    Awesome video, Russell! I've been looking into APP and glad to see your thoughts on it. Yikes on the 2600, though I know I guy who made a good video tutorial for cleaning your sensor lol.

      Thanks Nick! Yeah pretty gutted about the 2600mm, I’m planning on cleaning it this weekend, so wish me luck!

    Nicely done, Russell. You know, I have never gotten a good image of Andromeda yet. I might give it another try.

      Thank you Pat. I find it such a difficult target to get a good image of, I’m pretty happy with this one though! I’m sure you won’t regret shooting it again 👍

    Great image Russell. I have been doing all my calibration and stacking in APP for a while now as I definitely preferred the results I was getting compared to Pixinsight. I think your APP stack looked a lot more natural as you said but also seemed to have a lot more detail without the noise. I'm a little nervous now about my 2600mmPro after seeing yours have that silicone leak issue.

      Thanks Logan, APP was great, I’ll definitely be using it moving forward. 👍

    Hey Russell! - man, I can't believe you've had such bad luck with that silicone leak on the cam :-( I'm sure it'll clean off just fine but what a real pain in the butt all the same!
    Beautiful image and I have to agree with the other commenters so far, your APP version looks plainly better! - I will probably need to look into buying this software at some point, from what I hear it's stacking is extremely robust and a lot more efficient than PixInsight's anyway.
    Your spinning moon desk ornament is absolutely dope by the way!!
    Clear skies :-)

      Thanks very much Luke, I was really impressed with APP, I wasn't expecting there to be much of a difference between PI and APP, but I was really shocked when I compared the stacked images. It was definitely quicker than PI as well and the user interface was all pretty straight forward...I'll definitely be using it moving forward. Clear skies mate 👍

    Nice capture Russell! I also use APP to stack and then PI and PS to edit. I find that APP just does a much better job at stacking and is also much faster and less CPU intensive.

    • @RussellsAstrophotography
      @RussellsAstrophotography  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Joe, yes I was really impressed with APP, I wasn't expecting much difference between the two images so was pretty shocked to see them side by side. You're right, it is definitely much quicker and less CPU intensive...I will be using it for all my images moving forward 👍

    Great job with both Russell. I do like the darker dust lanes APP produced and the colors are nice. I kind of prefer the less saturated colors in the pixinsight image.... So really they both are wonderful its just a matter of preference. Maybe when our skies finally clear I'll give andromeda another go. This was also my first target when I started last year and have yet to go back to it. Clear skies and hope you get your issues withe the 2600mm resolved.

      Thanks very much James, I'm planning to clean the camera sensor tomorrow so wish me luck 😂 Andromeda is such a great target, I'm sure you will enjoy re-shooting it. @@markmcmanus7124 PI is incredible, it has so many amazing features and truly is an extremely powerful tool. Having said that, there is a steep learning curve, it’s not an intuitive program to use. I’ve been using it for over a year now and I feel like I only know about 15% of the program. There are loads of great tutorials on TH-cam though, visible dark, Amy’s Astro, joes Astrophoto etc all do really amazing tutorials. If you spend the time learning PI it is very powerful indeed 👍

    hard to choose which I like, each have their own strengths.. Is this an Issue with the 2600mm?? the leak? I'm looking at the 2600mm for my mono camera but I've seen this issue with other 2600's too.

    • @RussellsAstrophotography
      @RussellsAstrophotography  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes unfortunately it's an issue with the ASI2600mm. I have heard a lot of people have had the same issue. I contacted ZWO and they send me a PDF on how to clean it which is my job for the weekend...not very impressed to be honest, but apart from this know issue (which should be solved with a clean) it is a fantastic camera 👍

    That´s my story, too. Some year ago I did visual astronomy, but it is hard in or region to see something, you have to travel a lot and as my mount had problems i go rid of it. Last year I bought a start tracker and Andromeda was the target, since then I´m in the business again.

    APP takes first prize for me! Love the PI image as well but it’s definitely a cooler looking image vs the warmth coming through in the APP version.
    Question - do you use any type of filter for galaxy images?
    Thanks for the captivating and motivating videos as always!

    • @RussellsAstrophotography
      @RussellsAstrophotography  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Jon, I agree the APP image is much nicer. I really wasn’t expecting a difference after stacking, so was pretty shocked seeing them side by side. I’ll definitely be using APP more moving forward.
      No, I don’t use any filters for my galaxy images. I’m lucky that I live in a bortle 4/5 area, so I don’t think that any light pollution filters would make a huge difference. I know a lot of people do add Ha data into Galaxy images, but I’ve not tried that yet, maybe something I could try moving forward.
      Thanks for watching as always Jon, I do really appreciate your support 👍

    • @RussellsAstrophotography
      @RussellsAstrophotography  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Paul, really appreciate it. I really struggle with colors being color blind. I know what you mean though the colors in the PI image are maybe slightly less saturated? I tend to be drawn to more saturated images…I know it’s not to everyone’s taste.

    The APP colors are a bit too much. It's not because a software can that you have to. Matter of taste.... that reminds me of 20 years ago when text processing software became available with hundreds of fonts. People felt the urge to use them all in one document.😂

      @RussellsAstrophotography  3 ปีที่แล้ว
