It's amazing how Hollywood has forgotten about popcorn flicks. No message, not trying to be art. Just a hour of action.

      @Bayley4ever 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I think it's more the action genre to start with. And this is a far fetched over the top portrayal of twisters. The original one 20 or so years ago was given the same treatment. A lot of scientific inaccuracies, that people outside of the media also latch onto. Haven't seen it, probably won't. but that isn't a political or any other statement. I don't watch as much as I used too. Saw the original and really did like it. So I doubt people are panning it because it wasn't political, probably more of mindless entertainment.

It's a decent enough simple story that sort of retreads the original, but adds commentary on copycat youtube channels without being too "updated". The tornadoes are really cool and the leads are very likable.

@@Bayley4ever I would laugh whenever they showed the F5 in the original since for some reason they added an animalistic snarling and growling sound to it. Doubt I'll go to a theater to see this new one, might catch it when it comes to TV.

@@gloriathomas3245It's been a while since I've watched. But from what I remember, Alien Nation the movie was far less political than Alien Nation the series. It was basically a buddy cop comedy drama with aliens.
But on the political side, I would note that the alien "aliens" in this case, had no choice in whether they were on the planet or not. They crashed. And Earth clearly doesn't have the technology to boot them out. Totally different situation than modern criminal aliens, still human, flooding our borders.

You can make movies that preach a narative and make money, but in most cases it dates the movie and ruins it's rewatchablity and in most cases it turns off half the audience to start. You want to make a movie that casts the largest net to catch the largest amount of movie go'ers
Make a fun movie that just entertains today, it will entertain 1 year, 5 years, 20 years from now.

To be fair, I'm also kinda surprised its doing well. After all, its not like the original is in anyway lacking in terms of quality or effects,
like you might say about movies from the 80's or earlier. But that's Hollywood for you. They just cant think of anything new or original anymore.
They are doing the same shit over and over again, just much worse as the previous one and sprinkle it with a lil bit of "modern audience tweaking"
that cringes out half the audience... Sad.

Unless the weather is specifically affected by global warming like in "Day After Tomorrow" it doesn't need to come up plus these days subtle messaging in entertainment is practically a lost art and trying to paint this as appealing to red states (because that's where tornadoes usually show up) would be like claiming "San Andreas" as leaning left because it takes place on the west coast (where earthquakes mostly happen).

Existential threats do a great job during hard times in reality, because people want an Escape or to unite against a giant alien bug! This is one reason Godzilla Minus One did so well, add in, good writing, story for just the sake of story and it's not too surprising. Plus, twisters scare alot of people, honestly if Hollywood dished out a lot of good, monster/existential threat new stories like ex: Attack of The Magma Wave! People would probably go and also middle America needs entertainment too.

I just woke up... Opened TH-cam and saw the Title... "Apolitical 'Twisters' Makes BANK at the Box Office. Media is CONFUSED." - I have thoughts ... In fact they are the same thoughts I have always had and I am very sure that 99% of people will scream "FINALLY, SOMEONE WHO GETS IT!"
We go to movies and play games to be ENETERTAINED... We all know that Politics is in everything... A Creator will always "Lean" towards their personal beliefs in any media they create... And for DECADES, Most of us were fine with that!
The problem was when People started DEMANDING ...
Most Folks in my view dont care f a character in a Game or Movie is Gay, Trans, whatever... We dont! We dont care... As long as the Character has a purpose in teh overall story, How they identify or choose to sleep with does not mean a thing! Evidence? GAME OF THRONES... I remember the first episode I ever saw of that show and Two Gay Men were very obviously on screen as the sound designers made sure you could hear what was happening... MASSIVE SUCCESS! Because most of the show was actually BLOODY GOOD! The fact they were "In a Relationship" served a Narrative purpose ... And most folks were fine with that!
LIFE IS STRANGE - Massive Bloody Hit... Not because it was "Groundbreaking" for featuring a LGBTQ+ Female Protagonist but because again, It was a GOOD GAME, And the characters served a Narrative Purpose!
People are simply sick to death of being Lectured and Activist Types shoving Certain Demographics in our face for no other reason than "Representation" - I am damn sure that been the most Right Wing Viewer you have has at least ONE LGBTQ+ Friend, because that's life... In reality - We dont care if someone is a PoC, or Otherwise Oriented in most cases... Everyone is EQUAL and deserves respect, so we do that!
The fact that "Representation" is constantly being Pushed to many looks like a bid to be seen a "Superior" - When in truth, Most of us just get along! Media is NOT reflecting Reality and people are sick of it...
We just want GOOD STORIES, ENTERTAINING GAMES... You ca have a PoC Character, A LGBTQ+ Character, and we will all be fine with it - As long as they are not a Token, As long as it makes narrative sense... We are sick of characters being on screen ion movies saying shit like "It's Cause I am Black, Innit?" - There is a REASON THAT SAYING BECAME A BLOODY JOKE!!!
We dont want Characters on screen just to say "Ummmm, Hello... Respect my Pronouns! I'm a They / Them... Thank You ... Oh Jesus! Nancy just had her throat slit by a Psycho Killer!!!!"
Hey Hollywood... THE AUDIENCE ACTUALLY CAN THINK! WE KNOW WHEN YOU ARE PANDERING AND WHEN CHARCATERS ARE SIMPLY "HEADLINE TOKENS" TO PLEASE ACTIVISTS! - So Stop doing this!
We are NOT Racists, We are Not Transphobes, or any other slur people want to throw out... We just want GOOD NARRATIVE STORIES! We literally do not care if the Main Character of a Tomb Raider Reboot (Bad Example... Of course people care about Lara Croft but lets have fun here!) is actually about Lara Croft who was Born Tyrone Dunkly in the Bronx as long as IT FITS THE NARRATIVE AND THE STORY IS GOOD! And my apologies if your name is Tyrone... I just made some shit up at random!
Can it be said any simpler? Tell you what... Why dont we point at movies PRE-REPRESENTATIONGATE that were Massive hits Despite being what we now call "Woke" - And prove a point?
TO WONG FU, WITH LOVE JULIE NEWMAR
PRISCILLA - QUEEN OF THE DESERT
    TOOTSIE
Yeah, The representation has always been there... Activists CHOOSE to ignore it as it ruins their "Victimhood" - But we in the audience, We know! We know teh representation had always been there.. Can it be better? Yes... Everything can always be better... And Hollywood has many dark secrets... It has not always been LGBTQ+ Friendly, We all know that! - But Pandering to Activists or "Over Correction" to hide your sins does not make Good Movies!
Time for Hollywood and the Media to actually WAKE UP!
EDIT: Yeah... Not Touching the subject of Climate Change was a GREAT IDEA... It does not matter to most of us if the Climate Change Threat is Real or a Hoax... Because one thing we do know and all accept is that Nature can be a B**ch! We do know that Climate Change is a Natural Occurrence ... It WILL HAPPEN! It is Inevitable - At some point in a few thousand years or a few Million, The Climate will change so drastically that all Human Life will be extinct! That is proven scientific fact!
The only debate in Climate Change Politics is of WE are making it worse??? And while science says Yes... So far all the prediction Models have not been accurate... According to most Scientists, We should already be dead! The Public dont care for "Hypotheticals" - When we see a Movie about Twisters, We want to see the real world effects on US! Because what happens in the Future is not affecting us directly... But a Twister can hit today and kill HUNDREDS of people!!!
THAT is what people focus on... What is NOW, What can affect us in this moment... Not Several Hundred Years in the future if we "Dont make Changes" - It may sound callous but its true! Most of us are more concerned with "Can I pay by Bills this month?" - Not with "Should I buy an Electric Car so that in 1000 Years my descendants will still be alive?"
