Shout out to Kane Kosugi being the only actor to have played a Sentai Ranger (NinjaBlack), an Ultraman (Powered), and a Kamen Rider (Daimon), while also being the son of martial arts Master Sho Kosugi. Update: Masashi Taniguchi has become the second man to achieve the toku trifecta, being GoBlue, Amazon Alpha/Falchion, and briefly becoming Ultraman Decker.
5:20 , the SSSS actually stands for "Special Signature to Save a Soul" within the show itself , also as a reference to the American adaptation of the original series, "Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad".
5:20 Despite cool connections, Trigger deconfirmed it; it's Special Signature to Save a Soul in Gridman and Scarred Souls Shine Like Stars in Dynazenon
I heard that WildBrain (formerly DHX Media, which bought out DiC) did not allow Tsuburaya to use the Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad name in the SSSS part of SSSS Gridman for some reason. Dunno if it's true, but I read that before.
Thank you for including Captain Power! I absolutely loved this show growing up, especially Soar-on (the birdbot). Fun fact: this was a J. Michael Straczynski production (Babylon 5), which is a big part why the writing was darker and more serious for a kids show of that era. This show is probably the biggest reason I love toku as much as I do nowadays. Keep up the good work!
Aquabats was a real indie band before it was a toku show. I called it indie but to be honest several of their song was in the Billboard chart in late 90's. I still remember that. That band really was from that long ago. Even before the whole scene kid movement revive their popularity. If anything their live gig is like a toku stage show that you can see in Japan. Complete with the monster on stage and fight scene skit.
Ryujin Mayuber is an Okinawan Tokusatsu with a green hero based on the Shisha and blue hero based on a dragon. I didn’t watch it, but I remember seeing some of it and getting a keychain when I lived in Okinawa.
Haha wait, the moment aquabats were on the screen tripped me up because they just played at a local venue and my friends were posting about them, today was my first time hearing about them!
Me when I get to 8:43 in the video: “Because of TH-cam’s polluted atmosphere, Marcos can only retain his video for 3 (more) minutes. Time is running out…”
I’m really glad you mentioned Bibleman. I grew up in church, so I watched it a lot. Sometimes I go back to it just for fun, and it’s actually still pretty good. Definitely very Christian, but it works as a plot device.
They used space ships to fire back at the action on the Captain Power series, rather than guns. They did have water guns and toy guns but none of them were used to interact with the show. That would have really made the parent groups even more rabid than they already were at the time the show aired. Also worth noting with Captain Power is they made a commercial that cut into a commercial making it look like a message from the future. One of the coolest advertisements for a property ever. Alien Fighters had a different take on the teen hero dynamic. None of them were friends and none of them had anything in common. Its corny but I do have a soft spot for that series too. Glad I got the DVD set when it came out, its long out of print. I wish they would re-release it. The Aquabats was also influenced by Sid and Marty Krofft.
The SSSS winds up meaningful in the ending of the series, otherwise, no need to put too much thought into it until you get there. Looking forward to Gridman Universe next year!
i'll give Super Human Samurai Cyber Squad some points on having Tim Curry play the lead Villain Kilokhan, sersiously, more power ranger-ish villains need some Tim Curry-sma
A video on Gridman would be fun! I really loved SSSS Gridman and still have yet to see SSSS DynaZenon. It is so awesome there is going to be an anime movie of it too.☺
Lego had a line called galidor that got a tv show to promote it that would emit white noise at a frequency that you couldnt hear, but could be picked up by a toy and play specific voice lines and stuff like that
If you do another vid. You could mention Legacy of the Silver Shadow from the land down under (all the fight scenes are told in still images). Also Aljin Abella (Theo from jungle fury) plays one of the main characters. Used to watch it on occasion on cbbc in the uk
Not sure if this counts, but I'd love to see the live action Amazing Spider-Man show in the next one of these For clarification, I'm talking about the short lived American live action Spider-Man series, not Leopardon Spider-Man
5:44 the aquabats are a real life ska punk band. They had a drummer in the mid 90s called The Baron Von Tito. In 1997 they went on your along with an up and coming band called blink-182 that their drummer seemed pretty into, which lead to him abandoning his toku hero duties in 1998 to join them under his civilian name, Travis Barker.
Regarding the opening for Powered, the vocal version which was Japan release only still is better, sang ironically by Tatsuya Maeda, aka the guy who sang the Blue Swat opening a year after Powered. Marcos better give it a listen. Also, like that you ended the video with the words that made me think "is this a Cowboy Bebop reference?" XD
Oh yeah the uncle bats supershow yeah I remember this when I was a kid yeah I watch it on Apple TV and it’s real good but really it’s old ass weird shit that I do love and really yeah so yeah as a fan of it I really do love it
Yeah maybe to me really I wish they actually have a crossover maybe something good maybe something cool something we have to wait for like 1 billion years
Keep in mind that Bibleman was specifically marketed for Christian families, and yes I grew up with episodes of it on vhs. So does Henry Danger count as toku? Despite being a sitcom, it has special effects, and even transformation sequences.
Most live action superhero shows fall into that category, whether or not it's well received by toku fans. A lot of stateside shows focus more on comedy than action, a whiplash if you're used to only overseas toku.
Ultraman Towards the Future aired hear in Ohio around when it came out. The main problem was they kept switching around the time slot. I saw Ultraman Powered on TH-cam at one point. Tbh, it was a struggle to finish it.
Hey if you plan to do a part 6 try to include a legend Of the white dragon it's a it's a movie by Batman the sun and Jason David Frank remember that remember that it's coming out in March of next year
I actually seen that toy from Kamen Rider Black that acts kinda like the Captain Power things. The link is a 15 sec video but it does demonstrate it pretty well tbh. Toku belt reviewers on yt do have videos on it as well but not as well demonstrated like this link. th-cam.com/video/3_3CwI1yUII/w-d-xo.html
If you want a niche tokusatsu video then look up Hiidantsip vs Hiidhalonen by the Estonian comedy show Tujurikkuja. It’s Ultraman but the hero and villain being the Estonian and Finnish prime ministers. If I remember correctly the plot is about the Finns attacking Estonia out of jealousy.
Idk if this counts as toku or not but when I was a young boy, when I visited my aunt in Singapore I watched an episode of a children’s show called GX5, it’s about a bunch of kids fighting bad guys in cyberspace. Has this sentai-ish feel to it so it might count(?)

And Ryu Hayabusa in the Dead or Alive movie!
Also Kazama in Godzilla Final Wars
also reprised his role as Ultraman Powered in the english dub for UGF TAC
Maybe Kane is a Bridge Between 2 Sides pf the World.
& his Dad is Type Cast as the Ninja Actor.
Did you know that because of the earths polluted atmosphere ultraman can only retain his gigantic form for three minutes?
I'll admit, I didn't always know specifically why his giant form was temporary. Thank you for that. 👍
Time is running out!
It’s been so long since I’ve ever seen or heard of The Aquabats super show, such crazy memories
They're still going, they continued their show on their official youtube channel and even uploaded both seasons of the original show.
5:20 , the SSSS actually stands for "Special Signature to Save a Soul" within the show itself , also as a reference to the American adaptation of the original series, "Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad".
Fun Fact: The drummer of the Aquabats is Travis Barker, the drummer for Blink-182
I think everyone knows that
he also left loooong before the show and right after super rad I believe
The Baron Von Tito hasn't been part of the Aquabats! for a long time.
Their current drummer is Ricky Fitness.
I didn't know that!
He was in the band for like a hot second.
5:46 This just unlocked a memory.
5:20 Despite cool connections, Trigger deconfirmed it; it's Special Signature to Save a Soul in Gridman and Scarred Souls Shine Like Stars in Dynazenon
Also, is Street Hawk/Super Force a toku?
That’s just in-a justification for the reference.
I heard that WildBrain (formerly DHX Media, which bought out DiC) did not allow Tsuburaya to use the Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad name in the SSSS part of SSSS Gridman for some reason. Dunno if it's true, but I read that before.

Speaking of Captain Power i hope you got the complete series DVD set, cause its out of print now.
@@gridman2142 Oh, most certainly. Gotta preserve the memory!
@@gridman2142 is that also the one Marcos said it will not work with the toys? Even if watched on a CRT TV?
Never forget, tokusatsu is all around you. All it takes is faith, heart, and a big heaping helping of cheese.
I'm not sure if you've heard of this one but a few years ago Disney XD had a toku-ish show more in the vain of Pacific Rim called "Mech-X4"
Oh God I haven't heard that name in ages, mech-x4 was my jam!
Is that show available on Disney+ by any chance, I've wanted to watch it for a long time
OOOOOOOOOOOOOO Mech-X4 was my jam!

finally, someone else likes The Aquabats! Super Show!. i'm not alone!
The Bat Commander Also voiced Plex The Robot
thanks for including both Ultraman: Towards The Future & The Aquabats Super Show! Those two are two of my all time favorite shows! 🤟😎🤘
I remember watching Aquabats with my Dad, so I'm really happy to see it talked about on a tokusastu channel
Ryujin Mayuber is an Okinawan Tokusatsu with a green hero based on the Shisha and blue hero based on a dragon. I didn’t watch it, but I remember seeing some of it and getting a keychain when I lived in Okinawa.
I couldn’t wait for Power Morphicon lol
Neither could I.
Do you know where to find a Deathryuger cosplay suit? It’s for the next power morphicon, after this one.
Gave me something to watch on the last hour before work so, we thank you sir Marcos of Satsus
I'm glad you couldn't wait!
Haha wait, the moment aquabats were on the screen tripped me up because they just played at a local venue and my friends were posting about them, today was my first time hearing about them!
We definitely need more shows like Captain power. I would really like a VR Power Rangers TV show intertwined toy line. With special OCs included.
HELL YES!
Me when I get to 8:43 in the video:

@@deatherbradleywhy tho, by the sound of it, he enjoyed it.
Some more suggestions in the future:
Galador
Hanuman
Ultraman Tiga (4Kids Dub)
Masked Rider
VR Troopers
Big Bad Beetleborgs
I loved the aquabats when it was airing
The aquabats got me hooked on kamen rider back in 99
Super Force and Mantis have protagonists with powered armor. It could be noted for reference.
SUPERHUMAN SAMURAI 🎶!!
That’s a HUGE PART OF MY LIFE MY CHILDHOOD, DUDE!!!

Now you know!
And knowing is half the battle!

These videos rock. Please keep making them. Lots of shows that could definitely fit into this category.
How could you not mention that Gridman had freaking Tim Curry as the big bad's dub VA?
fun fact about ultraman powered, the lead is played by Cain Kosugi, AKA Ninja Black Jiraya!!! from kakuranger
Theres is one from the philippines that i remember as a kid and it was called super ranger kidz and it was release in 1997
11:07 Is there anywhere I can find this cover of Ultraman Powered's theme?
I would like to mention Armored Surus for the next Installment of this fantastic Series
When I was little, I never considered this a Tokusatsu, simply because I didn’t know what was considered Toku at the time.
I was not expecting bibleman but that’s neat
I loved the aquabats super show!
Kudos to Tsuburaya for turning Powered's shoves and pushes into energy palms

Superhuman samurai syber squad is Jake long mixed with tron
I still remembered getting traumatized by the Dada episode from Ultraman the ultimate hero when was 6, Dada was extremely terrifying for kid me.
Lego had a line called galidor that got a tv show to promote it that would emit white noise at a frequency that you couldnt hear, but could be picked up by a toy and play specific voice lines and stuff like that

2:54 How do you have a hole in the shape of a being that's supposed to be ascended of shapes? I feel sorry for whatever doctor would examine that lol.
I remember one episode of the aquabats, where the fast one fell in love with what was essentially a human false hydra’s emo sad girl head.
I LOVE THE AQUABATS!!!!!!
Sidenote, the actor who plays Jack in Samurai Super Squad plays Jack in Boy Meets World. Same character? Or coincidence? You be the judge of that.
How about the Fox Kids show, Los Luchadores? It has some Tokusatsu elements in it.
Japan really goes all out with iconic Tokusatsu than the west does, apparently.
Actually Powered had some production issues.
I remember seeing the aquabats when I was a kid
Imagine if Ultraman Powered had access to all the cgi power blast effects of modern Ultraman. We got a taste of that in the Absolute Conspiracy.
Some of the El Santo and Blue Demon movies are definitely toku-adjacent imo
All thanks to this it made me discover the Aquabats
Somehow the actor whom played Sam Collins in Samurai Cyber Squad, might also be the kid in Mrs. Doubtfire movie.
Can you do tokusatsu video games plz
Me and my boys grew up on The Aquabats Super Show. Not a single song from these guys that doesn't slap
The creator is a huge toku fan
