A first year acting school try to do Slumber Party Massacre..
And this was the RESTORED version they Riffed. The original print of this flick, according to a CinePost restorer (Eric Hoffman) on Facebook, was, unbelievably, FAR WORSE:
"I recut and restored this one at Cinepost back in 2001. If you think it sounds/looks bad now, hoo boy you should've seen the original cut.
-There was a high pitched whine through the whole movie. I think it was the film squeal. Intolerable though, it blanketed everything above 5khz. There's still one or two scenes where you can hear it. In some scenes it was louder than the dialogue, and the dialogue was compressing to the whine. Cool Edit's noise reduction got a lot of work on that project.
The "quality" dialogue had no high end at all. Couldn't make out anything anyone was saying.
Also, the audio was 2 channel mono with constant dropouts, so I had to dupe channels every other second for it to sound consistent. And that glam rock theme song was gritty high mid and nothing else. For real, I put it on a logarithmic scale and there was nothing in any other bandwidth.
-The original editing was TERRIBLE. Some of the cuts briefly flipped back to the previous scene, sometimes it was just a black screen for a second. Had to make some hard slices and I'm pretty cure I cut about 15 seconds out of the running time, but at least it looks better.
-If you think the several, "It was all a dream" segments were confusing and disorienting as a viewer, they were a gateway to madness as an editor. I had timecode post-its all over the desk so I could keep track of which fake out sequence I was currently in. There are three, four if you count the last one. Oh, and I had to rebalance white levels and color correction for every individual scene. The original print was a rainbow of vomit.
When Rifftrax got a hold of it I was relieved to see the work held up. I had every doubt in the world about it when I did it, mostly because when something is made that badly, it's hard to believe anything you do can make it better."
So, yeah. This Rifftrax version is as GOOD as this "movie" will EVER be presented.
