
@@VocalSplendorStudios I think that this misconception is also being caused by the fact that the reactors do not always have the video in perfect sync with the sound. And then it’s easy to think that the singer is lipsyncing. And another thing is that people are suspicious and distrustful by nature. They expect imperfections, so If someone does an exceptional, flawless performance then they don’t understand how that is possible and they say it must be a fraud. Which of course is not true.
@@tarsiusbancanus5279 That's true. However I have heard mobile phone recordings from live Floor Jansen performances and she is exactly the same as on this program even with studio improvements. As to what level they can actually change the singers voice is debatable. Remember these singers on this program aren't hacks. They are on here because they are good. I would doubt they need any studio enhancement.
Somewhere in the comments of a Beste Zangers reaction video I saw: 'His teeth are brighter than my future.' That cracked me up. lol

Rolf is living 6 months a year in Miami. And the other 6 in The Netherlands. SO I think thats why his English really good.
Just wanna get this out there too. All TV shows, DVD's , anything that has a crew, has an editing department that always does some minor cleanup after it's recorded, ( overall volume control, background noises, cutting some length to make sure it fits in the time alloted. ) Also, let's think about this. What do these artists do that most mainstream U.S artists don't do. Study music from a very young age, or start their first band at a very young age, so that by the time they move away from home, they have complete mastery. What do we do? Oh, this artist is gorgeous, let's give them some dancers and write 4 lines for them to sing over and over. Give me any of these 7 over that. I did sub :)

Actually Valerie the Beste Zangers get eachothers songlists in November and rehearse their chosen songs/duets with the Marcel Fisser Band till April of the next year. In April they fly off to the Spanish island of Ibiza where their songs are recorded in 4-5 (long) days with the same band. They are not lip-synced! But the takes are fine tuned afterwards. So nothing is pre recorded. You can even hear crickets in the background.
The show appears in August in 7 shows on tv in The Netherlands.
If you want to react to earlier seasons of beste zangers, a good place to start is maria fiselier (an opera singer)rapping lose yourself by eminem (season 2018) or 'Barcelona ' done by tania kross and tommie cristiaan(season 2017) Both are equally wonderful :)

I want to say that Valerie is right. These musicians are realy of super quality. For instance the man with the black bandage, who is playing the sax is called Hubert Heeringa. I have seen him playing live in the theatre several times. And my eyes are always attrackted to him because he is a stunning musician. After I have seen him a few times I saw him also a lot of times in big shows on televison. He can play many instruments. Thanks again for another great reaction video. I love them. :) Also about the online discussion about lipsyncing in this show. People who think all the artists on this show are using lipsync... Check the duet from Ruben and Tim called "De Kapitein deel 2" from the duets episode ( th-cam.com/video/6Ae6HWxrOkw/w-d-xo.html ). Most of the time Tim is just 'doing something' instead of singing the lyrics. Or check the duet with Tim and Samantha ( also on this reaction channel ;) )... I think that people say it's prerecorded, because they don't think that a Singer can actually sing without Autotune and Mix&Master.
What I can highly recommend is "Jimmy Fallon's 'Wheel of Musical impressions'" with Guests like Christina Aguilera or Jamie Foxx which are performing random generated Songs LIVE on Show. It's really hilarious to watch =)

Thank you for your reactions. I love it so much. I hope I may suggest an option. It's a song who gaves me a lot of strenght about the time I have had epilepsy. It's a song from 'Beste zangers'' form another season. I suggested it a week ago, but I forgot the link. I'ts a Dutch group of three girls. They use a technique called 'echoing'. (Count on melody). There is no best singer for all people. How do you chose the best flower or the best beer or the best fruit? You can't! It's all comes down to personal taste.
