  • Hey buddy, back at again. Here is upgrading Acer Aspire 5733z with SSD, RAM and CPU.
In this video, I spent about 4 months to complete the process of upgrading. Why? I faced many challenges that almost made me to give up. But I was able to get through it. Some problems I encountered are LCD cable short circuit, faulty keyboard, wrong CPU causing BSOD and faulty Wifi card.
Nevertheless, I completed this task. When I gave back to the laptop's owner, he was happy.
    Song by order:
In the stories - Warptech (NCS)
    Runaway - Halcyon (NCS)
    Candyland - Tobu (NCS)
Our Dive - Weero & Mitte (NCS)
Far Away - Different Heaven (NCS)
Lost - The Eden Project (NCS)
Origin - Electric Joy Ride (NCS)
Alive - Itro & Kontinuum (NCS)
Update: I don't think part 2 for external GPU will be done because I changed my mind by not doing it.

Nice video here! I just upgraded and overhauled my Aspire 5733Z and would like to share my detailed findings to the viewers:
    1. On these laptops I'd highly recommend you remove the hinge screws from the bottom side ONLY after all other screws are removed (also under the keyboard) and lid is opened at 90 degrees, this is to minimise the stress on the bottom chassis hinge mounts which themselves are weak even when new
    2. To not mislead viewers, I think it's helpful to add that 8GB (2x 4GB) RAM is ONLY possible when using 4GB sticks of low density, 16-chip format, 8 on each side. If you use high density 8-chip SODIMM you get a BSOD as soon as Windows loads! Moreover don't forget to mention the 4 small battery bay screws you removed outside of the filming, bad things can happen when you rip palmrest off without those screws removed!
    3. As for upgrades, 8GB RAM is the max supported and I got mine working with i5-580M from a dead Aspire 5742G (discrete), i7 dual core may work too but NO QUADs will work! i5-580M already runs quite hot as it is though
    4. It's best to also take care of the hinges on this laptop. Tighten the hinge screws and put a few drops of lubricant on top of the hinge mechanism and then tighten the hinge screws on both sides, as well as the 2 silver LCD bezel screws. There are more screws under the LCD bezel but opening the LCD bezel on this laptop requires one specific way to unclip to not break clips and it's not easy.
Finally P.S. this is actually a cut down version of the Acer Aspire 5742, mostly sold with Pentiums and occasionally with i3's, stripped of: HDMI port, 3G and bluetooth option, status LEDs by the power button, 1 wifi antenna, hinge screw post metal brackets, and the mirroring Acer logo replaced with a plastic badge, but has stereo speakers whereas all 5742's only have mono (even my high end one with Geforce 610M graphics!).

Hi, that's very interesting. Thanks for sharing. I actually upgraded someone's laptop that was requested. At least your tips would be helpful. One thing, I did not mention was the webcam is broken, but next part I will do. God bless.
As you know, since I sold my Dell Inspiron 5379 which I got from 2018, I bought the Dell Inspiron 5555 which has broken screen. I will restore, and upgrade and use as my own.

@@almostnewway You mean webcam wire has disintegrated near the hinge? If you need to open the LCD bezel, after removing the 2 screws, PLEASE, slide the bezel clips loose ONLY by pushing it open from the side and not pure prying! I.e. for left side bezel you push it to the right gently and then slide your nails inside the gap to unclip it. This applies for ALL older Acer laptops!
If you do it wrong you are almost guaranteed to break off all clips and you have to hot glue it back on...

One issue I can think of with this would be either you stretched the charging port too much and break the solder joints behind the jack (common fault for this laptop) or that you could've actually plugged the charging port connector backwards... Try disassembling and reassembling the laptop again

I have the same laptop. Could you tell me how much it cost to install 2 new ram with 4gb memory each and a new ssd with a memory of 128gb or 256gb ?
    Thank you!

      Hi there,
The 4GB RAM I bought from Amazon, cost about NZ$24. But other 4GB RAM, it was an used item. And for EMTEC SSD 480GB from Amazon cost NZ$68 (price from 2021). Last, the Intel i3 380M I bought from AliExpress, I forgot but I will check.

@@almostnewway Actually scratch what I said about the i5-580M. With max all core turbo at 3.1Ghz this thing outputs way too much heat for the heatsink to handle! I tried with the heatsink on both of my 5733 and what happens is once the temps go past 75 it doesn't transfer heat very well and instantly shoots to 95-100C and may shut down at any second!

    • @almostnewway

@@kztech1319 this is bad. How complicated. But did you put thermal paste on it? If this happened, should you buy a new heatsink? Or change another processor?
I heard about Metal Liquid that can do better than other thermal paste (learn from Linus Tech Tips), have you tried it before?
